The specific responsibilities of a Livestream Technical Producer may vary depending on the size and complexity of the event, as well as the type of platform being used to deliver the stream. However, a speaker or host should review some common preparation tips before the live event.
A livestream technical producer should also be able to work well under pressure, as live-streaming events often require quick decision-making and problem-solving in real-time. In order to be successful, a Livestream Technical Producer should have a strong understanding of streaming technology and the various platforms and tools that are commonly used to deliver live streams.
As a virtual speaker or host, you can assist the livestream technical producer by reviewing these preparation tips prior to going live.
Even if you were able to attend a tech check with our producer, please make sure you arrive early so we can review your audio/video and connectivity in the studio for the event.
Virtual Studio:
1) Click the provided studio link above (or in your calendar invite) and you will be taken to the studio.
2) Allow access to your camera and mic if you haven't already done so.
3) Make sure you have the correct camera and mic selected.
4) Enter your display name and title. We will confirm your display name during check-in and before we are live.
5) The producer will be informed that you’ve arrived. The producer will add you to the "stage" to check your audio and review any additional show notes before going live.
6) Please join the studio in the location that you plan to go live with.
General Reminders:
1) You may use private chat to communicate with the production team and other guests.
2) Make sure you have the latest version of your website browser and that you are current on all updates.
3) Headphones or earbuds are STRONGLY recommended to reduce audio echoes during the panel portion of the event. NO AIRPODS unless you are able to select a different source for your microphone as airpods delay your sound via the bluetooth connectivity.
Location and Set-Up:
1) When selecting a location to stay in, be mindful of what can be seen in the background. We prefer a natural background vs. a green screen/virtual cam. Avoid having a window behind unless you can cover it with curtains or blinds. The light source will cause balancing issues with your camera.
2) Having a strong internet connection is key. If you are able to run a hard line (ethernet cable) to your router that is ideal, otherwise, try to be as close to your router as possible.
3) Make sure your device is plugged in or fully charged.
4) Lighting is important. Try to have a light source, like a desk lamp, directly in front of your device to illuminate your face.
5) The camera should be positioned just above eye level. Often times you can stack your device on books or household items to get the ideal height. The producer will instruct you to move your camera if it is not centered.
7) Sound is also important - We always recommend that people wear headphones to reduce echo if they are joining a panel discussion with multiple speakers. Some people opt to use an external mic that they plug into their device, but that usually isn't necessary. We will check that you have the correct mic and speaker selected in StreamYard during your check.
8) Camera shot set up: You want to be in the center of the screen with only a small amount of space above your head. We will test this during your tech-check.
9) Grab a glass of water or anything that you may need during the event.
10) Please put your phone and computer on DO NOT DISTURB or mute all notifications so that this does not disturb the flow of the event.
