You can tell by the curtains in kitchen, the little wooden pegs for hanging cooking utensils by stove, pretty wall paper and other things left in place, this was once a beautiful loved family home. Wish this family God's help and miracles and love in their hearts forever. I havent watched the video yet, but 5 years ago, I was suffering from post natal depression and had two undiagnosed conditions. My house waa extremely messy and dirty. Including our large 6 car garage.to top it all off, all of my 10 kids were taken off me because of the state of the house. Fast forward 5 years, i have 6 of my kids back, got rid of 12 double axle trailer loads of junk, 4 3ft bins worth of junk and several binloads and my house is spotless. Save for a minor amoount left and a good clean is needed. All i wanted was a friend who would help me out of the pit without judgement. I was too embarrassed to even open the door and ashamed. If i had gotten the help, i would probably still have all my kids. (The oldest 3 are now adults) I have now been diagnosed with adhd and a mild form of autism. And im feeling much better. I actually really enjoyed the major decluttering of my house and im still going. Thankyou from the bottom of my heart for helping people without judgement. You are a tremendous blessing. One i wished i had 5 years ago.

At some points in the video it looked like it hadn't been lived in for years. Remindes me of my mother in laws house. We didn't know how bad the condition was until we removed all her layers of stuff. In the end it was a complete gut job. You did an amazing job on that kitchen sink!!

I applaud you for taking on this project. You did an amazing job! However, if someone like you offers to clean a home for free, at the very least they should be honest about the conditions, even if that might be embarrassing. It may make a big difference in the type of products you take with you, or how much time you schedule.

Sad to see a house in such bad shape. If you don't keep up with repairs they can get away from you. Just two years ago I gutted the bathroom and rebuilt it. Much of it was from the 1950's other than a vanity from the 70's. This summer the kitchen gets new floor tile and a new butcher block counter top. I budget $1000 a year for home fix up. Even the organizing of the hobby room today has an expense of $70 for new storage boxes and replacement boxes. Keep the videos coming , next is finishing the sunroom organizing!

I give you all the credit that you deserve. A couple helpful hints. A microwaveable dish filled with water for the microwave. Let it boil inside it. Then wipe clean. Easy. Also, after the baking powder and vinegar, follow with boiling water. For the drains. But, what you were dealing with at this home….. A gut job.

I don't think it would be worthwhile for Barbie to tackle this horror house. The bathroom is so despicable it should be dismembered, down to the filthy ceramic floor. (notice the plastic mat she lifted from the tub? Jeezaloo!!!) If there's a sliver of kindness from the homeowner, she could do a service by giving Barbie a substantial amount of money for the worthwhile effort she put into getting her house cleaned, IF she manages to accomplish it. I'm not patronizing the owner, but this task undoubtedly is the worst appointment our angel had to master on her own, the poor thing.

I haven't seen kitchen counters with the aluminum edging the linoleum that was put on top of the counters since the 1950's. This was a popular countertop since the 1940's. I really believe that this kitchen is that old. The tile backsplash was, of course, added later (60' - 70's). This was a thankless job since all you had to work with was ancient cabinetry. The covering on the kitchen cabinets is Contact Paper - almost impossible to get off when it is this old. Always, your work is awesome. Thank You for being you.

Just viewed this video. This home needed much more than cleaning. The owners should have disclosed the plumbing issues that obviously would prevent proper cleaning. Your faithful viewers and supporters would never blame you for a lack of "pretty"results under such conditions. We watched you work so hard. We saw some improvements. Underneath the sink where it curves you can sometimes loosen up the gasket around it and remove it to empty out anything clogging the sink. Can’t help you on the tub though.

The sink that doesn't drain might be sometimes caused by just the clogged siphon (the S or L shaped pipe under the sink). I like to unscrew it (you have to remember the order where each piece goes), clean it from muck, grease, hair, and reattach, making sure I did it properly so it doesn't leak. It's most satisfactory, I must say.

