Bacteria can be easily turned into chemical warfare. Skin eating bacteria and etc. As an artist myself, I think it shouldn't be modified because of the risks. I believe she has a good heart but messing with God's creations for beauty only is wrong.

it sounds like they're breeding strains that express certain biomarkers under the right condition (already used in all kinds of lab testing). I once interviewed for a company that used modified jellyfish proteins to detect common diseases with a drop of blood, and a device the size of a slightly larger cell phone (this was before Theranos). Bacteria or viruses change color in the presence of chemicals, biological material, or simply react to light frequencies). They're not engineering gain of function for increased infectivity. That said, the same tools can be used for good, bad or innocuous purposes as one could use a welder to create a water wheel, a gun, or a metal sculpture.
