Prince Mwamba Nobody was hyped for Blade. Nobody. And even the few action or Wesley Snipes fans who were had no idea it was based on a comic book. Credit where credit's due in being successful on its limited budget and proving to Hollywood even obscure comic book characters could potentially make a good film and some money. But just because the release timing of Blade was what it was doesn't make the film as anticipated or influential as something like Raimi's Spider-Man. If Blade never got made at all (and even X-Men, possibly), it's very likely Spider-Man still would have, because it came down to rights issues as the main thing that held that up for years. Those got solved, so the Spider-Man movie finally happened.

You're no0t alone. Although the movie was lackluster, I still enjoyed it and the hype for an American Godzilla movie where the King of the Monsters was done (mostly) right excited me to no end. Marketing for that movie was just perfect. They really gave you so little details it was the most rewarding thing ever when we got moments that would just be considered average in other modern blockbusters. Whole theater was holding it's breath at the fire breathing scene and everyone clapped when the credits rolled. Looking back, it's easy to see it's just an alright movie, but the experience of seeing it in that hyped up mindset was definitely made it worth the price of admission.

Yeah, I got goosebumps when I first watched it. If you at the time were still unsure about Heath Ledger in the role because of the pics of him in make up, hearing the Joker talk for the first time pretty much sold you on it. The voice has been imitated and parodied so many times that it has lost some of its effect but I remember it being very unsettling (and amazing at the same time) when I first watched that teaser.

The final moment of that movie when he flies into space, wow. I saw Superman around 8-10 years ago on a big screen in a packed cinema, there was applause at the end. The marvel movies are fun and crowd pleasers, but I don't feel like they're made with much heart.

I still remember being little and seeing the huge amounts of hype and marketing surrounding the first Spider-Man with all the games, snacks, apparel, etc. Then when the second one came it was twice as hyped and talked about with people being inerviewed while walking out the theater about what they thought. How in the name of God’s name did they forget the original trailer for the 2002 Spider-Man flick? It came out nearly a full year before the movie and snuck into theaters. Whilst it's not my favourite Spider-Man film, the first Raimi Spider-Man is a movie I love. And the teaser trailer for that where the Helicopter gets caught in the giant web between the two towers of the World Trade Centre was an insanely awesome way to introduce him. Pitty that the events of around that time caused that trailer to be scrapped. Still an amazing teaser trailer nevertheless, no pun intended.

I'm in the minority of people who don't really like Raimi's Spider-Man movies.... But that being said, back in 2001 when that trailer dropped? Shiiii, I was PUMPED. I was one of those kids who paid to see "FinaL Fantasy" just to watch that trailer. The entire robbery scene, being capped off with the shot of the helicopter caught in the webs between the WTC towers got everyone amped. Top it all off with shots of Spider-Man swinging through NYC to Lunatic Calm's "Leave You Far Behind" was all I needed back in the day. It blew my mind to finally see Spidey swinging about in live-action.

The Raimi movies, I'll at least agree, are well-made movies (1 & 2, anyway...). But I disliked the characterization of Peter Parker/Spider-Man. I know Peter is supposed to be a nerd and socially awkward... but to me, Tobey's interpretation made him waaaayy to meek, and too much of a pushover. For me, it got to the point that I didn't buy him behind the mask as Spider-Man, who is traditionally very outspoken, tells corny jokes, and has a bit of an attitude. I actually liked Andrew Garfield's interpretation of Spidey, as he gave him a bit more of an edge. Some people complained he was "too cool", but I thought of him more as a bit of an outcast. Either way, his more aggressive attitude lended itself well to when he was behind the mask. As imperfect as the "Amazing" movies are, I liked his version of Spider-Man: told jokes, had attitude... Little things like wearing a fireman's helmet when he helped put out fires, or stretching before doing battle with the Rhino. To me, THAT was Spider-Man.... he was just in bad movies hahaha. I think Tom's is the perfect blend of Tobey and Andrew. He's sensitive, but not overtly so... He has attitude, but there isn't a sense of arrogance. His is definitely the most fun characterization I've seen, which is very much Spider-Man to me. Wow, that was a rant lol.

The two movies that came to mind while I was watching this that didn't come up on your list were two old IPS that they tried to resurrect in the 90's: The Rocketeer and The Shadow, both of which I was pretty hyped for. I feel the former lived up to the hype, bringing a certain childlike joy to what proved to otherwise be pretty serious material, what with their being people getting bent in half and revealing the very real horror of Nazi sympathizers living in America before we entered WWII. It's remains one of my favorite movies that could be considered part of the early comic-book movie renaissance that laid the foundation for what we have today. The Shadow, on the other hand, ended up up being too silly while still taking itself entirely too seriously, ultimately failing to live up to the hype generated before it's release and I was genuinely looking forward to it; I like the idea of a sort of Batman-like character who had a largely similar modus operandi (being a rich man intent on being a bogeyman for criminals to fear), but had a different back story and a largely different way of interacting both with the criminals he fought and with the community he served. While there were good ideas in the movie, too much of it was executed too much like a cartoon on the one hand, too much like a gritty noir mystery on the other to mesh properly and the sum total just fell apart.

