They didn't destroy the timeline nor reversed it but a clone of saitama separated and that's the one that went back in time, while there's still the original saitama somewhere in the multiverse. Evil saitama theory was not so far fetched when there's an original saitama somewhere in the multiverse, and this version of saitama lost his home and went to go fishing for his items alone because he let everyone including king which probably his friend die because he was late, and his last anchor to his humanity was killed and the very first genuine emotion he felt was malice for someone.
