If you are new here you're in for something great. This little track outside of Dallas Texas is something I stumbled across a few months ago and have been going to races here weekly ever since. Yello Belly Drag Strip is UNSANCTIONED...meaning the NHRA and IHRA rules/safety requirements do not apply here. This place is and has been essentially legal street racing since 1955! Little add ons here and there but the core of the facility has remained unchanged for over 30 years and the spirit of the racers reflects the same. We take a tour from Ronnie Barnes the track manager who has also been racing here since 1981 himself. If these walls could talk...they'd be named Ronnie.

I was watching one of your videos at work and my boss heard Yellow Belly and started telling me stories of him, his brother and their friends running here . I can tell he misses racing because he goes into long talks about funny car races , his brother's hot rod races and gassers he's built . They're out of Weatherford and tells me he remembers Ronnie not only from the strip but from mutual connections and work as well . I'm going to have to pay Yellow Belly a visit with my boss so he can see how the younger crowd is carrying on the racing tradition . Keep up the people's track footage 👍🏽👍🏽

So much history packed in this video. Thank you for taking the time to put it together and thank you for the weekly “People’s Track” videos. Nothing has changed. My Dad raced here in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Gold 67 coupe Mustang with a 390 and 4 speed. It was a quarter mile track then and he always talked about how skeech the shut down area was. I raced there in the late 80’s with my 65 stepside C-10 and then a couple of fox body Mustangs. Definitely will have to make a trip out again tomorrow I check out the action and say hello and appreciate your time invested in making the videos happen!!

Back in 1986-87 I used to race my GSXR 750 there ..... scary place now that I'm 60 years old !!!!! I was told by an "old-timer" that the original owner wanted to extend the track to 1/4 mile but could not buy the land at the end to facilitate it. At the time I used to go, bikes ruled the street. That has all changed. Cars today rule the "scratch" so to speak. I remember the street light that was used. It was a wild place. Raymond Ross owned the track behind Yello Belly in the early 2000's. I used to work with him at LTV. He was quite the dirt tracker back in the day. He sold it last I heard because it flooded constantly. 🙂

I had a 2009 kawasaki zx14 like Ronnie's. It was stretched and lowered also. Had a accident on it in 2012 and broke my back. Can't walk anymore but would get back on it in a heart beat. Ron talking about wheelies is great, the 14 would come up at 80 shifting into 2nd. One day I kept it straight up and down at over 130mph. I had the wind push me from the left shoulder over to the right shoulder. I came to a patch of trees that blocked the wind and I finally brought it down.

Thanks for sharing bro! There's a lot of history and memories at that track. As you said I'm a nerd too when it comes to this shit. I live in SC and there was a small track we raced at in Darlington SC. 1/8 mile track nothing fancy but it was packed every weekend! Good times. We had a white 63 Nova II with a small block. The car was tubbed with a full roll cage. The guy that built the engine worked for Gene Fulton for a long time. We ran 6.30's consistently and we thought in the 80's we were flying!! The guys with the big money back then were running in the mid to high 5's. We thought it would last forever!! They eventually closed that track due to the fact it was right in the middle of a residential neighborhood! Thanks again for the trip down memory lane. I hope one day I can make it to "The peoples track"

I used to work on the railroad that goes right behind that track in 1979 and it was open then. It is a historic track which at that time was in the middle of nowhere.

Its great to see a video with Ronnie and the history of the track. Places like this are the grandfather of drag racing. Good on you for keeping the heritage and history of the sport alive. Especially in todays era where a lot of these places have closed their doors and more and more are closing for good each year.

You should come down to Houston and talk to judson Massingill at SAM Tech. Dude has been racing since the 60s around Dallas and Houston. He's done everything in the race community.

This is exactly the kind of stuff I love seeing. To me, racing in general was 10x more pure and badass back in the day. We saw that fall out with Nascar, we've seeing it fall apart with drag racing, and we've seen it fall apart with supercross. Listening to all of the old stories of Near-broke blue collar guys tweaking, shifting, drilling, and welding anything they could on a car.. whether it be a football in the RR coil spring, home made fuel baffles, etc.. they were out there to win, and wasn't banking on a credit card to fund it. The stuff you see put together there from back in the day carries that same old school theme of "We're not here to make it pretty, we're here to make it work".

I get the sentiment, but lets be real, most guys that run here aren't 'near broke'. Even if you're building your car yourself, most cars running here have $5000, $10,000, $50,000, $100,000+ worth of parts, plus cost of tools, workspace, etc. You gotta be well off, struck career-gold, or just be born into a family that was already doing that shit

I grew up at that track. My dad won B class about every Sunday all thru the 70's in a orange 66 Chevelle named Persuasion his name is Norman New. Had a lot of fun and memories at that track

Awesome piece of history! Somewhat reminds me of my home track, Huntsville Dragway in Huntsville Alabama. Functional time capsules.
