So ive already dealt with this problem once, and im glad i found this video now that im having this issue again, i know exactly who to blame and conplain to for the cost of repairing it a second time since they are the only business i have gone to for oul changes with my mk6 Golf R. I even mentioned it to them after i got it repaired the first time and said for them to take it easy when they tighten up the oil filter housing, and they said that it would be impossible for them to havw caused it since their torque wrenches only go up to the recommended psi......that may be but whoever did the job obviously didnt follow guidelines or even care. So again, thank you for this information, i may be using this video as evidence that they are at fault as well. Not to mentioned that they lied to me and broke the same thing twice!

Yup, I just changed mine to a metal housing on my MK5. Hopefully it'll solve the problem long term. Also replaced thermostat, coolant temp sensors, timing belt, water pump, tensioner, PCV and purge valve all at the same time at 280K. Great car.

Oh yeah, not too terrible of a job at least. Only issues I’ve run into in the past is cheap aftermarket housings prematurely failing again

Noob question - What is that component (two pipes fastened to it) just below and next to the oil filter housing?
@EuropeanAutoRepair Жыл бұрын
Engine oil cooler, coolant runs through it and actually helps bring oil up to temp quicker and attempts to hold it at coolant temp

just replaced cooler, housing and gaskets. (not oem, but reputable brand) what a painful job!! And now it seems to leak a tiny bit!! the small torx bolt securing the charge pipe is getting oily like it's dripping from above. it's really difficult to see without removing everything again. not sure if it's assembly leaking again or I have another leak. I have torqued everything to spec. opinions?
@EuropeanAutoRepair Жыл бұрын
Hmm I can’t say without looking at it myself but I have had nothing but trouble personally with aftermarket oil filter housing on these engine, im not saying that’s what it is but I wouldn’t be surprised
@francoisloriot2674 Жыл бұрын
@@EuropeanAutoRepair ok thanks will keep an eye on it and will go with the VW part if needed. you think remove intake manifold would make for a faster or less painful job? I had taken out fan shroud and throttle body only, but some bolts were completely impossible to see.

Didnt know it was common but definitely have that leak going on, thanks for the video. Are you able to get to everything to remove it without removing the front clip?
@EuropeanAutoRepair Жыл бұрын
Yup, you shouldn’t have to remove bumper
@andrewredey Жыл бұрын
Seems like the intake manifold needs to come off though, or are you able to sneak around it?
@EuropeanAutoRepair Жыл бұрын
@andrewredey yes I sneak around it without too much trouble, if I was not working on a hoist I would probably remove intake manifold

From the drivers seat they are really fantastic but they can have problems like all the other vw from this time period. Make sure you get a pre purchase inspection with a full scan,

I thought the "25+5" meant 25nm + 5°? I didn't think it was 25nm +/- 5nm. That might very well be why I believe mine is leaking even after replacing the gaskets. Hopefully its not the plastic housing thats warped and not seating flush
@EuropeanAutoRepair Жыл бұрын
If you torqued it to 25nm and a additional 5 degrees I don’t think you would be much off, more likely the housing needs to be replaced if I had to guess
@Mosstachio Жыл бұрын
@@EuropeanAutoRepair do you know if the housing can be sanded or machined back to true, or is it a replacement if it's warped?
@EuropeanAutoRepair Жыл бұрын
@Mosstachio usually a replacement is the way to go

i want to ask, which more relievable to buy mk 6 r or mk 7 gti?
@EuropeanAutoRepair Жыл бұрын
It’s kind of hard to say being that you don’t see as many high mileage mk7s around yet but so far they seem like they might be holding up a little better, unless you are referring to the 5cyl mk6 golf, that would be the winner in my head
@daussofian3335 Жыл бұрын
thanks mate, maybe gti mk7 much better. because the new tech and car looks more modern. i want to buy one after this few months. thank you for your time 👌👍

Why just have screw on replaceable oil filters when you can complicate things with extra parts...Thanks VW engineers.
