Why are there not literally hundreds of reaction videos to this stunning trilogy?? It is like a warm blanket of love and hope, one of the greatest trilogies ever made.

Richard Linklater loves making movies that just focus on conversations. His first film 'Slacker' was literally about people meeting around Austin, Texas...person A meets person B, person B moves on meets Person C, and so on. His second film was 'Dazed And Confused' which took place on the last day of school in 1976, and the incoming high school freshmen and the brand new high school seniors...that's all. He gets into being the objective eye and just letting the characters breathe and connect...and we go along for the ride. Sometimes he makes normal scripted films...but these films, 'Dazed and Confused', 'Slacker', his film 'Boyhood' filmed once a year over 12 years...these are the films of Linklater's I really love. The one I really want to see is going to be years in the making...he is filming an adaptation of a Broadway musical by Stephen Sondheim called 'Merrily We Roll Along' that will star Ben Platt (Tony winner for 'Dear Evan Hanson'), Blake Jenner, and Beanie Feldstein to be released in 2040. The story is about three friends, tracing their lives from high school graduation over the next 20 years...but told in reverse chronology. They have already filmed the high school stuff, and in a couple of years, they'll film the next section. It was a flop on Broadway, but as it is Sondheim (West Side Story, Sweeney Todd, Gypsy, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum) it has become a cult musical revived every couple of years. As I am almost 50, I hope I'll live long enough to see it come out.

It's one of my favorite movies of all time. I remember walking the streets of Vienna when I was in my twenties wishing I had someone to share it with. Linklater, Hawk, and Delpy have all talked about the process they went through to get the screenplay on film. It took a lot of smoothing and reworking to make the script sound so natural. I agree, the chemistry between Hawk and Delpy is palpable. Yes, they are in the sequels, as well.

Such a beautiful film! You’ll return to it over and over again. Now you have to do the sequels. Same director and same actors. Same brilliance!

I love this trilogy. I saw the first film when it first came out back in the mid 90s. I saw the second one when it came out 9 years later, and the third one 9 years later again. So the characters/actors age very realistically of course. All 3 (the main actors and Richard Linklater) worked together on the script for the second two films. I visited the same places they shot scenes in when I was in Vienna and Paris.

My favorite romantic movie/franchise! This was in that list I sent you Ash! The trilogy is a masterpiece and I'm really looking forward to you reaching "the car ride" scene from the second since it's my favorite scene in the franchise. This first one was loosely based off an actual experience of the director, Richard Linklater, as you mentioned. If I'm not mistaken he made the movie to reach out and find the woman he met only to find out years later she died before the movie was even released. Also another fun fact that I like is that initially Julie Delpy read the script and thought "wow, this is really boring. Can we get some writers to make some jokes or something?" To which Linklater replied "I've been in Vienna talking to you for the past week and I haven't been bored once. If you can be as interesting on camera as you are right now then we've got nothing to worry about" Great movies!

I love this movie! I saw it as a teenage boy for the first time and it shaped a lot of my understanding of romance. And you're right, it is so relatable, cause we've probably all talked through the night with somebody one time or another. And if the chemistry was right, you will never forget about that experience. Please keep on reacting to smaller, independant, maybe some european movies. Spontaneously I could recommend "Cinema Paradiso", beautifully romantic italian movie with an outstanding music score from the 80s, "My Afternoons with Margueritte" with Gérard Depardieu and a lovely old Lady or "Waking Ned", a beautiful irish comedy. Thank you for this reaction!!!

Incredible film, unlike any I'd seen before it. I was also shocked to learn that it was very precisely scripted. You might want to check out another film called Waking Life that Linklater made between this one and Before Sunset, because Jesse and Celine briefly appear in it and talk about dreams. And also because it's a cool, weird film.

In the beginning the guy talks german. He says (reading a headline from the newspaper): "There are 70.000 women addicted to alcohol." and then he adds (with a smirk) "You are on of them". The woman then replies "aah when someone is becoming addicted to alcohol then its you". They are both obviously in a long relationship together and banthering

What a wonderful reaction! I've grown up with this trilogy, being roughly the same age as the characters as the movies have been released. It's really interesting how my feelings are different for each one as I've grown older. Watching and rewatching them in your 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond is so worthwhile, you learn more about yourself as a person.

The character of Céline is based on a real life person that Richard Linklater met in his youth, they spent a day and had a real strong connection just like Jesse and Céline in the movie. You should definitely watch the sequels, Before Sunset and Before Midnight.

I think you might enjoy a somewhat similar movie called "Before We Go" (2014) Chris Evans, Alice Eve. i'm sure they had this one in mind when they wrote it. And here are a few more very fine romances if you are in the mood: It Happened One Night (1934) Clark Gable, Claudette Colbert In Name Only (1939) Cary Grant, Carole Lombard Waterloo Bridge (1940) Vivien Leigh, Robert Taylor Random Harvest (1942) Ronald Colman, Greer Garson I'll Be Seeing You (1944) Ginger Rogers, Joseph Cotten The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947) Gene Tierney, Rex Harrison Roman Holiday (1953) Audrey Hepburn, Gregory Peck The Naked Jungle (1954) Eleanor Parker, Charlton Heston The World of Suzie Wong (1960) Nancy Kwan, William Holden The Cutting Edge (1992) Moira Kelly, D. B. Sweeney That Thing You Do (1996) 2007 director's cut, Tom Hanks, Liv Tyler

Hope your audience liked it, because you'll probably end up doing the rest of the trilogy. :) Btw, Linklater did this with Hawke AGAIN in one movie that took 12 years to make called "Boyhood" in which Hawke plays a father. Anyway, I recommend the next two, and my favorite of the three is #2. Probably the greatest love story ever filmed.

@@lalalarose8197 Yes. Linklater also directed a totally different movie, not directly related to "Before" trilogy, called "Boyhood". Took years to make, also starred Hawke.

Adam Goldberg?! I’m obsessed with these films and never caught on it was him. There’s a Delpy & Goldberg film 2 Days in Paris filmed early 2000s. It’s also about a couple except they’ve been dating for a bit and are at that, will we stay committed or is it time to call it moment.

The funny thing is that I highly recommend this movie (and the rest of the "before" series of films) to a lot of people because the concept is so beautiful, but I can't stand the movie myself because I find Julie Delpy insufferable. I'm able to put aside my subjectivity and admit that the movie is good even if I don't like it.
