Of these, I'd say Martinez is the best. A green Lieutenant who _recognizes_ that he's new at the job? Who, despite that, isn't useless? Who leads from the front? And who *_listens to his platoon sergeant?_* Hell yes! I'd also submit Lt. Jean Rasczak of the Mobile Infantry. In the movie, he's a cool Michael Ironside character, a tough-minded teacher-turned-soldier who managed to soar through the ranks to platoon officer (possibly in the space of a bare few months) and managed to build the loyalty of his entire unit through personal heroics. In the book, Rasczek's lead-from-the-front, "see to the men first" approach went even further. He moulded Rico into true officer material, and built his unit into such a band of brothers that after he died (in combat, saving one of his men by tossing the soldier bodily onto a dropship, and shielding him from bug anti-aircraft fire with his body), telling a man in Rasczek's Roughnecks who was acting up that _"The Lieutenant_ wouldn't like it" was almost enough to reduce the offending trooper to tears.

Malcolm Reynolds was a sergeant with the Independents, not a lieutenant. He took the rank of Captain for his ship. The rank of lieutenant commander is still considered a form of commander, not lieutenant. The same goes for colonel.

While noting the continued absence of the Emperor's servants from yet another list of heroic humans (the Inquisition has been informed), of the candidates listed here, I think Ellen Ripley has the edge. She fought against some of the most horrifying and vicious aliens in pop culture, and she did it all as a civilian with no formal combat training or experience whatsoever. Luke Skywalker was also a civilian, but he benefited from being born with the abilities of a space wizard who could learn to command the Force - Ripley had no such supernatural assistance. She was an effectively untrained, baseline human against some of the most nightmarish of all Xeno scum, and yet she prevailed, and she did so on multiple occasions before finally sacrificing her own life in defence of humanity and taking a nascent Alien Queen with her in the process. A record like that demands respect.

Captain keys turning hurt he was just a genuine good guy. This daughter carrying on his mantle and leading was really nice but I allways missed him and felt sad he suffered so many serious injuries in his career to be so deformed and mercy killed at the end. His willpower refusal to give the flood information is insane and he was the guy that made you feel like you could beat the covenant in halo combat evolved as the ships being boarded attacked and it’s all going to shit you just wake up from Cryo sleep and lights are turning off. Honestly I think it’s just how calm and composed he is, if not for Avery Johnson being around that calm composed reliableness would all be on chief. Also they never shut up about his crazy space battle strategies which is a whole different kind of tactics I can’t even imagine. Lt Keys is still one of my favorite if not favorite Lt In sci fi and I just wish he could of survived longer so we could see him in some crazy space battle of something not over run by flood turned into a meat sack lol.

Razak played by Micheal Ironside. If you can find it on the net (Episodes might still be on KZbin), I would highly suggest giving a gander to the CG animation of Roughnecks: Starship Trooper Chronicles to get a better depiction of Lt. Razak's leadership and heroism against the bug menace.

So she barely counts. 2) CAPTAIN Keyes was a Commander and not a Lieutenant before the events of Halo. So again close but no. 3) I'm pretty sure Luke is never given the rank of Lt. In fact I remember him being refered to as Commander Skywalker, and Red 5, not Lieutenant. 4) You didn't include actual Lieutenants who do awesome stuff. For example, 2nd. Lt Mira from Space Marine holding off an Ork WAAAAGH until the Space Marines arrive, Lt Jonny Rico from Starship Troopers leading the Roughnecks and capturing a brainbug, Noble 6 from Halo Reach securing Cortana and escorting her to the Pillar of Autumn, Honored Lieutenant Colaron Vor Artem Lo Bannick from the Imperial Guard commanding a Baneblade Super Heavy tank against an captured Baneblade and later a Shadowsword Super Heavy Titankiller against the forces of Chaos, and countless others. 5) You are so unsure of yourself in your own video that your description says captain and not lieutenant. Luke Skywalker was into _unnatural alien relations._ He drank green milk from the breast of Thala-Sirens, which were of the genus Pinniped, or Seals. That's too close to *space Dolphins* for my liking, and adds substance to the rumours that he had intimate relations with Ewoks. Humanoid aliens that look similar to humans with bits _"stuck"_ on and maybe body paint, are acceptable. But if a human can't do a sexy cosplay as one, a alien should not be considered suitable for romantic liaisons. Besides which, Luke Skywalker killed a whole lot of humans that exemplified the *Humanity First* mindset of keeping aliens under humanity [metaphorically, not physically in a sexual position, unlike some Rebel Alliance members I could mention - did you know that Han Solo showered with a Wookie?]. The Death Star would have kept the alien hordes in their place, but no, he had to go blow it up, just to impress a girl … and yes, she was further proof of his unnatural desires, _from a certain point of view._

Luke is being honored for his skill in battle not his affiliation to the Rebels. I blame the Emperor for the civil war in the Empire. He was preparing the Empire for the Yuuzhan Vong, but never told anyone of the threat that was coming. He also let the imperial officers to abuse the population and let corruption run rampant in many sectors of the galaxy. The Death Star destroyed Alderran and that destruction gave the rebellion legitimacy. It also led to many members of the Imperial military to join the rebellion. Alderaan was a core world and its resources would have been valuable in the war against the Vong.
