@@RippingItAllSportsCards Better than someone trying & being the best for 27 weeks than someone who can only be the best for 4/36. In this format, you can win a race, be top 15 in the ro16 & then win 2/6 weeks to compete for a championship. You only have to try to be the best for 4 out of 36 weeks. Even with this, the champ has to try for at the minimum 27/36 weeks
@THEDonnyB11 күн бұрын
@@RippingItAllSportsCards I mean. Joey barely had to get into the playoffs, do well enough in the first two rounds, get eliminated, then get out back in, win in the first race of round 3 to lock himself in, and win the final race. Hell, explain to me why the last place full time driver got in? If you win or finish top four in point during the regular season then you SHOULD get a leg up, regardless of if you win. We have a system where a guy can finish second in every single race of the regular season but if 16 other guys win in the regular season he's screwed, and there's no justifying that happening. We all thought Jimmie Johnson broke the Chase format by doing just enough to get in and treat the first 26 as testing sessions, then popping off in the Chase. But Logano has bent the playoffs over his knee and spanked it until it called him daddy. He rolls around in the regular season, going for one or two wins. Then he gets in, does just enough to get to the third round, where he wins the first race and locks himself in and then brings his best car to the championship race. And now you don't have to be top 30 in points to get - and why was it top 30? Why not top 20, which would be a little more legitimate?

In my view, I think Indycar and/or F1 will implement the playoffs in their series within the next decade if not sooner. Indycar as of late has been trying to be the NASCAR of open wheel racing to the point in which they are implementing the charter system next season. As for F1, they are so hellbent on making F1 one of the most popular sports in this country (at least beating out NASCAR as the most popular motorsport) that they will do absolutely anything to make F1 like the "Big 4" sports leagues including adding playoffs. If the playoffs are implemented in F1, it will come at the expense of the prestige of the F1 World title. The same goes for Indycar as well as their already devalued championship (due to Indycar inflating the value of the Indy 500) will lose further prestige & importance.

Playoffs still suck. Harvick exposed it in 2020 and this is nail in the coffin right here. The 2 biggest problems with this format is the win and your in part and the last race of the season coming down to 1 race for the championship. I actually don’t have a problem with the way the points themselves are awarded with the top 10 at the end of the first 2 stages having points from 10-1 on a descending scale and the end of the race 40 for the winner and from 2nd on back 35 and so on. But we need to do away with win and your in. A 10 race chase like the 2004 original concept would be far better than what we currently have. I’m an old school fan. I don’t have a problem with the champion going in to the last race only needing to finish 15th or better to win the championship. He earned it! I want to award the driver who was best over the course of a whole season not just for a few races.

On your second point, I highly doubt that NASCAR is going to get rid of the Playoffs or even change the format for 2 main reasons: 1. Steve O'Donnell's son is also a Joey Logano fan, and the executives have their own favoritism towards Logano, so it wouldn't matter if his average finish was 43rd; they want Logano to win the championship. They definitely wanted him to win it this year. (I don't really hate Logano; just pointing that out.) 2. NASCAR is very stubborn and proud about this. It doesn't matter if this format drives them into bankruptcy; (and it probably would if the teams were profiting like they should be) they have made their commitment to entertainment over legitimacy.

Onto Vegas for the next race in the F1 season. I'll always be a NASCAR fan, but I might seriously be a bigger F1 fan sooner than later. I’d rather watch Verstappen win 10 world championships in a row the traditional way, than watch a different Mickey Mouse champion crowned every year in NASCAR. They have to wonder why they’re the only Motorsport that has this gimmicky point system.

Interesting. I've been posting on Twitter about what I think was a more viable option: Keep the 16 drivers, but NO "win and In". Drivers must POINT their way in. When playoffs begin, the same elimination, but by adding BONUS points in addition to the regular points. 10 extra bonus for each stage win (then 8-6-4-2 for top 5) 25 bonus for most laps led 60 extra bonus points for winning. Then every next round except final 4, the bonus extra points increment by 10. I think that's the way forward and drama still is there and the ones who earn it will win it.

A points system that theoretically makes it possible for a driver to win every one of the first 26 races and win every stage in every one of those races and due to pure luck wouldn't even have a shot at winning the season championship is exactly what SHAMCAR fans deserve. 2016-SHAMCAR screwed Edwards. That was the last SHAMCAR race I watched.

Knowing that nascar won’t get rid of the playoffs I’ve thought maybe a format similar to the chase system in later years where in the 26 race regular season, the top 10 in points are in, followed by the next six being based off wins/points. Then there’s a one race wildcard where two of the bottom six advance to the round of twelve. Then the rounds play out with three races per round. It kinda feels like a good mix of everything to me and eliminates the 1 race championship. Although I guess wins don’t matter as much but you can consider that as the representation of the Winston format

