Dear Musicians, He is not saying you should stop playing for the church....He is telling you to go beyond the love gift and build wealth for yourself and family.

I am a new subscriber and thank you because this is a much needed conversation, even with me serving in churches for 40 years as MOM, leading praise and worship, etc. When I conversed with other musicians, I always encouraged them not to solely depend on the church to make a living. When the pandemic happened, many of them (some I talked with) had to sell their equipment and move back home with relatives, and some had no other working skills to survive. They thought that the churches would pay them while the pandemic was happening. There are also musicians who have no health or life insurance at all.

I can tell you, as a professional musician myself, as well as a church pianist/organist/keyboardist, I really can't stand being around most church musicians. There are a few that are humble, but most aren't. Especially if they are really good, most are very egotistical. I don't care about none of that, I just love giving back to God what he gave to me, the gift of music and using it in his house for his people in his services. This completely goes over the heads of so many church musicians when they're getting paid. It's their way of being on American Idol once every week , without actually being on American idol. So many of them have chased fame and adulation from people telling them how good they sound, that pride begins to take over and cloud their judgment about the important trajectory of their life. What you said is all fact. If a musician takes offense to everything you've said in this video, then we know that this video was talking about them!!!

Man, I've watched all 3 parts and finally someone is REALLY talking about this. I really hope this can at least make it to a 5 part series. This is what wisdom is.

No matter how great a player you are, thinking that being a musician will be enough to pay for a good life for you and your family is completely unrealistic and naive. I was a great player for 40 years, did all the great gigs, and still it wasn’t enough for ensuring stability. Quitting playing music was the best decision I ever made.

I'm not ashamed to say it---even though I've cosigned on everything you've posted on other videos and during your interviews on my podcast - I literally finally re-instated my life insurance policy that had lapsed years ago. Thanks for the reminder again, brother, sometimes we need another punch in the gut to remember to do what we should have done long ago. - ACP

Health insurance is insurance that we can get through our jobs and/ or something we call the affordable care act/ or some call it Obamacare here in the US and many other countries have health insurance too. Health insurance is to help us when we get sick to be able to pay for our doctors appointments medications and medical treatments and if hospitalizations etc. God bless ❤ He’s basically using American examples to prove a point but suggesting we all create content instead of solely relying on playing for church to pay us so we can have another income stream to be more financially secure which I am thinking content creation could benefit you in 🇯🇲 as well. I know I would love to learn to play chords progressions and patterns the Jamaican way or see examples of 🇯🇲 Gospel or have tracks to sing to or even see more of how you all musically approach worship! I think it’s so rich and powerful. If there were more content creators from 🇯🇲 it would be a blessing!

@@Noteworthy2024 This is game changing... Note Taken 🇯🇲 ✅👌🏾, some good musicians we have here that just need the platform . But most of us weren't taught on how to approach it. This very same youtube can help us make passive income. Thanks for the great advice 🙏🏾👊🏾

Church musicians in UK be like “you mean you actually get paid as a musician in the USA”? 😂 The amount of professional audio equipment in the bible belt of USA is disgusting vs UK who have zero budget for that cause all the money goes to listed historical building maintenance and heating bills😂 US church services are like American idol shows. That’s why i laugh when church musicians create youtube videos boasting about their $50,000 lighting rigs or brand new studio recording rigs like they paid for it themselves and own it.😂 its all public purse money being squandered on music and giving church musicians an education in audio engineering who then leave to become a youtube product placement stars. This is all so far removed from the point of prayer and preaching and is actually public robbery. When challenged preachers brush off all the high cost music budget robbery as “being blessed”😂 in the UK there are two expenses in church a grand piano an aging pipe organ. That’s it. Paid for years ago. Not constantly upgrading to the latest nord stage4 every 5 years.

A lot of truth in what you say…we are a very very capitalistic nation…everything is centered around that…even church sadly…this was the main reason I “got off the hamster wheel” I became sick of the pretense and actually left church all together for over a year…and I’ve spent the better part of the last 2 years trying to find a church here that doesn’t fall into that same category…it’s very difficult…but on the flip it is an amazing training space to where you can grow and really learn very useful and marketable skills…to your point everything I’m doing now professionally is rooted in what I learned being a church musician
@wilkopiano2 ай бұрын
@@Johnmike if the UK had more modern eco friendly church buildings that are cheaper to maintain i would imagine they would also diversify the money into great music productions to attract more people to service but perhaps the egotistical side would wain in favour of providing music education services for free that way justifying the spend and giving something back to the community to those interested. A berklee college audio engineering degree costs $60,000, which not many can afford or get scholarships so ego should not even come into it if the public purse is being used for free education. Twisted capitalism running the word of god like a business and not even a charity.

@@Johnmike good to know, JM - I’ve always enjoyed your excellent and very insightful work on KZbin. I’ve always made too much money on paper for ObamaCare (supposedly the “Affordable” Care Act, which is completely unaffordable for me!), yet not enough money to afford private health insurance. So me and my family have no health insurance because the political regime in place has made illegals a priority for healthcare over U.S. citizens. This vid is another example of why the church won’t be destroyed but will continue become irrelevant. Look at this situation. You grow up playing music for Jesus, the best music you supposedly can play and the reason for it. Then you open up the book and Jesus himself is telling you not to store up treasure on Earth but in heaven
@Johnmike2 ай бұрын
def shouldn't store up the treasures "for yourself" but it def says you should leave an inheritance for your children's children...and that "if you don't work you don't eat"...it's a "common sense" conversation that's relevant to all musicians...forget all the church references...Just don't DIE BROKE that's all I really want folks to understand
