I'm really confused why you claim the CFM drops when using a nozzle. I'm no physics major, but the fan isn't moving any less air when the nozzle is on or off. The fan controls CFM. When you put the nozzle on, it forces the same amount of air out of a smaller opening. The only way to get that same volume of air out per second is to travel faster hence the increase in MPH. The trade off isn't CFM, it's the smaller cross sectional area of that faster air on the leaves.

@GraphixJunkie
@GraphixJunkie 3 жыл бұрын
@@Kitearmy I am genuinely curious about this... From what I can learn about it, the principal defines changes in fluid pressure as velocity changes in a constant flow. I'm not seeing anything about changes to fluid volume or volume per unit of time. If you know of a good link explaining this type of situation, I'd enjoy looking at it. Thanks

Well, I found an image on one of Ryobi's fans showing the MPH decreasing and the CFM increasing as you cut off more and more of that tip. I can't wrap my head around it, but you were right. Please ignore my comment above!
@Kitearmy
@Kitearmy 3 жыл бұрын
@@GraphixJunkie That is very kind of you to follow up - the twist here is that as you restrict the flow the resistance increases and in this case this causes the cfm to drop. BTW this thread won comment of the month!

I was looking for a lightweight blower for my deck. kzbin.infoUgkxgioZQl3J5wPGAeDINzbieKbT5qomSEx3 There are some huge trees around my house and the leaves and pods drop all over my deck. Having to move furniture around to sweep has become too big a chore. This blower was the answer. It is light enough for this 70yr old lady and powerful enough to blow all the tree droppings off my rather large deck. Thank you B&D. Be aware the cord is not included. I use a 3 prong outdoor cord 25' cord for my 12' x 20' deck. The cord retainer works very well, but don't try to pass the plug through it. That is NOT how it works. You just have to loop the cord and it works great. One of my best purchases. Very happy.

I have the older 550cfm 40v blower...it only takes, at most, 2 minutes to blow off the average driveway/walkways. I can usually blow off 4 driveways, maybe 5 per charge. If you think you can use a battery powered leaf blow to blow off your yard, you're smoking something strong. These are for driveways and walkways...and they are great for that. A homeowner will be able to blow of his driveway, walkways or patio each week for a month on one charge. I use mine for a small lawn care business...usually drain a pack per day. Much easier than messing with gas and having to start one each time I need to blow off a driveway at the end of the mow.

I was very reluctant to get this, but after reading many reviews, this suited my needs perfectly. I only bought the tool as I already had a few batteries ( 6amp hr). This was ample for my large backyard with 2 birch trees carpeting my yard. I am happy to keep it & use it without issue. Oh btw I didn’t use turbo, but used the smaller nozzle.

I just bought one of these also, and I think it's just great! No more getting the extension chord out, unwinding it, and pulling the electrical chord around everywhere, and only having one speed (either off or on). My old electric leaf blower had plenty of power, but was such a pain to use that I rarely used it. This new Ryobi I got solves that problem. It's super convenient to use, has more than enough power, and for me it lasts a long time on a charge (several uses of blowing off the driveway, front and back porch, and my garage). I don't put it on turbo and leave it there, it's not necessary. The variable speed trigger makes it very useful and I don't need full power most of the time anyway. Great product!

I just purchased this today at Home Depot, used already, and it seems to work great for me. With over 1,000 5-star reviews and under 50 1-star reviews that was good enough for me to buy this. But at the same time, I don't have leaves in my yard, just grass shred debris after using weed eater, and I just got rid of my trees completely. And I don't think I'll be using this over 7 minutes for my tiny yard and entire property. It was just the fact I thought for 260.00 you can't beat the price considering it already comes with 2 batteries AND the charger when most of these blowers don't come with ANY batteries and almost the same price. My only gripe about my property is when the city doesn't tend to business and clean up the walking trail with trees across the street from me causing wind to blow directly to my yard and I need to use the blower for the city's messes! I should charge them for their laziness. Usually I just blow them right back to the walking trail. But I appreciate the video. Thanks for posting and sharing. Enjoy your week Sir.

