This interrogation had me getting frustrated with the young man until I realized the awful twist. It was a learning tool for me to not judge out of ignorance.
@Gravy652 жыл бұрын
I watched some criminal psychology videos that had break downs of their interrogations. I forget what the channel was, but it was really interesting to see the break down of how the person was (most likely) thinking, and how the cops would deal with it, and eventually break the person. The leaving them alone in a room is all part of watching their behavior. My immediate thought (based only on my youtube diploma) was his face injury had actually damaged his brain...because in all the ones I had watched, the people who were trying for the insanity, but really aren't, would break their act at some point. He didn't. I get why the cops assume he did it...but it's really wrong and sad they didn't have someone just go check his injuries while he sat there.

Wasn't it days later when they found him? What are the chances that the extra 8 hours at the end make a huge difference? It seems like it's the time before he was found that really made the difference, not that it excuse a thing. Parents should has sued for punitive damages and for a change in training for the PD. So sad. RIP Ryan.
@timothybyrom55602 жыл бұрын
@@justinkase1360 If I remember correctly, three days. He was hanging around with her dead body. Yes eight hours could have done him a lot of good. Kind of a cold hearted reaction to the situation. If it was one of your loved ones wouldn't you want help as quick as possible?
@LM-hb6yn2 жыл бұрын
@@justinkase1360 Doesn't matter. Police have the obligation to seek medical treatment for any injury. They also have a professional and a Constitutional obligation to treat suspects as innocent until proven guilty. Furthermore they have an obligation to conduct an unbiased, thorough investigation to uncover all the evidence and facts, rather than decide first who is guilty and then set about to prove it. This latter is actually illegal for police to do in England. They discovered that many false convictions occurred because police believed from the start that someone was guilty and set about to prove it, rather than investigating and following all the evidence. So they made it illegal to do what police commonly do here. In that respect they are so far ahead of us. They also made illegal the interrogation methods police commonly utilize here when they learned that many false confessions occurred due to those tactics. I was amazed to discover a country that was actually reforming law enforcement with good results. It did not impede the police getting confessions in the least, though they obviously had been against these laws believing it would prevent them from obtaining confessions. They were surprised to learn that they got more confessions than before by treating people with dignity and respect, if memory serves me correctly. I do wish we would learn from them here.

First thing I thought when they said he opened the door and just stood there was that if he did this, maybe he was on something. Which had me thinking “Why didn’t they cuff him and call for an ambulance?” Even if he committed the crime, if he is on something the first thing they have to do is get him medical attention. If they had, then the bullet holes would have been discovered sooner. However, I don’t see how they can say all of his brain damage occurred after the police took him into custody. The guy walked around for two days like that before they even got there. But this is one of the most astounding stories I have ever heard. 😲

Thank you. All these comments on the police and no one said 2 days. He was already damaged by then. They didn't check him out because he was alive for days while she laid dead.
@R1L6N2 жыл бұрын
Those 2 days were just him alone by himself having no memory of what occurred a couple days ago. I think the reason why those 8 or so hours when the authorities found and held him were crucial and was being pointed out is because that is the only time where he could've gotten the medical intervention that he, unknowingly needed desperately. And i believe its within their protocol to let anyone get medical assistance if they obviously needed it regardless if they believe that person committed the crime.

We need to follow England's example. They examined the causes of all the false convictions that have been proven and passed laws to address those root causes. One such law was that police could not decide who was guilty first and then set about to prove it. They must uncover all the facts and follow all the evidence before deciding someone's guilt. Sadly many false convictions are due to tunnel vision and ignoring evidence that doesn't line up with what they think happened and whom they think is guilty. We need to follow England's lead and make it illegal for police to base their investigation on who they think is guilty. They must be required to follow all the evidence and not let their biases or first impressions influence or direct the investigation.

Oh my God Ryan, I'm in tears with heartache. What a hearbreaking story. As a society, we tend to jump into conclusions too quickly these days. We don't take enough time to study things, analyze before summation. Poor baby, with all that's going on in his brain, he couldn't properly express what he was going through. He was re-victimized by the police. God!!! And why did they do his feet and not his hands? If he shot her wouldn't he use his hands to pull the trigger?The family should have sued the police for neglet. If he had died, they probably would've said it was murder suicide. They were detectives, they were supposed to detect the holes on his face. Thank God you lived long enough to tell them what happened. Rest in peace my brave warrior💘💔

You'll be in even more heartbreak when I tell you that the police lied and there were no 2 magical days where he wandered around and I can easily prove it. I can prove it happened in the same night. Remember they took a mugshot when they took Ryan in...that was a few hours before the interrogation. Go look at that photo and then look at the interrogation video. And then square that with the narrative that he wandered around like some moron for 2 days. The mark on his head is impossible in that narrative, but it is possible in the hours that he was in police custody. No...the police was fucking incompetent and everyone deserved to get fucking fired.