When the sink, tub AND toilet don't work, there's probably a problem in a common sewer line. Also, it looks like a smoker lived here. Walls and ceilings are yellowed. I hope this isn't a rental. What a slum.

My experience is, that L shapes siphons get clogged all the time and you can not use a plunger. I had to open that damn siphon every couple of months. The positive thing about it is, that all that stuff will not go into the pipes in the walls but I will never use this type of siphon again. I would also recommend to first open an clean the siphon, if it's still clogged use a drain chemical, if it's still clogged or slow you need a professional. And always open the window when you work with all type of cleaners.

To get the stains out of the sink, bathtub, etc. Lay paper towels down inside the sink and spray with undiluted bleach. You'll be surprised at how white the porcelain gets. Let it soak for awhile. You do an amazing job!!!

I just finished a free home cleaning for a disabled senior. Spent my own money on drain unclogging products and nothing worked over 3 days. Literally poured money down the drain! Worth a try to help a friend, but cleaners aren't plumbers.

You did a great job with what you had to work with there, so you should in no way feel like you failed at all. Running water and working drains are a basic necessity to a cleaning project. I've read the other suggestion about loosening the plumbing pipe to remove debris, but I think in a case like this I would not risk that as everything is so deteriorated. What I have found works on drains like that is some type of snaking device. You can get a cheapy one at some dollar stores, but I use something that is actually a cat toy called a "cat dancer" which is a long wire with a tiny bit of rolled paper at the end. It's flexible and can be eased down a drain and the end piece will catch on debris and bring it up. Judging from the amount of buildup on the outside of the sink and bathtub, it might just be a blockage problem.

Sometimes the vent pipe on roof gets clogged with debris, if they can run a hose and long metal snake perhaps water can go down. Sometimes the pipe right under sink can be removed and unclogged. Try liquid draino or separately liquid lye.... If they could patch roof with roof tar, platic mesh, then roof tar...keep a roof on and patched and house can stand for years. Windows can be repaired. Beautiful old house that needs alot for sure. The most expensive I see would be old wiring and plumbing. It can be done. God be with them and you for trying to help... don't feel so bad, you are right about the repairs... you made a huge improvement with the time you had and also let them know things do need fixed... Actually this bathroom was state of the art about 100 years ago. A restorationist would be delighted with the tile. Might replace the pedestal sink with a salvaged one in better shape and maybe refinish the tub and toilet seat for another antique wooden one but otherwise nleave it be. The tile was considered quite sanitary back then but of course it depended one proper cleaning. 😊

Also..there are cleaning companies that use steamers to remove cig smoke and grease plus much more from walls and surfaces. Cost is not ridiculous and saves yourself from physical injuries due to reaching,bending,and exhausting behavior. They just steam. Swipe and wa-lah

I really love to use dish soap to clean with. It works super well to remove grease without the scrubbing. I just spread it around and let it sit for 5 mins then scrub it. I also recommend soft scrub. Also I recommend getting a pumice stone you can use it to remove toilet bowl stains and stink stains! Btw you’re amazing and so kind!♥️

I know you're not trying to add another job to all that you already do, but I keep a bottle of Crystal Lye Drain Opener in my cleaning "belt", just in case I run into any slow or blocked drains. It opens them up SO fast!

Le is very powerful. Be careful. It can explode in your face. Follow the instructions. Lye will burn your skin. Be careful for your eyes and skin. It can actually burn the seals of the pipe if used often.

I realise this is an old video but just seeing this now. Damn. That house needs to be completely redone. You can see the walls are heavily damaged throughout and the plumbing is gone. Cleaning wouldn't have helped at all. It needs to be stripped and reconstructed. The owners really should've told you the bathroom wasn't functional before you wasted your time trying to clean it. Good job for what you could do though x

We ended up living in an old family hoarder home- my husband's childhood home. Very extreme. Still have areas of neglect but that's where he chooses to live. Am elderly and had to move into my own place. I recognize the wall covering in the kitchen ☺️
