Having a TBI and not taking his proper seizure meds could make him flip out like this. The key words being 'seizure meds' because without those a TBI sufferer/survivor could have that one seizure that either puts them in hospital or lands them in a ditch somewhere.

He has a TBI but would potentially be fine if he were taking the correct seizure meds, which I suspect he refuses to take because they make him tired or the government told him to, or whatever excuse he has. TBI is so complex and layered and this guy clearly suffered a bad one. A person will essentially be trying to heal from a TBI the rest of their lives because the brain is constantly changing in humans. So he doesn't have a mental illness....he has the residual symptoms of a serious injury. The 2 are so very, very different.

This is a perfect example of why there are times when it would be in a person's best interest to have their rights to make their own decisions to be temporarily suspended to get them some help for their own good. I hate to talk about taking away a person's rights, but at some point it is in the best interest of everyone to force help on those that would otherwise refuse it.

I most definitely agree. Unfortunately we cannot force someone to accept help. Even if accepted or forced, that help often is inadequate and still leaves everyone exposed to people like this. What more can we do? People are not isolated from society in asylums anymore. There is no putting them aside and ignoring them anymore. They live free and have the right to heard, and cause more problems.

Not an option, this is a civil infraction. Because the judge cannot order a remand, they cannot force MH evaluations on this poor man. I feel bad for him, but he is a severe risk in society, especially on the road. To protect rights, the law is very clear that you must show an imminent threat to someone or other before you can force them into an institution unless they are in custody or can be remanded into it.
