Nice to see you back on line Tiffany! Two comments about taxis. My experience this summer was that the Uber service was run by taxi drivers using the app. I never encountered a private driver. Also except outside metros and bus-ferry terminals it was impossible to hail a cab. They were all driving towards their Uber calls. Greece has changed a lot since the 80s-90s. Taxi theft not as bad today. Young people who are in the workforce now have a different sense of pride and customer service compared to their parent’s boomer generation. Oops, divulging my age here.

Thanks! Yes Uber calls a taxi in Greece not a private driver.

Hope you are feeling better. I was in Greece two weeks ago. Spent two days in Athens then rented a car and traveled the Peloponnese area and as far north as the Meteora monasteries. I can say Greece is beautiful. The drivers are crazy. Speed limits don’t exist for them. Stop signs and yield signs are just a suggestion. Double parking happens all the time even on narrow streets. The people are friendly. We found in the tourist areas English was not a problem. Some of the rural areas they used their phones or relative to be able to translate to us. We had no issues when it came to communicating. Food is amazing. Go to where the locals eat. You will get great food and better prices.

@@inspireyou2396 Yes Glad my cousin learned how to drive in New York. She could keep up with the crazy drivers. 😂 Another thing we learned is that the gps is not always accurate. Our airbnbs had no addresses to them. Just Gps coordinates or you had to look for land marks. Here is a perfect example of how wrong the gps was. One of our Airbnb’s was a treehouse. Highly recommend staying there. The gps took us to the top of a mountain. Yes the top. We came to a dirt road and the gps was still telling us we had two more miles to go. We reached out to the host and the gps was way off. So reach out to your host and get really good directions.

So glad you are feeling better! Glad to see you back! I was there for my 2nd cruise of the summer in late September with Virgin Voyages and ended up in the ER the morning of disembarkation with a slipped vertebrae. We were blown away by the kindness and compassion in the hospital and so blessed to have doctors who spoke some English. Very different than an ER here in the states. After X-ray and Cat Scan, they gave me enough painkillers for the flight home and gave me paperwork to give my doctor here at home. The incredible, almost non-existent cost to us for all of this blew us away. I will be doing a video about it after my surgery in two weeks. I hope to be back in Greece late next year again, and was gutted to have to miss the cruise and see more of the country I hadn't been able to on previous trips. Take good care of yourself and can't wait for all your new videos!

Very good information, Tiffany. I have a plan to permanently move to Greece Athens As a single Canadian . Next month.. what kind of money you need? .living in a very good life ? Which place to start a new life in Athens?. And how much the rent of good area?. I am Art gallery owner in Canada.. kindly tell me ..thank you if you give me answers...
@agirlandherpassport11 ай бұрын
For the resident permit I am on you need €2000 a month. I would say you need a bit more if you want to travel around and not do it on a budget. I would come explore Athens and see what you like in terms of neighborhoods first before moving here. Rent is variable depending on the area. Hope this helps!

My late mother worked as a taxi driver since 2008 up until she got sick late 2022. Taxis are by law obliged to have a POS in for cards but it isn't preferred by them for various reasons such as the tax etc. Basically you can ask them for POS but always have cash on you. The night fare starts at midnight and ends at 6 am. As for the rip off don't use taxis from the inside the ports better walk out and flag down a passing taxi than take one from the lines and same goes for the Bus terminals. They tend not to use the taximeter (which is Illegal obviously) when they pick up tourists especially. Now as for the Airport due to the location you unfortunately have to use them but always check to see if they engage the taximeter. My dad works in the Airport there (also a taxi driver) but also you can use apps like Uber or taxiplon and others that exist. As for the traffic lights what most drivers ignore that they have to stop at least a meter or two before the pedestrian lines!!! No one respects that and we has to slalom between cars and motorbikes!!!!
@agirlandherpassport11 ай бұрын
This is great info! Thank you. I think they hide the POS somewhere because I have never seen one in a taxi. The no space to cross the intersection for pedestrians drives me nuts. The people who park in them make me more mad than the drivers because at least the drivers will move soon but the parking ones make it impossible to get across safely.
@moonwalker926611 ай бұрын
yeah they put the POS in the glove compartment usually but if you ask they will take it out for you. Also always ask for the receipt just in case. Most of them evade taxes by not giving a receipt. And yeah it's a very big problem with parked cars and small and inaccessible sidewalks. @@agirlandherpassport

Hi Tiffany, thank you for the video. I have two questions: First, are there any incidents of loosing your luggage (from the ferry rack) because someone else has taken it. And second, you mentioned to tip the taxi but I thought there was no tipping in Greece or does that only apply to restaurants.
@agirlandherpassport11 ай бұрын
You’re welcome. I have only heard of someone loosing their luggage once in all the years I have been coming here. I don’t worry about. There is tipping in Greece. It’s not big amounts but it is done. I mainly do it in restaurants but to and from the airport is also appropriate

Here's a driving tip for Greece - Beware of the rotaries. They changed the law ten years ago that requires cars already in the rotary to stop and let new cars in ... it seems crazy to those of us from the U.S. where cars in the rotary have the right of way.
