The 1990s was pretty well ruled by Tiger Electronics but there were a lot of other toys that were huge! Some of the toys caused some crazy battles between parents in the stores and demand drove scalpers to charge outrageous prices in the paper and on the internet. The 1990s saw some incredible toys released while at the same time kids were still enjoying many popular toys from previous decades.

My sisters and friends would tell me about all these toys they were trying to get for Christmas for their kids. I was shocked at all the competition and lines. One sister even drove 150 miles to get a toy for her son. Gee whiz!

I especially miss everything about my childhood pre-9/11 _(New Yorker then & now)_ I truly believe it wasn’t just my mind that was more innocent before it happened, this whole society seemed more innocent in a way Having my childhood defined by the war on terror _(& of course the war on drugs)_ made me feel like the kids around the same time I was born got trolled hard by life

Also born in 78. Last few decades seem to have flown by without as many (personally) monumental toy/other product markers, but I’m sure that’s not the case with people born in, say, ‘98+. Just signs we’ve gotten old, I’m sure! Ugh…

Oh Rhetty, you have reminded me of some of my wonderful mummy memories. Hasbro certainly made a lot of money from me. Here in Australia my son had most of these things, Super Soaker, Power Rangers figurines, Toy Story figures, every gaming console that came out, year after year. He even had 2 of the games that you showed NHL 98 ice hockey and crash bandicoot. Pokémon everything, I still have his original Pokémon handbook. The other thing he was crazy about was world wrestling federation, I still have all of his wrestling figurines and wrestling bag that I keep them in. There are so many of them, I can’t seem to part with them. Some of the wrestlers are no longer living. A lot of the other toys, my daughter had Tickle me Elmo, Furby, Littlest Pet Shop etc but she was born 12 years after him. Thanks Rhetty ❤️Jodie 🇦🇺

Thank you for watching and sharing your memories Jodie! Sounds like your kids had a wonderful childhood. Thqt WWF and WWE was big in the 80s and 90s but I didn't realize it went outside of the U.S. and Canada so that is interesting. I guess it was far bigger than I realized. You're a good Mom keeping all that and they will appreciate that at some point. So many mothers seem to throw them out, give them away or sell them. Whatever you do definitely do not ever sell them in a yard sale. I'm sure you have some valuable toys from the sound of it. But really I know that doesn't replace the sentimental value.

@@RhettyforHistory The wrestling has always been big here, and is still showing on the t.v here to this day, (I just don’t watch it anymore). Over the years they have even brought the show on the road out to Australia. I was once into it a little myself, I can’t remember the year it was (maybe 1986) I went to watch it because my favourite (tiger mask) was coming to wrestle and I didn’t even have to travel 1 1/2 hours to Sydney because they came here to Wollongong. The Wollongong entertainment centre wasn’t built until 1998, but they came to the home of the Illawarra Hawks basketball centre (they wouldn’t play it there today) to many people here now. NOW funny story here Rhetty, my mum told me her parents both loved the wrestling and when my mum was young (she was born 1946) they went to see a show in Sydney, so might have been late 50s early 60s. My nana was in the seat right next to the aisle and Killer Kowalski came out, as he walked passed her, she went to hit him in the head and her family had to stop her 😂. So I guess it’s no surprise after all that my son used to be a huge fan as kid. We seem to get a lot of what you have over there, over here shows, toys etc. Hope you enjoyed the story, I know I did when my mum told me. Bye 👋 for now.

there were this thing called screamers, i think, and it was like a spooky character such as a mummy or werewolf, which would have this ball thingy in them so when you would squeeze them their eye ball would pop out, or chest, or whatever their gimmick was. they were insanely cool and i remember being such a simp as a kid for them lmao. I liked the mummy and the scream one, which had this red glitter ball in it's mouth that looked like blood

Loved the Power Rangers movies! Had a lot of these (yard sales and the second hand store provided!) but I had a new bop it! Had a knock off tamagotchi from the Bi Way, cried when it died. Had so many beanie babies, still have kept a few! Furby scared me! I hated them. Wonder where all those tickle me Elmo’s went?? And Pogs!! I had sooo many tubes of them! My most prized ones were the goosebumps collection ❤ I remember getting supernes for my 6th Christmas along with the nightmare before Christmas vhs (best Christmas ever!) super Mario world, earthworm Jim, super Mario rpg and Kirby’s avalanche were my favourites! We had a lot of corporate created fun!

@@RhettyforHistory im afraid those days are gone but I still have my 1st barbie doll and Shirley temple doll. They are a lot of dolls I collected as a child and I have each and every doll in an air tight case. This collection is no doubt collectors items but I can't put a price on the childhood memories. I have a lovely bride doll encased as well this was a gift to me from my dad and gave it to me the day before he died. It is not likely I will ever part with that doll she is life size. My dad has been gone for 60 years so the doll is quite old. It will never be taken out of the case she is in

I was born in 89 and my brothers in 87. I had the black ranger toy and they had the blue and red ranger. For some reason, I used to throw mine high into the air. I didn’t think about an unused wood stove we had in the middle of our backyard we never used. One day. I whipped it into the air and it exploded on the stove! I hated back then that it got destroyed and definitely hate it now. I could’ve still been flipping the head back and forth 😭

I had no idea they had pogs in the US in those days, over here in Mexico we had them and we played in the same way, they were almost as popular as marbles and were collectible. They were only distributed mainly in popular potato chips and cookie packages with the most recent cartoons or super heroes printed on them depending the year....lol, kids were frightened of them for some time after a scary myth spread, even on the news they mentioned it once: they were cursed and if you cut one in half they would bleed,...lol, I remember those rumors! XD