My attitude about the police has changed alot over the years. I never saw a cop with a gun until I came to America around 1970-71 when I was barely a teenager. (We're from Ayrshire, Scotland originally). Don't like and absolutely do not trust police on either side of "the pond". This is just one of many stories where police in America make gross errors in judgement and even murder innocent civilians without accountability. Even if the police do "suspect" someone of committing a crime, under the U.S. Constitution there is supposed to be a presumption of innocence. And it's the proverbial "innocent bystander", whom they are 'supposedly' sworn to at the very least protect, if not serve, that ends up paying the price for their behaviour.

My friend had a tenant in the basement suite who was playing hockey and suffered a concussion. The next day while trying to get inside his home he collapsed and managed to yell for long enough my friend heard him. She called 911, unfortunately the police showed up before Fire or Ambulance, and they were prodding him with their feet presuming he was drunk or high, despite her telling them he had been concussed really badly and was not a drinker or drug user. They refused to act with any compassion or concern for him, just barked orders at him even after paramedics showed up. I know police officers see the nastiest side of people often, but the whole culture is toxic now.

Your reaction was the same as mine when I first saw it on Mr. Ballen's channel. I seriously had all 5 steps of the grieving process in a matter of minutes after the video ended. And it made me feel physically sick. Although law enforcement almost always has my full support...it truly WAS neglectful on their behalf, that they so hardcore pre-judged the situation. And too...I thought it was standard practice to have even "obvious" perpetrators medically examined before being taken in if they have injuries. I may be wrong, but that has been my belief. This whole thing was horribly senseless and horrificly sad...all because some punk couldnt handle not getting his way even though he was the one in the wrong to begin with. Now he's not going to get his own way in anything ever again. Too many people dont think about the consequences of their actions anymore...and they aren't raised to be held accountable...either because their parents are worthless or because they are afraid to discipline their kids. Something is going seriously wrong with mass shooters and people killing their kids and parents and not being able to take when they are told "no" about something....and it has nothing to do with the weapons the people use.

Your reaction at the end, sitting in silent disbelief, was my exact reaction… total disbelief and shock.

This is sad on so many levels.How a person besides multiple people don't see or overlook injuries that has this kids face black in color! How could ANYONE not know he needed attention.Thanks for your reaction.I remembered this one so really amazing to see when you realized what they had truly done to him.

This was sickening ! These TRAINED "professionals " were so intent to put the blame on this kid ~ that they completely ignored what was overwhelmingly apparent , they should have at least had him checked out instead of sitting in a squad car for HOURS !!!

My mind is blown on this one. No words at all. Not just sitting in the car, he went to sleep and woke up the next day. So it was probably 2 days in total.

Jamel, I am just curious … why are you not posting this on your “music and more” channel? I don’t care, but I know people have already been complaining. I was just curious

Severe incompetence!!! So maddening and so sad. I just don’t know how that many people came in contact with him that couldn’t see what happened to his face. That wasn’t no damn normal black eye from a punch!! I always thought they sought medical attention first for both the victim and perp if they happen to catch them together. He obviously needed medical attention from the moment they came in contact with him. I hope everyone that handled him that day resigned immediately

They litterly killed him. You have to cry thinking what his parents are going through as well. Very, very tragic. :-{ abd heartbreaking.

This cop, Dalton, seems like he isn't questioning Ryan about his inaccurate answers because he wants to build up "proof" that Ryan is dishonest.

Without the pain we felt that day, I wish we could go back to how we were with each other after 9/11. We were more caring and friendly with each other after that tragedy. Be good to each other! It's not that hard!!!

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Especially with a person who's obviously been badly injured. I hate how they frequently seem to neglect medical attention for people in their care.

Wow. That was shocking, sickening and sad. To think what if he somehow answered a question that made him confess to killing his gf, out of just talking nonsense in the interrogation. Then they sent him to prison to die confused with severe brain damage. I actually never heard of not treating a person cuz they assume they committed a crime. Usually anyone, no matter what, is treated for injuries. They also try to offer them food, drink or anything for them to be more comfortable to open up in the interrogation. I wonder what he was thinking with handcuffing himself to the table?

I with you , Jamel. When Mr Ballen said the police officers 'walked in' I thought ...no, don't both of you have your backs to this young man.. Sadly, the young man had for at least 48 hours had a bullet lodged in his brain before the police arrived. That doesn't exonerate the police dept not having him looked at for another 8 hours... but likely what the parents took into consideration.

26:56 I made that connection fairly early, but wasn't entirely sure if he was lying terribly. The fact that MrBallen has done two stories involving that is amazing.