Ryobi indicates in their packaging Up to 30 minutes of runtime with (2) included 40V 4Ah batteries. They also mentioned that in Turbo mode the time decreases. Therefore your 7 minutes in turbo are due to that.

Another good video, however Why not test run time without the turbo mode, understanding everyone fuges numbers, let’s see if you could get two hours on low using both batteries like the commercial says. If you look at the commercial, the top left corner says using 2x4ah batteries. Honestly we both know you won’t get two hours but I think you will get 45-50 minutes on low between the two batteries. I love the dream of going wireless but this is just like electric cars, 265 mile range is about 160 miles when you own one.. hahaha

I really enjoyed the fan and straw demonstrations. Fun way to explain things! Marketing hype aside, I think the Ryobi 730 might be a better choice than the Ego 650 for the suburban home owner. I’m basing this on the numbers I see over at Pro Tool Reviews. According to their measurements the Ryobi is much quieter than the Ego - 76db compared to 88db in turbo mode. If that’s accurate the Ryobi really doesn’t require hearing protection. They're equally powerful. They measured the force in Newtons as both slightly over 11N on high. On turbo they are both slightly over 20N. You can tweak it a bit by cutting the nozzle on the Ryobi or putting the 7.5 Ah battery on the Ego, but there’s not really that much difference. They measured the runtime of the Ryobi at over 10 minutes on turbo and a little over 15 on high. The Ego measured over 16 minutes on turbo and over 27 on high. But, the Ryobi has two batteries. BTW, I’m intrigued that you measured a little over 7 minutes on turbo with the Ryobi instead of the 10+ over at Pro Tool Reviews. Could position of the blower make a difference? What happens if you run it the horizontal position? If you have a huge property and really need POWER AND RUN-TIME a gas backpack blower in the $550 to $700 range from Echo, Stihl, or Redmax can push out 40N or more and run for a really long time with a gallon of mixed gas. That sounds expensive, but an Ego 650 plus a spare 5ah battery is around $550 and is nowhere close to the power of these gas backpack units. For me the main advantage of battery OPE is the low noise level. I have plenty of 2 strokes for certain demanding tasks, but I am always looking to reduce noise if possible. The Ego string trimmer I have is spectacular in the performance and quiet department. It’s a game changer. If the Ryobi 730 blower is actually kicking out 20N at 76db that’s a game changer, too. I'd love to see you take some measurements and compare them against what Pro Tool Reviews found. Thanks for the fun video! Pro Tool Reviews and some others I've seen are definitely more of a fair and unbiased comparison than this kite army video. It is very obvious that kite army is heavily biased towards the ego and doesn't apply the same standards to ego as he does to Ryobi. Never did I see Ryobi claim that the 190mph will be reachable at the same time as the 730cfm, however kite army insinuates that Ryobi is making that claim and Ego is not. ALL blower manufacturers, including Ego, state both CFM & MPH stats on their boxes in an attempt to fool the unknowing consumer. So as far as "lying", the same could be said for Ego in a fair and unbiased review. I've also noticed that kite army tests Ryobi and Ego on "turbo", which is not apples to apples. The Ryobi moves more air in its turbo mode than Ego, so the Ryobi is actually doing more work than the Ego and also needs less time to move the same volume of debris. Also, with kite army's bias, how can the viewer trust him? The viewer has no way of knowing if kite army is actually giving competitors "Fully and Properly Charged Batteries"! Most battery indicators still show full LED bars, even if they have not been cycled properly or if they've been used briefly prior to the testing. That is something that is VERY EASILY faked or hidden in videos. This may explain why other reviews have better outcomes in the favor of Ego's competitors. I admit that the Ego 56 volt system may have a little better runtime than the Ryobi, but kite army makes sure that the negatives are exaggerated on the Ryobi and true "apples to apples" workload is discounted or hidden in Ego's favor. Ryobi's 730 CFM is bad-a$$!! Typically only between 300-500 CFM is more than enough to do any job, which would make the Ryobi batteries last considerably longer, but it's nice to hit the Turbo and get the 730 CFM for stubborn spots...like damp debris!! I'm not saying Ego has a bad product. I will also admit that if I wasn't already so deep into Ryobi 40-Volt equipment that I may have considered the Ego. But it is important to make sure the same standards and workloads applied between the candidates are clearly defined for true, unbiased testing 😉
@Kitearmy
@Kitearmy 3 жыл бұрын
@@eyemright I appreciate your comment - I am biased and have never said otherwise. That bias comes from more testing of battery tools than most will do in 1000 lives. However, that does not mean I alter my tests and video outcomes to favor 1 or the other. I just want the BEST. Next point - Ryobi says on the box 730cfm 190mph - Them not me - most customers will believe that is the true power and in truth they are playing around with nozzles to get those measurements. Next point - 14 min run time - you test it and let me know (maybe you will get 15) but Ryobi said - 2 hours. Tell me what speed did they run that test at - what a JOKE. Thanks I appreciate your comment and support :)

