@Vox4l I enjoy them. The whisper of tactility when gaming, the relative lightness when typing, and the moderate sound (at least with my board and keycaps). I'm sure there's less common switches that I'd enjoy slightly more, were I to search them out, but I genuinely prefer browns out of the standard MX switches and I also like the keyboard I have them in. Also for the lolz. I'm probably just a tasteless peasant!

Preference in keyboards generally do end up swaying heavily towards what "people are used to using." My first week on T1 tactiles were meh, and then they were suddenly my daily. I wonder how they'd feel after using certain switches for a full week as opposed to just "touching them a few times" and then jumping out because the water was too cold.

Hey man, I get it. It's a lot like food. Sometimes it takes tasting different ingredients and understanding the process of what goes into cooking before your palette expands enough to really appreciate and understand good food. The same goes for switches. If I put a set of Holy Pandas in front of someone, and then put down a set of Gat greens in front of them, I guarantee most of them won't appreciate the subtle and nuanced differences between those switches. But once you explain WHAT is different and what to look for, you'll slowly see the person start to "get it" on subsequent typing sessions. It also takes time. I absolutely despise Box Navies, and I am a lover of all things clicky (I prefer jades, noble yellows, pinks, etc.), but let a person type on Navies for a while and they probably won't think anything of it. Let them type on Navies for a day whilst working, and I guarantee they'll come back and ask you to pay for their rehabilitation, now that they're suffering from advanced carpal tunnel syndrome. In a blind test, like these guys, I could have a hard time discerning between different switches myself. But give me 10 minutes on each board and I could probably come pretty close to guessing each switch without much trouble.

Leaning more towards the Gats because I will be pairing them with the GMK Skeletor set, and those colors, ;crisp; But I feel like we all start with a light-weight switch, and most of us hear about " reds are best for gaming". I find that the subtleness of browns bump is ideal if you lube them (smoother) and place wasd's red o rings (the smaller ones for less noise, but not mushy) in a cherry profile keycap (better feel/lower profile). With this setup you press through the very light bump and you get the light bottom out directly after. This leads to a very fast, focused, and accurate gaming/typing experience without a unnecessarily larger bump/click.

programming on mx brown's tried different switches took me around 3 month as i gave the keyboard around a week of time to get a hang on the switch. Tried various Cherry color's (red, black, clear) tried holy panda, tried zealious. Many are saying Brown's are "linear" but to code on something like red switches is for me personally horrible i didnt knew when i pressed the button and made many mistakes. On something stronger tactile like the Panda's it happend that i sometimes didnt pressed the key fully ( i directly noticed it and could correct it compared to the red) also the "hard" actuatin point made me type slower but all in all i liked the Pandas and they had the best "sound". So why the brown's? First they are tactile its subtle but thats exactly what i need i can differentiate if i pressed the button or not i dont need much force and can type fast the sound is crappy but i wear a headset basicly all the time so i dont care and they are not loud , really dont understand why people say they are not tactile i mean you can dislike them that they are not tactile enough but literally everybody should feel the even subtle bump if they type everyday on a keyboard. btw. non native english speaker and wrote on my phone so dont hate me :P.

I'm pretty new to getting into various different types of switches myself. I recently got a board fitted with Kailh speed coppers, having never really used tactile switches before but always thinking they would be a nice fit for me. While it was in the process of being shipped to me, I ended up at a Best Buy mainly to pick up a mouse and tried out a few key switches they had set up for demo purposes as well while I was there. As I got to the MX Browns, I got a bit worried about my choice of switch for my board. Immediately I was like..."ew. god i hope all tactiles aren't this bad." Fortunately when the board came in and I tried them out I was able to breathe a sigh of relief as I really enjoy them. A couple lessons to be learned there for people in my shoes just starting out though. 1: Try out different switch types before you commit to buying (hell buy a switch tester if you can) and 2: don't judge an entire category of switches based on one particular switch.

@@DeanGlI wouldnt say they have dropped the ball but they did provide wrong information by saying linear switches need to be pressed down all the way to actuate. I have always preferred mechanical switches because I don't need to bottom out if I want to. I was watching the video of you trying Cherry MX Browns for the first time first and then came to this video. When the results drop and it shows that Browns won the tactile category I started cracking up at your reaction lol.

You should react to Linus’s video of him building a keyboard. IT HURTS to watch. He uses browns and it costs him 70 DOLLARS. He also uses these awful keycaps. It just hurts

I like your take on this - switches are like anything that can get expensive and niche - the majority of people wouldn't really know what to look for because they just don't really care, so they'd gravitate towards something like MX Browns, as you said, because they're familiar. It's kind of like: just about everyone likes cheese (grilled cheese, pizza, etc) but takes someone who REALLY likes cheese to appreciate some rank, aged, delicious cheese. Given the choice between mozzarella and a Stilton, a lot of the population would find the stilton unpalatable, but your cheese fan would love it. Same w/ something like box jades or holy pandas, I love the sound and feel but my coworkers actually prefer the stock keyboard that came with their Mac. Whatevs!

The thing is, in terms of mainstream keyboards, Cherry MX *is* the gold standard. Boutique mech keyboards are, by their very nature, niche. These rare, discontinued or highly coveted switches aren't *in* any major keyboard brands. They're not even *a* standard, let alone *the* standard. I enjoy the channel, but this vid just reminds me of a Reddit warrior, smugly decrying 'normies' for not understanding his very special vocation, on which is knowledge is masterful. Which, thinking about it, isn't that far from the truth 😂

I like browns because the light tactile bump will teach you how to not bottom out without being obnoxious.
@Hachiae4 жыл бұрын
in my opinion the reason browns are so "popular" are because most cheap keyboards use em or reps of em
@holocene54514 жыл бұрын
I guess their weight and tactility have a decent mainstream appeal, they're good for typing and gaming, not annoyingly loud but still provide tactile feedback. And like he said in the video, the scratchiness and sound are just less noticeable to people outside the custom mech rabbithole. But the fact that they are standard on so many boards probably also plays a big role...

I mean no, most of the cheap keyboards use mx blues, you can’t really get a well built board for under 50 bucks as browns, but for blues the redragon k552 is like 30 bucks or something.
@ra71m164 жыл бұрын
@@vishnuravi8910 but the 552 uses outemu blues i think?
@Hachiae4 жыл бұрын
@@vishnuravi8910 from what i found the k552 used outemu reds and K556 at $50 claims it uses browns
@holocene54514 жыл бұрын
@@vishnuravi8910 Do you mean Cherry Browns or brown switches in general? For Cherry switches I think you'd need to spend 60$ minimum for a full-size board, but I think you can probably get a board with Outemu or Gat browns for 30$ too. I didn't necessarily mean they're the most widespread switch type (reds and blues might be more common) but they're definitely within the top 3 MX/MX-style switches

Nah, it juat proves that the cherry design suck. Every one of these switches use the same kind of design as cherry mx brown and it just sucks for tactility. Even rubber domes are better.
