I have two rainbow D2 vacuums. The water filtration concept is neat,but water does not filter well and these machines put a lot of the dust back into the air. And yes,I change my water very frequently and am not vacuuming talcum powder or fireplace ash. Water is a poor filtration medium. When Rainbow went to their first plastic models,the D3A and D3C models,they made the huge mistake of venting the exhaust into a clear dome with an inner plastic cylinder covering the motor that had a pattern on it. The dome would quickly become fogged up with all the dust that got past the water and into the motor and dome. Rainbow abandoned that design and changed the way the motor exhausted so the dust just escaped through the exhaust vents and never went into the dome. Rainbow vacuums were always rated the worst at filtration by consumer reports until the slapped a hepa filter over the exhaust,which not only is an admission to how poor water filtration works,but also defeats the one advantage of water filtration..no suction loss.

Love your videos! I’ve got a question, as a European I’ve always been fascinated by the Elite/Legacy line of uprights. Would you be able to borrow one from someone to put it through its paces? The difference between the 5, 7 and 12 amp versions might be especially interesting and I’d love to see Mrs. Vaclab’s opinion. I know it’s got a mixed reputation in the vacuum cleaner community and would love to see the objective raw number for it as it forms the stepping stone between the old Hoover convertible and modern clean-air uprights, with the different motors literally forming several steps, slowly climbing from the low wattage of the olden days to the high wattage motors of today.

@@VacLab Well, I know that for some people it represents that first cheap plastic Hoover, at least some collectors groups seem quite divided on that issue. One side hates it, while the other camp seems at times almost overly optimistic and idealistic about it, tbh I do kinda fall into this group, though I’ve never been able to use it, I do quite like it. So I’d love to see what the objective data, not marred by emotions or nostalgia say.

Yet another device you have to connect to the Internet. That being said, it's interesting. I'm glad it has a recovery system for dirty water but I would love to see a two in one like this have a wet and dry vac motor to quickly extract all dirty water off of the mop roller. That being said, I think I will stick with my Rainbow with its various wet cleaning attachments.

I wold love to have one for one of my Kirbys if only for the novelty of it! I have plenty of dedicated sanders and the ergonomics of those machines is vetter than something attached to a vacuum cleaner hose, but this is cool just because of how absurd it is ,like the Handi Butler.

Help! Bought an e-series last week and set up the power brush and it doesn’t want to stay on. The red light comes on and when I push the reset button, I have to hold it in a certain level and it will go for a small amount of time. I have cleaned the attachment. Replaced the belt. Looked at the reset switch. No loose wires. Do you have any suggestions.
@VacLab

@dianastriker2309 seems like you have an open circuit caused by worn connections. Have someone service it. Or, it could be a bad circuit breaker in the PN.

I just want to drop a line to thank you for these video's. You got me though 2 full 100 percent correct D50 restorations with ease and I have an extremely nice original D80 from a collector on the way that will probably need a fresh bearing lube plus a light polish. Thank you for making my wallet lighter as I really needed that D80 like a hole in the head but visions of your green beauty was haunting me forever until I finally scored a good one last week. I do like my new 1990 and up Kirby's as workhorses but these older ones are just great and fun to own.

Oh Noooo!! I just ordered this vacuum off of Ebay cause I got a good deal on it but I didn't realize it doesn't have a roller brush for vacuuming carpeted floors. That's the main reason I bought it is to keep in my bedroom which is all carpet. UGH ! Now what am I gonna do with it? Why make a vacuum that doesn't work on carpets that's so stupid. Oversized dust buster really. 🙄

I have a similar Bissell I just got for free and tore it down, it also has awful bearings. Have you seen a Bissell motor that's even less serviceable than the one in this video? The fan housing seems rolled over the edge, and the brushes seem permanently wired to the field (eg the coil wire is crimped into the brush connector). Maybe I'm missing something though, was there a connector for the brushes that was easily removed?
