I think I'm most excited by organic technologies. The cheapest and most sustainable chemistry solutions, if they can get to similar efficiencies as the mono- and poly-crystalline technologies, will win in the end. Flexible and transparent technologies are also interesting because they offer designers some cool possibilities.

Thin-film solar panels are more expensive than monocrystalline silicon
@nielsf
@nielsf 4 жыл бұрын
@@jiangsolar1497 Price is determined on cost of basic materials and how much mass production a product has. The main reason the current solar panels are becoming cheaper is because we are getting better and faster at producing them. So the most expensive panel is most of the time the one that has NO mass production line yet, or the newer one. Therefore comparing the price is not a good thing unless you take the price that the very first solarpanel of type "a" costed and then compare that with how much the first panel of type "b" costs.

Hi. Great info. Especially for a people not in the loop like me & so many others out there. I’ll be on the market in early fall or later for about 6 solar panel to install on my RV’s roof. My exact dimensions / configuration available can be somewhat flexible since I haven’t ordered my unit yet. Thinking thin frameless panels that I can double sided tape them to the roof. Thus having 1/3 of the wt vs hard framed ones. So which options you would suggest to me ? I live in Delta, BC, canada. Much appreciate your input. Cheers..... Yvon.

Thanks for explaining how efficiency is pretty useless in judging panels. Wish you had said that up front. To be clear a 300w 18% panel produces the same amount of power as a 300w panel with a 30% efficiency. The efficiency is in terms of size not power.

David not in Florida. I sold at least 80 jobs last year and only once could I not get enough average efficiency panels on the roof. In a few occasions clients chose more efficient panels so they could get the correct system size and not have to place panels on the front of the house. Sure in California it might be a bigger deal but efficiency is often way down on the list. Temperature coefficient is more important here at least.

Where i live there's a lot of houses under trees and yards tend to be shaded, and then its overcast and rainy very often, sometimes for a whole month. What I should have said was "just because efficiency isn't important in some instances, doesn't mean its not important.

Umm a solar panel company in Australia called Tindo have a 27% efficiency rating and they arent there... Also the CSIRO have been working on a panel that is pumping out 45% efficiency and is easily made. However, its interesting that this efficiency is based on how much power it has not produced compared to the coal made power it took to make the solar panels to begin with.. So if the most efficient power is Hydro power, then why arent we using more of it? why arent we using tidal power, there's heaps of it? Tidal power is simple and tapping into the gulf stream, and world currents, would be like a continuous energy.

Efficiency is a very wide scoping word, there is efficiency in surface area,/ Watt efficiency in weight / Watt , efficiency in production time or material input or how about the length of time the panel will last while still holding a reasonable output, the most efficient depends on your your desired application, . For most people efficiency is Watts / $$ input. I presume when you say efficient that you are talking about area per Watt output which for most people is not a real consideration.

Too bad Alta Devices is now a closed company. They shut operations in October 2019. Great technology, bad parent company.

30% efficiency - if I have 1000W/m2 solar radiation, does it mean, that the 1m2 solar panel will produce around 333W?

@@zenseidk9011 And that's only if you have at least that amount of insolation (sunshine in crude terms) at your geographic location, and the panel is optimally aligned to the sun with no shading, and isn't overheating, and has the correct load attached, then you might.

this ranking is non-sense if you don't take the environment (temperature, behavior in half-shadow, angle to sun, etc.) in account... :(

Awesome ! I always tough that the max efficiency pannel "we" could produce would be at 32%. Do you think one day most sollar panel will be at 50% ?
