It’s the most cursed, most bonkers, and overall the most relatable Avatar episode. Stress and anxiety are a hellish combo. Aang has both especially bad because he’s literally carrying the fate of the world on his shoulders. That’s a lot of pressure on a 12 year old kid.

Fun fact this episode is packed with pop culture references in his dreams Aang is dressed in reference to Son Goku from Dragon Ball in the first dream and Vash the Stampede from Trigun in the second dream Aang also uses a running style similar to the Naruto run (Aang also dressed like Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Beabop in the Avatar Comic imbalance) in the final dream Aang is dressed sort of like Elrond of Rivendell from Lord of the Rings but with Ozai's hair style speaking of Ozai in the first two dreams his appearance is meant to reference Bowser from the Mario Series Appa and Momo's hallucination fight is jam packed with references from anime, video games, and movies such as the anime Samurai Champloo, and there are influences from Cowboy Bebop and FLCL the duel itself is also suppose to reference Obi Wan Kenobi vs General Grievous Momo's design in the sequence is similar to Toshiro Mifune's character Kikuchiyo in Seven Samurai, right down to his facial fur being noticeably shaggier, emulating Mifune's trademark three-day-growth beard stubble Momo's katana positions and kimono design look similar to Jinno from Afro Samurai and Momo is dressed like the comic book character Miyamoto Usagi from Samurai Rabbit the Usagi Chronicles the voices Dee Bradley Baker uses for Momo and Appa in this episode are similar to the voices he uses for Spidermonkey and Cannonbolt from Ben 10: Alien Force basically since Aang's side of the episode is not being able to sleep due to stress they homage to several movies such as The Lord of the Rings, The Ring, The Grudge, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and several other fantasy and dream-related movies.

I feel like the animators must have had so much fun with this episode. 1:43 he does know what Ozai looks like. In "The Headband" he got a picture of him and made a picture out of noodles, in fact his training dummy of Ozai used that noodle picture. All the animal noises are done by a guy named Dee Bradley Baker and he does a couple of background characters as well. He also did Appa and Momo talking.

My first exposure to this series was me channel surfing, whoops, cartoon, let stop and watch -- it was this episode -- imagine seeing this out of context, I didn't know what to think. It was a few years later, a friend with the box set of the series on DVD showed me the series in its entirety and I was in love, to the point I bought the set from him, and later, after complaining I could not find its sequel series, Legend of Korra, a relative bought the box set of that series for me for Christmas that year.

I think if there is one thing to be learned from the debut of the Fifteenth Doctor, it's that you don't need to be wearing pants to defeat the bad guy. I don't get nightmares very often but they've gone from as a kid dreaming of me and my loved ones being forced to jump of a high platform to our deaths or a giant orange is destroying the city, and now they're mostly I forgot to hand in my last assignment or do the final so I just failed this class. Mostly I just get anxious about oversleeping so instead of nightmares my body just wakes up once every hour until it's actually time to wake up. Closest I've had to the childhood nightmares now are just the couple times I was half asleep and I had some minor thing I had to do or the world would end.

I didn't find it suprising that the concept of theapy exisits in this world. The concept becomes normal in some civilizations faster than others but the concept is probably almost as old as civilization it has always been a idea that when you are frustrated a good way to get it out is by talking to someone about your problems. Listening to problems professionally may take time to catch on for some but I image there have always been some version of therapy to some degree. It makes sense that we would not have seen therapy in places that are really isolated or in the middle of chaos where people don't have time to focus on anything but survial but I figure the more populated areas of the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation have had it for a long time. We actually see some bad examples of how people in this world do have a thourough knowledge of psychology like how Long Fang brainwashed people back in Ba Sing Se. But please don't get the wrong idea almost anything can be used for good or evil. I don't want to discorage anyone from giving legitimate theapy a chance when they have a hard time. Some have a stigma about getting help and are embarressed even though it is private but don't be influenced by people into not giving something a chance. Sometimes thearapy can help overcome things that you may not be able to handle on your own and even if you can handle something thearpy can usually make it easier than doing it alone. I am not a therapist doing a sales pitch but when I spoke about a bad use for psycology in this fictional show I didn't want to be negative towards a concept that people should legitamitly give a chance.
