fact: florida recently (december 22 2023) significantly loosened up their pursuit policy. now, FHP can initiate a pursuit for any reason (used to only be allowed for DUI, felonies, or reckless driving), officers do not have to slow down/stop at intersections to make sure it’s clear, and officers can drive on the wrong side of the road. there are no restrictions or guidelines about when and where a pursuit is appropriate. they are encouraged to end the pursuit as soon as possible. they are not reprimanded if a bystander is injured or killed during a pursuit. most officers have enough common sense to not put the public at risk for a pursuit but there are definitely exceptions. i don’t think i need to explain why this was a stupid and dangerous change.

Civilian vehicles should by law have 75 mph limiters on them.... If you get caught messing with the limiter, it should be $5k to begin with... want your vehicle to be able to run wide open? $10k upon purchase of the vehicle, $6k per year.... The occurrences of the chases would drop drastically.

Second "chase" -- sorry, but we didn't catch any suspect firing any bullets at the cop's vehicle. BTW, in France, cops wouldd have been shooting at the fleeing vehicle 15 seconds into the chase. What a frigging waste.

If it is reckless and endangering other users of the road for the perpetrator to drive at very high speeds, why is the police traveling at such high speeds not also reckless and endangering, particularly since the chasing police are stimulating the perpetrator to travel faster and more recklessly? OnStar can immobilize a vehicle remotely, why cannot the police do so as well?
@ludicrous7044Ай бұрын
@@stevenanderson4644 The car must have the equipment for OnStar. They’re pitted only after stop strips fail. To do a pit you must be the trained.
@stevenanderson4644Ай бұрын
@@ludicrous7044 Thank you for your comment. What you say is true, of course. Allow me to state my complaint more precisely. 1) Many cars are already equipped with OnStar, so it would be worth considering to link the police with such vehicles to initiate a safe shutdown. 2) It would also be worth considering to require all new cars sold to be equipped with OnStar-esque technology. 3) It is technically possible to shut down modern electronics-controlled vehicles with focused, electromagnetic waves in the absence of special equipment within the vehicle. I will concede that the need for replacement for pit maneuvers is rare enough to make the investment of questionable value.