*warning this a long reply so feel free to just scroll over it and speed read it but this is just my take on the whole thing and this comes from someone who even after 25 years of watching still actively watches it and gets as excited as a child every Sunday. See man 23:25 it's ideas like this that will bring the eyes back to NASCAR and bring back that popularity it had when Junebug was racing for DEI in the 2k's. Do you guys remember how Popular Junebug was with DEI? I mean that's the kind of excitement I miss in racing these days. Fans used to talk about the shit up until the next race weekend and just over time I've seen it disappear and dwindle. Now granted most of "Our" childhood drivers have retired and been inducted into the hall of fame (i.e my 2 Hendrick boys Jeff and Jimmie) and most recently the now-retired Kevin Harvick I just feel like fans today aren't as attached or as tuned into the sport as they were say 20 plus years ago and I know most of it has to do with the France Family and Steven Phelps and the god awful moves they've made since the passing of Dale Sr and the hiring of Steve Phelps. IDK if it's because NASCAR isn't as active on socials or it's because they control what the drivers can say and share which leads to some of the stories we got this year. I mean the Gen 7 car no offense is by far the worst piece of (excuse my language) shit I've ever seen these guys drive. It's as bad as the COT car and you guys know how fuckin bad the COT cars were but we found a way to like and respect those. But these cars these (excuse my language again) bullshit ass kit cars they got these kids using today are a complete joke just like the France family. That might be a controversial or hot take but it's my opinion we don't have to agree. You might see it a different way but this is the way I've watched it happen the last 25 years I've been watching it. The playoff system is shit, the charter system is shit, the cars are shit and the drivers are Vocally unhappy about it but NASCAR just doesn't seem to care unless it affects the bottom dollar for them. They can't even understand what the most simple basic ass fan wants these days which is the shit we saw in the 2k's. This pack racing shit...we didn't ask for this shit. We didn't have a problem seeing one guy have a rocket car and pull the field at Daytona. We thought that shit was cool. It only got annoying for us when it led to a chip (Mr. Jimmie Johnson 😂 yeah I'm looking at you bro😂) This shit most of us now "Old Heads" use to watch is the shit we want back. And hell Radman's idea here isn't that damn bad either. I'd be in favor of awarding 10 points to the winning driver of a playoff race. Also having it set up the way he did would just make so much more sense for NASCAR logically and financially for them while at the same time bringing back that popularity and viewership that has been on the decline for nearly 2 decades. Just my take. Sorry, it was so long I'll leave a warning at the top of this message in case you guys don't want to read my opinion on it. Again this is my opinion on it so feel free to disagree but don't be ugly in the comments towards me.

I think as close as the competition is nowadays that a season long points championship would be more entertaining. There could be scenarios where the championship is locked up in the 35th race, but it's better to decide a championship in 35 races rather than one. It could even make the stages in the final race meaningful to decide the champion. There could also be years where 5 or 6 guys had a shot of winning. The last few races before the playoffs are nore entertaining, and that could literally be the last few races of the season instead

@12:10 Joey Logano likely wouldn't even be in the playoffs if Austin Cindric hadn't spun by himself with two to go at Nashville. Logano was running 14th when the caution came out and restarted the first OT in 23rd.

At this day and age, with the Nascar Cup being this close and with the gaps being so minimal with having +10 different winners per season, Nascar can return to a Season long Championship where consistency is key. I saw it somewhere on Twitter, after yesterday, Bell was the champion over Larson by only 5 points if we used the Winston Cup Points System. Only 5. Even if a different format is implemented, we don’t really need it anymore.

If you don’t like the result or don’t like the playoff format and want major change, apathy is the best solution. Anger implies you still care enough and engagement is what they want. Hit the France’s and Nascar where it hurts and don’t watch anymore Nascar until change is made.

Didn't watch it, no regrets. Also your suggestion? You pretty much prevent similar occurance like Tony Stewart's championship run in 2011. No wins in the 1st 26 races, advanced because he was top 10 in the standings, then turns on the jets in the final 10 races, winning half of it, and beating Edwards in a points tiebreaker.

I never really call NASCAR out on social media like so many do, but NASCAR really needs to look at itself right now. I mean, what the hell are they even doing? It feels a lot like last year tbh. I wanted to be happy for Blaney last year, but I couldn't. He grew up wanting to be the best driver in NASCAR and rewarded for that, but ended up with a goofy championship because he happened to be good at Phoenix.

Logano won the Championship under the rules that stand NOW. Fair enough. The only reason he even advanced to the round of 8 was Bowman's DQ at the Charlotte Roval for his car being underweight (still haven't figured that one out. It had to make weight to start the race, so where did the missing weight go?). Should he have been in the Championship 4? Given his position at the end of the "regular" season, I'd say no, although under the current rules his Las Vegas win locked him into the Championship 4. I"ve been a NASCAR fan since the early 80's, and I must admit I do NOT like the current playoff format (nor did I like any of the other playoff formats). I think NASCAR needs to do two things: 1) get rid of stage cautions. Award stage points if you want to, but get rid of the caution. 2) eliminate the playoff format EXCEPT for having the top 4 drivers go at it in the final race of the year - best finisher wins the season championship (which is what happens anyway - BUT the announcers will be able to concentrate on that when they're talking). That way, the drivers and teams that have performed best OVER THE ENTIRE SEASON go for the Championship, not the drivers and teams that got hot at the right time...... Oh yeah, one more thing - there are FAR too many commercials on NASCAR TV broadcasts!!! Not everyone can - or wants to - pay insanely high fees for streaming......