@@Kitearmy on Ryobi’s box it shows 730cfm/190mph. That is no lie, it is capable of both. It does not say “simultaneously”. If that were the claim, it would state 730cfm @ 190mph. Ego has the same advertising on its box, except the stats are not displayed connected like Ryobi’s. Your tactics in skewing results are deceptive and therefore you are just as untrustworthy as the equipment marketers.

The review seems a little skewed against this blower. For one to get 2hrs from what they're saying they would have meant using the two batteries included on low setting. That's like saying if I buy a car that gets 30mpg but complain that I'm getting lower mpg because I drive harder and faster but expect the same result. Another note is that you used a beach ball for the larger test with multiple blowers then a heavier volleyball for this teest. As for the back end eating clothes? Really? Even in the video where you're using the blower at your side without any issues and any blower that needs to suck in that much air would have a similar issue if you awkwardly stand right in front of them. I was looking forward to this review but it seemed like you were against the blower from the get go.

How long does it run when the turbo button isn't used??? How does it perform in actual use compared to other Ryobi 40V blowers? Focussing on claims vs reality is not very helpful for people trying to decide what blower to buy. However with my 530 Ego CFM blower I get really good run times with a 5.0ah and 7.5 ah batteries, just nowhere close to what they claim especially on a 2.5 ah battery.

Mmmm……not very objective, if you ask me. Every blower with different nozzles vary between CFM and MPH. His beloved Ego 650 CFM has double the runtime compared to the Ryobi 730…….duhhh: it has a twice as powerful battery! To be fair: the two battery’s that come with the Ryobi together match the runtime from the EGO. You want to carry one big (heavy) battery or one lighter one while the other one is in the charger? And EGO also brags with 90+ min of runtime on the promo-video while it lasts ‘only’ 15 min in turbo. Both have pro’s and conn’s, but to put the EGO way above the Ryobi seems a bit unfair to me.

Another good video, and I appreciate you pointing out the "real" runtime of these tools compared to the marketing run times listed. However, as a person who has already bought into the Ryobi line of tools, I consider that a 2 pack of Ryobi 40v 4Ah batteries currently sells for $278 and a charger costs another $55.00. That totals $333.00 if bought separately, whereas this leaf blower package deal currently sells for $329 with the blower, 2 batteries, and charger. That makes this package a really sweet deal if you need/want extra batteries for your other Ryobi 40v tools. You essentially get the blower for free if you needed to buy new batteries anyway. About every 3 years I look for package deals like this to refresh my aging battery supply while adding a new tool to my Ryobi line.

Why didn't you review without turbo on? That's like saying a car doesn't get the stated mpg if you're at full throttle esp for turbo cars. Another example, I have an electric skateboard that's rated for 15 miles on a full battery but with turbo mode constantly on, it gets much less. Ryobi (pronounced RE-obi) doesn't claim 2 hrs at full throttle on turbo mode. That's why they say "up to" bc you can probably get up to two hours on lower speeds.

