awesome video as always!! the even worse part about darkrai’s nerf is even though the nerf was more directed at smeargle, they didn’t even have to lower the accuracy of the move because in that same gen that lowered dark void’s accuracy, made it so that the move fails if smeargle even uses it, so it’s just a bigger lmao to darkrai 😭

The 2 biggest nerfs that come to my mind are Zacian-Crowned and Regieleki Moving from gen 8 to gen 9, Zacian-Crowned went from 170 attack to 150, and its ability, Intrepid Sword, was changed from always giving it +50% attack on switch-in, to only doing it once per battle. The worst part of this nerf is that Zacian's counterpart, Zamazenta, received similar nerfs to match, even though Zamazenta was never very good to begin with In gen 9, Regieleki's signature ability, Transistor, which increases the damage of electric-type attacks, was nerfed from a 50% boost to just 30%. Its counterpart, Regidraco, has a similar ability, but unlike with Zamazenta, it was not nerfed to match, and remains a 50% boost to all of Regidraco's dragon-type attacks

Not at all, his psyhical moves while being decent coverage theyre all lame in power (ThunderPunch, Brick Break, Leaf blade only being 70 power at the time, and so on) As much as Focus Blast sucks is a way better coverage and stronger than any psychical move sceptile has, same with stab, Leaf Storm, Giga Drain, Energy Ball and Grass Knot are way better than Leaf Blade And its not like sceptile got worse, since he wasn't that good to begin with

Honestly the battle bond nerf was absolutely deserved, but battle bond is still the optimal ability of greninja which is keeping it as a good OU threat, which goes to show how powerful even the new nerfed battle bond is

It's true that team preview hurt the viability of specialized leads. In my experience though (playing both gen 4 and gen 5 singles), a bigger factor was the explosion nerf, which changed it from essentially 500 base power to 250.

Darkrai, contrary to popular belief, was balanced with dark void getting 50% accuracy. They even waved their finger at Smeargle to make sure it didn't get this cheeky opportunity anymore. A dual sleep chance at 80% accuracy is busted, especially if either Pokemon rolled three or more turns of sleep. You could just spam this and completely disable the entire opposing team. How "skillful"...no respectable competitor with any actual skill would think otherwise. Why bother having a match at this point...unless you bring very specific counters?! I'm sure many "creative" and "fun" battles were had here. Talonflame was the one that was done the dirtiest. It's like Game Freak saw unskilled Smogon lovers shiver uncontrollably over how "broken" they thought gale wings was and checked the ability with the fury of a thousand scorned women when Sun and Moon released...completely ignoring this fire and flying type's non-existent 78-71-69 "bulk", stealth rock and quad-rock weaknesses, its poor move pool, and its pitiful base 81 physical offense. In front of rock-types, Talonflame did nothing substantial...not even a steel wing made rock types flinch much, even after a swords dance, if it didn't miss over and over again...and Game Freak still didn't bother to restore gale wings to its former glory. All Talonflame can do these days, and even then, was be annoying with will-o-wisp, while dying slowly and surely from flare blitz and brave bird recoil...and Game Freak acted like this thing was a legendary threat before they neutered gale wings.

I loved to troll Darkrai users with Magic Bounce Mega Diancie, but I agree that having to run certain cou nters just to be able to even fight is ridiculous. I also agree with Talonflame. Even in its absolute hayday, it never felt like a game ending threat, it just didn't have the stats and movepool for it. Good for sure, but not gamebreaking. My random playthrough Lapras with average EVs beat most of the Talonflames online lmao. But niggas act like it was Mega Rayquaza.

Honestly, with the power creep, Gale Wings should get it old ability back but only for attacking moves. Being able to priority Roost was really the main issue.

I never actually used Talonflame competitively, but I really enjoyed its presence in the meta. It was extremely strong and no other Pokemon could do the things it could, but it never felt truly unfair. Though, it's possible that that's only because there were crazy powerful Megas that did feel unfair at times and I usually had a Tyranitar on my team to hard counter Talonflame. I'd really like to see Gale Wings changed to working while above 50% HP. This would make it quite a bit better, while still not being the omnipresent threat it was back then and preventing the abuse of priority Roost.

Here’s an hot take I have: Trapping abilities should not be banned in OU. I’m gonna do that for my fangame, as Ghosts, Pokémon with Shed Shell, or Run Away (which I’m buffing to prevent trapping) can’t be trapped, pivot moves like U-Turn and Baton Pass don’t care about being trapped, Arena Trap cannot trap airborne Pokémon, and Magnet Pull only traps Steel-types. In fact, Gothitelle, Magneton/Magnezone, and Dugtrio are three examples of Pokémon whose identities are defined by their ability to trap opponents just by being on the field, and without them, they are nothing.

@@bigmonke3348 That sounds like a fun buff. Hey, I’ve come up with this ability known as Infrared Vision, which traps Fire-types, and helps find Fire-types in the wild. It kinda makes sense lorewise, as Fire-types have a high internal temperature, so they can’t really hide from something that sees using infrared light. I’m thinking of giving it to a Pokémon that’s part Water, Rock, or Ground, so it can trap and eliminate Fire-types more easily.

And speaking of Luxray, I'm thinking that I'll give it an Electric/Ice regional form. Perhaps give it actual speed, and a few new widespread Electric physical moves? I am going to have Regional Luxray have Frisk as an ability, as it makes sense that a Pokémon that can see through walls can identify the items its opponents are holding from a glance.

As far as my personal strategies go: Mimikyu! Disguise used to be a freebie turn to set up a stat boost. Swords Dance and then SWEEP! Now, with it taking 1/4 of HP, one has to be most conservative with moves. Feels like Life Orb and Wood Hammer are off the table.

I just want Aegislash to come to GO...I just want triple normal resist. Every other type for which something is immune in the main series has a triple resist in GO: Electric: Torterra, Garchomp, and Unovan Stunfisk Fighting: Gengar, Hoopa Confined (technically, although unviable), Oricorio, and Shedinja (Also unviable however it always has precisely 10 HP in GO and CAN survive a hit because of this) Poison: Gunfisk and Aggron Ground: Tropius and the army of Bug Flyers Ghost: Alolan Raticate and Obstagoon Dragon: Klefki by technicality (region exclusive for France)

How to balance these mons again to make them good but not busted: Aegislash: Keep 150 defenses but speed is 40. In blade form, its offenses only reach 140 but its speed goes back to 60. Talonflame: Make gale wings work like defeatist for priority, not being able to use its ability without full health is ridiculous. Greninja: Bring back pre-nerf protean after terastilization is gone. Tauros: Give it a move like wicked blow but stab, duh.
