Funny, having trouble with the ignition interfering with the radio...same problem they had in the 70's in full sized cars.......not sure if wrapping the module in foil would help you or not....I know when they shield magnets they just put a metal shield around them to "disrupt" the magnetic field.....

@@FTG777 true having both is great for all different running environments unfortunately not everyone agrees that nitros sound sick! 🤦♂️ I have 3 electrics and got my first nitro used to rebuild a few months ago and I love it I think my next buy will be another noteo

Idk, I prefer electric over gas on rc. I just want to let it rip, not fine tune and fiddle with everything just for a few minutes of fun just to repeat the process. Gas is fun when you have time to waste 😂

Hey Kev! I’m sure you’re aware how the 2 strokes operate… With that engine being older, if any seals, gaskets or o-rings on the crankcase have expired it’s going to give you all kinds of problems… Tuning included… Now that it quit running all together is more of a sign something isn’t happy… Might need a rebuild… 👍

love HPI's old stuff. I have a Savage 25 i bought almost 20 years ago that I dug out of the garage after sitting for who knows how long and it fired right up. Been upgrading it and fixing some stuff and got it pretty well tuned in now. Just wish finding parts was easier. Got the wheel conversion like yours as well and that is the single best upgrade I have done. Much needed. Anyway, I just love nitros and petrols and would love to see more of yours!

I was never really all that big into HPI Savages, was always a Tmaxx fan myself. That said I always always ALWAYS lusted after and wanted an Octane. Never could afford it and by the time I could they were all discontinued. That and an Inferno MP5 and or MP7.5 were the three cars from back then that I wanted so bad but never got. Modern electric RC cars are awesome for sure but they lack the X factor, the je ne sais quoi that slow (comparatively) and unreliable old nitro cars have in spades. Thanks for the nostalgia and for the awesome entertainment Kev!

@kevin Talbot Hello from across the pond!! Dude, I have a savage xl with the 5.9 big block. I’ve had it since brand new, and it is by far my favorite rc. There is nothing that bashes like it could. The noise, smell, and of course the frustration of keeping a nitro tuned, is something I always loved. Just recently my one way bearing for starting it crapped out, so no more running the savage. I’ve been searching all over, but parts are so few. I loved this video, I always wanted the gas savage, but never committed to buying it. Love your videos man!! Cheers

Kev I think the battery for the ignition box was dead at the end there. I had also a similar issue with the car not wanting to start after long runs and feeling loose, you gotta let the engine completely head cycle and it will run again. And I mean COLD to the touch.

Hey Kev, check the isolator block (sits between the carby and the engine) for cracks or gaps. When the engine gets hot it can cause an air leak which throws the carby out and it just won’t start, often the isolator blocks are plastic so it can warp not making it seal flush on the engine / carby… check the gasket while your at it too brother 👍🏻

Love the smell and the sound of the nitro cars, but I don't have the patience to deal with them when they don't want to start. I want to thank you for the knowledge and information about these name brand trucks. I had a few of the bangood specials over the past few years for my grandson and myself, and he's been urging me to get some better and bigger ones lately. He's getting old enough for the big trucks and he's a good driver so this winter we got some good trucks and we're having a blast out bashing with each other!!!
@samuelzimmerman2062 Жыл бұрын
Kev I think I know why hpi used those tiny little hexes on the wheel nuts. I think it was so you could use your glow plug wrench on the wheels so you didn't have to carry around another wrench to take off the wheels. I did this for a while on mine and it worked pretty well... until it didn't. Still a sucky design but that's why I think they did it.

The octane is reliable, but you have to run 25:1 oil ratio (motocross grade oil) and it should sound a bit rich wen youre running (if it sounds like reving high you’re too lean). I have 2 of them and love them. But they unique. Wen you’re tuning make adjustments by 1/32 of a turn. And you can mount the cdi under the roll bar with zip ties(that’s what I did).

T maxx was definitely better than Savage, better features too with reverse and the EZ Start, but do have a soft spot for the Savage since it was the first nitro I ever drove when a family member had one, but probably the nicest Kevin has been to a RC car that I've seen since I've been watching the channel 😂😂😂
@inawrocki207 Жыл бұрын
It's funny you say that. Growing up, Savage .21 changed the game with its legendary durability that Tmaxx couldn't even begin to rival. It was bigger, heavier, faster. Also, Savage is still one of the handful of Nitro's that can have reverse, too. All of mine have reverse channel 3. Including the Octanes, which took unique to a whole new level. It's a shame the new managed HPI is nothing like the original premium company. Not gonna lie, the new V2's use garbage Chinesium hardware, overall not great. But that TVP chassis is still superior in every way.
@spoolyboi9434 Жыл бұрын
@@inawrocki207 I was honestly a fan of both my uncle had a savage I had Traxxas, Tmaxx definitely had reverse in its earlier ones and the option to add it in later ones, I had a Traxxas Smaxx which was a 2wd tmaxx basically, later added a 4wd kit which made it like a Tmaxx with a different body, had it as a teen and wasn’t kind to it at all only issues I ever had were a clutch spring and then a one way bearing for the EZ start, the 3.3 and 2 speed was a animal for me I ran VP 15-20% nitro thing was awesome until I let it sit for years