Good review honestly, but, you can't fight fire with fire.... meaning, if Ryobi made some bogus claims, you did as well. It should be very obvious that the 2 hr runtime would be on lowest speed. They may be fudging that as well but all brands of battery leaf blowers all list the runtime as lowest speed, unless it claims other wise which typically is avg runtime. 7min per battery on turbo seems disappointing, however, if it were to use 5ah battery like others we may see close to 10min runtimes which is pretty avg. Take for example the Greenworks 60v 610cfm blower, it comes with only a 2.5ah battery and typically hits less than 5min on turbo. Seems many brands push about 2-3 min of runtime per battery amp hour on their turbo settings. EGO being the better end of about 3min per aH, the EGO 650cfm from what I read pushes about 15min of runtime for a 5ah battery, pretty nice.

But….I’ve watched several other of your videos, all of which use lightweight beach balls. In this review you used a VERY heavy ball (in comparison)…looks like a volleyball. This created a situation that made the blower appear weaker than it probably is. You admit to owning and using a line of Ego equipment, and they may have the best blower…I just honestly don’t know. I like the review, however, when you state that it's important to have power and runtime, it's not fair to say that the blower sucks for that reason alone. We all know that using a battery operated tool of any sort comes with the sacrifice of runtime, and in some instances (not in every instance) power as well. If you compare apples to apples, any manufacture's product in this line will also suffer the same problems as this blower does. Does that make this blower worthless, not by any means. The better view point would be the intended use of the tool. If you are using it to clear out parking lots, probably not a good choice. If the intended use is for your yard, then this would be a go to tool. I own this exact model, and I have been able to start and finish the entire yard job with just one battery. And this blower beats the competition hands down.

Tests only work or are meaningful when the metrics are common among subjects. Maybe the your result was not as good as other blowers, I couldn't know because you didn't compare it to other blowers, you compared it to the best case rating of "up to 2 hours". 2 hours is definitely not on turbo....you really think any company rates their battery capacity at full current draw!? Your cars are rated at certain mpg....so lets say you run your car floored and get 1/10 the rated mpg and you would complain and not understand why it got less?
@Kitearmy
@Kitearmy 3 жыл бұрын
Well here is an interesting bit of news - I just looked at how MPG was determined - turns out that they are done at 80mph (faster than I normally drive) - SO yes I would complain :)

For this guy the only product good are Ego but they're super liars also on every product they make and Ego customer service the worst they never answer their phone when you need support for warranty claim at least with Ryobi you got support..all companies lie about their products.

Guess I'll keep using my old 1st gen 480cfm EGO blower to dry the truck and my Redmax EBZ8500 for anything else. Yes I tried drying the truck with the Redmax. The Redmax ripped the license plate off the truck at full throttle. The screws were still in the fasteners and the plate.

Yeah - if this ran longer it would be perfect for drying the truck

Amazing how your reply back to me was everyone uses it on turbo amazing how you assume you assume you know how all your subscribers use their equipment if you don't know the answer to my question simply just say you don't know. Don't waste your time replying back with something that you said in the video already. I know it's 10 minutes on turbo that wasn't my question and you know that

Hate to burst your bubble but that blower got it's ass handed to it by the older allegedly weaker ryobi ry40404 backpack blower. It's runtime was better but it can't move as many leaves or match the same volume of air as the older model. Time and time again the old backpack wins every comparison.

Shirt gets sucked into it? What? Who holds a blower that way anyway? Hold it to the side, normally, and that won't happen. And that box fan has a design flaw too, my fingers keep getting broken when I stick them in there, oh no! haha

1 what’s up with the copy right strike. 2 u need to compare ego and crapobi in a head to head test 3 why would they design it to be cut off for lower mph. If u ever wanted to step up the mph u wouldn’t be able to. Stupid shit 🙄🙄🙄 but seriously.. we need a comparison of ego and crapobi lol
