You can use this same footwork at the end of a combo too, sometimes called "step off to the right" in boxing. 1.Throw your combo and skip backwards to exit range (opponent will stop defending to throw their attacks but has to chase you because you are out of range) 2. Lateral step right (opponent has to stop chasing and start turning to face you) 3. Step forward towards opponent into fighting stance again while throwing a jab to start another combo on them (opponent is being attacked just as they finish turning to face you) You basically make them miss their entire turn at attacking and you get two attacks in a row.

Gabriel I would like to thank you for dedicating lots of time to your KZbin channel. This channel is a well of knowledge. You explain your topics very well and it helps that you don’t stumble with your words or go on tangents. Other educational combat sports channels like Cory Sandhagen’s have a lot of knowledge as well but what separates you is definitely your concise speaking.

KISS - Keep It stupid simple. Nice, we need more on pure footwork. Maybe mix footwork with defense or ofense, emphasizing on feet movement.

The "stand your ground" style is the rockem sockem robot way of fighting. In my opinion you gotta be able to go forward and backwards and side to side. But I understand where that comes from. Especially in muay thai or muay thai influenced things. Moving backwards/ to the side is seen as being scared or weak. But in reality, it opens up all kinds of offensive opportunities. Just moving forward in a straight line is basic and less than optimal. Imagine a loma style fighter but adjusted for kickboxing, he would destroy everyone. Kickboxers in general need to evolve already. Most of them are still basic in that way of move forward and trade blow for blow.

In Wing Chun there's a drill called "Toi Ma" (推馬) or "pushed stance", very similar to the footwork you extol. It's to take only one step back diagonally, throw a counterpunch to the outside of the opponent's attack with the back hand, then advance. The measure of mastery is how quickly you can transition from going backwards to going forwards ... and if you're in a street fight and you are forced back 3 times- you should run, right now.

He has videos on catching or knocking if of the side and follow up with lowkick but check the video. The technique has to be right to avoid question mark kick
@mistral-unizion-music4 ай бұрын
You can perry a teep but you have to move the opponent so his front side goes away from you. If he throws a right teep, you perry it with your right hand and push it to YOUR right so the opponent will not be able to punch you because he will be facing AWAY from you at an angle. If you perry his right teep with your LEFT hand to your LEFT, it would end up him being able to punch you with his left cross for instance. NOT GOOD. Hope this helps. Of course opposite side = you do the opposite. (His LEFT teep / your LEFT perry). You can also just pull back and add a hip movement to avoid the reach of the opponent's teep so he misses.

@@mistral-unizion-music Also to add you must clear the face to avoid question marked and hollow back slightly to avoid getting hit.

Thank you so much Gabriel for covering this type of footwork Gabriel, our coach at the gym always tells us how footwork is one of the most important elements of a fight. This video was a great coverage of footwork for me and being more aggressive and offensive. I cannot wait for the offense course as well!

Can attest. I've been doing this intuitively even since I started training. Keeps me mobile, though as a natural southpaw I need to improve it when I'm in orthodox stance. That shape in mind might help me, so thanks.