I can't wait for superhero movies of old to come back in modern day. How they made u to believe and made u imagine have these powers and what u could do with them. This is what we need what the world needs

Another great thing about the 1989 BATMAN was the poster you saw on the VHS cover. At the top: “NICHOLSON - KEATON”. In the middle, the Batman logo. No appearance or mention of the title, except in the credits on the back of the box. As a kid, I thought that any movie that feels confident people will know what it is by having just the logo on the poster, no title anywhere, must be a badass movie. Also, it’s funny how Warner Bros. got up in arms over all the dark and sexual content that Burton added for BATMAN RETURNS, yet the guy they hired to do the first movie’s soundtrack was famous for songs about having freaky sex in Corvettes and whacking off to dirty magazines.

I think Batman Begins got a lot of people hyped if not just for the fact that it was leaving the style of the previous Tim Burton & Joel Shumacher films behind. It seemed more steeped in reality and it gave you an entirely new villain that we hadn't seen before in a Batman movie/tv show (besides the animated series of course).

Great job with this list. The only one I would have added was the original 2002 Spiderman movie with the Green Goblin that broke the Box Office Record at the time. That was super hyped, and was sold out almost everywhere. I had to drive 50 miles to a 9:00am showing in the middle of nowhere to get a ticket. And I vote it lived up to the hype, even if the sequel was much better, and the 3rd movie is one of the worst ever.

Daniel Coleman however, star wars episode I was the #1 movie of '99(nearly a billion).. Overloads of hype for the saga's return. It even beat another movie that was hyped up, only 2 months before and after it's release. The Matrix, ranked #4 in '99(nearly half a billion).

I never thought I'd hear you talking about serials of all things in this show. I didn't know that there was Dick Tracy serial and animated movie until now. You guys skipped "Batman Forever". It came out AFTER "Batman Returns" but BEFORE "Batman & Robin".

I think at least one of the Raimi Spider-Man trailers should have made the list. I remember the trailer for Spider-Man 3 being all kinds of hype and we all know how that one turned out. Well, except Martin.

Tim Story's Fantastic Four had a very good theme tune though. I hope it stays. As for Singer's X-MEN... Rebecca Romijn. Phew! Hot actress and was an awesome Mystique. She was a believable ass kicker. Not like the unsure or un-involved Jennifer Lawrence version.

About Superman The Movie...one thing that's kind of been lost to history is the fact that scenes from the film were NOT in the pre-release trailers, in theaters or on TV. This is what you got: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmq9pYZtetKUmtE No stars, no effects, just the fact that the movie was coming out, PERIOD. And opening weekend, all those shows were *packed*. You only got the trailer with actual footage a week or two after the film was released. I saw it several times during its first week in theaters...always sold out, and every time Superman said that he was here to "Fight for Truth, Justice, and The American Way", people went INSANE. Massive applause, to the extent you could just barely here Lois follow up with "You'll be fighting every elected official in this country"...

I’m surprised 2002 Spider-Man didn’t get a mention. That very first teaser of the bank robbery, and seeing that helicopter caught in webs between the WTC Towers... followed by Spidey swinging thru the city?... That shit got EVERYONE hype. Paid to watch “Final Fantasy” just to see it on the big screen

I still remember going to see I AM LEGEND just so I could see the Trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT. I AM LEGEND even had a fake billboard of "Batman V Superman" in the movie and it came out in 2007. I literally got chills seeing THE DARK KNIGHT trailer for the 1st time though. When Batman lands on the van and you can feel the bass from the music vibrating the theater seats. FUCK it felt like it got me HIGH everytime I saw that trailer. Seriously.... every movie I saw in 2008, if they showed a trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT before the movie... it made me NOT want to see the movie I paid to see. I just wanted JULY 2008 to come quick so I could finally see The Dark Knight. It was also one of the first movies that SURPASSED my expectations. I had HIGH expectations for it, and it somehow surpassed them. So I saw it 4x that Summer.

the trailer that has got me the most excited as far as I remember was Prometheus :) Ridley Scott making a new Alien film! it didnt get any better than that for me :) I did like the film! but it was different to what I expected :) BUT what I was hoping for was some serious bad ass Space Jockey story!! and their lab of evil!! humans getting treated like lab rats!! escape from the crazy space scientists :)

Troy H haha, no. at the masquerade ball when Bruce and Selina are dancing under the mistletoe. Michael Keaton's genuine look of surprise and devestation and Michelle Pfeiffer's heartbreak and near mental breakdown... just epicness and so great that Nolan paid homage to it in Dark Knight Rises. It was just perfection to me cause it wasn't just saying lines, you could physically feel their anguish onscreen. "Oh my God, Does this mean we have to start fighting?" 😂😭😂 classic
