Let me ask, how much more CFM does lower agitation machines need in order to outperform higher agitation machines though? I know that lower agitation machines with about only 5 more CFM will do a bit worse.

You have to know what the total span of agitation difference and CFM difference is. Also, too much agitation destroys flooring, so can you even count that? I have a Royal super agitator brushroll that destroys everything in its path...not good. Generally speaking though, you'd need around double the agitation to counteract half the airflow in many cases.

Hello mr vac lab. I’m looking into replacing our black +decker vac and would like to get your opinion on the BEST bagless vac with great airflow and agitation to beat out deep down dirt and dust. for bagged I’m looking to start with a sanitaire if possible.

There are no newer bagless machines with great airflow. Best newer bagless I've tested is the Dyson DC77. It's only average though.

You were close. Airflow is always the key. If you need to move the dirt, you need to move the air.

more like at most 50/50 dependance . when cleaning carpets which is what most vacuums are designed for , you must have good agitation, agitation and air flow go hand in hand. but to say airflow is most important doesn't seem accurate because if you brush roll not spinning you are not getting optimal cleaning performance and your debris is just going to sit .

You're over thinking a simple concept. If there's no airflow, the dirt has nowhere to go, period. No airflow literally implies a clog. You can have all the agitation and suction you want, but if there's no airflow, the dirt can't move.

The best way to think about this is, if there’s no agitation but plenty of airflow, about 15% of the dirt can be removed. But if there’s plenty of agitation with no airflow, 0% dirt will be removed because there’s no volume of air to lift and move the dirt.

@@VacLabI agree. But if there is no Suction, Airflow cannot do anything right. So Airflow & Suction go hand in hand. I agree agitation is less imp as with airflow+ Suction it can pickup dust from floors.

@@RK-py8bq nope. The proof is that airflow can exist without any or nearly zero suction. My tests since 2017 easily prove this. Most top notch vacuums have very high CFM paired with very small suction at the nozzle. Example: 135 CFM & 12" cleans much better than 60 CFM and 60".
