when you break down hours worked versus wages paid sadly the majority of the trucking industry is paying it's drivers below minimum wage. For those that take this video as an attack on truckers you should watch the entire video i'm not putting down Truckers actually quite the opposite i'm stating your not getting paid nearly what you should be and it's a problem industry wide that really should be addressed by the Department of Labor.

I started hauling water in the ND oilfields at $23.50 an hour with overtime after 40 hours on a W2...typically about 2300-2500 a week. (I also got a housing allowance and health care coverage) I had 9 months CDL experience when I got there. I was probably the lowest paid CDL employee in the state. After getting laid off, I picked up a temp job in Alaska. It pays travel to and from there, all food and all lodging. It is anticipated I will work 80-100 hours a week, the pay is 13 an hour with overtime after 40 hours. It is also a cool job. I will never drive OTR again, I thought it absolutely sucked. For me, the ND oilfields is where I want to be.

I don't understood why truckers act like trucking is so cool, it pays good but boring and can be stressful

James Guest it’s as stressful as you make it. To me it’s been absolutely stress free for the most part from day 1 starting. 15-2000 weekly checks are nice though. That’s as a rookie driver

Truck drivers should be paid by days on the road. Not miles. $250 minimum a day.

Hey crazy bags. I ran with you during the wreaths across America gig. I was still training at Prime and going broke. At $700 a week and only driving time alone at 77 hours a week it equals out to be a little over $9 an hour. Didn't finish training and left Prime for a local job. I do miss otr but don't mind being home every night.

I have a 5 year plan. It’s just me and my wife. I want to pay my house off. Trucking seems like the only option for me. Not doing it long term just need to set myself up to pay the house off and get out.

I have been preaching this since I started driving a year ago I truly believe that pay by mile is for suckers and is an antiquated system. If you go outside of the United States you’ll find more pay by the hour as well as shorter days. The US needs to catch up.

Trucking isn't a job, it's a lifestyle buddy. 😎 You either love it or hate it. 🤷‍♂️

People like to call it a lifestyle because it sounds better than saying they are working at a dead end job They can't admit to themselves that they make less than minimum wage They want to make thier friends and family think they are big shot making good money

So of course the reason that so many people are into trucking is because they DO make about 900 a week or more. And while it is true had they been getting paid by the hour would make so much more, it is the number of hours per day that we work that brings in the money. There are very few jobs willing to work you 14 hours or 16 hours a day. I made $14/ hour and worked 40 hours a week and had a second job for $10/hour 15 hours a week could keep my head above water but had no $ for emergencies.

nice video Bags. You bring to lite stuff the normal driver doesn't look at. Even though OTR is a way of life for those that like it, it does not take away from the facts of what your saying. Even back in the 80's and 90's when I drove : pay was a big thing for company drivers , no matter who you drove for it was poor pay but I can see that outside forces still control the playing field. I do hope things get better for drivers but I kinda doubt it. The one thing that would help i think is if they all came together to accomplish something but that isn't gonna happen either. It's nice to see that your doing good in your new life and i wish you and yours the best.

Why the hell would anyone coming out of high school with two functioning brain cells get into OTR trucking these days??? Being on the road most of the year and away from family/friends. Killing yourself loading and unloading shipments. Dealing with paperwork, shifty dispatchers, not to mention law enforcement looking to make their daily quota on tickets, and or what? Medium pay from $30K to $40K per year. Yeah! I don't think so. It's no wonder most folks prefer jobs in one nearby specific location. Where at the end of the day. You go home to your family. To be brutally honest. You'd make just as much, if not more without all that back breaking labor. For example. Last year. I made over $32K working a nice, cozy, overnight security guard job literally doing nothing but sitting back, staring at cameras, and streaming videos to pass the time. At this point. No one should be surprised that positions in an industry notorious for long hours, crappy pay, and hard arduous labor is going unfulfilled.

Hi Bags stopped by to watch video. Reallymakes you think about what employers get away with. The casino buisness is the same way. They pay you minimum wage. And expect the customer to pay your wages. But dont give away the house because they cant take that loss either. They want you just to get by with what they want you to have. Oh by the way I like how your son loves pizza to.

I want to get into trucking, did my research and the numbers isn't good enough. At my current job I earn $575.00 a week (I know, what loser I am). 200 to 300 dollars more than my current pay... IDK, still on the fence with pros and cons. You have to run hard to get decent pay in OTR.
