Hey dude. A lot of great engineering and time going into this. Its really cool. However …. please don’t use those printed plastic joiners to hold your ribs to the chassis plate. I would almost guarantee they won’t be strong enough. The threads are inserted from the same side as the piece they are secured to by the look of it, so they can pull out. You would be much better off getting some aluminium 90deg angle (it’s a stock extruded material). You could drill and tap the angle to bolt it together or drill right through and bolt through. Seriously, it would be a much stronger solution. At 200mph the pressure in the body will be huge. I wouldn’t be surprised if that alone ripped it apart. Good luck mate 👍 look forward to seeing it run.

@@ThomasPCGuruENGINES that’s a good point about the flat bottom. Potentially used correctly though it could produce a suction onto the road. But yes if air gets under it, its game over man. I just don’t want to see all this work fall apart around the chassis 😊.

@@dries-pederjanse6249 I fully disagree with that but we are all entitled to our opinions. I just don’t want to see all his heard work fall apart. A printed part with a thread hot inserted into it on such a joint really isn’t very good. I’m sure the fact he could draw it and print it nice and accurately was the most appealing part of the decision to do it that way, but for the structural integrity of the chassis I’m afraid it needs more work put into it than that.

So, you have a few options for wheels: something similar to the Bloodhound SSC, which are solid aluminium-zinc alloy disks, which can deal with 10 200 RPM. You could coat the rims with latex or something to give it something akin to tyres. You could also do foam based stuff (as some other people have suggested), which could deal with the heat really well due to the air pockets, but they might have too much give. Personally, if I was making this, I'd do aluminium disk for the main wheel, with layers of rubber and foam. But I don't know how that'd be made. But hey, experiment and have some fun! For all I know what I've just said is utterly useless and can't be done.

You need to watch Raz Shifren, he uses an airfield and "perfect pass" software to get battery powered brushless motors to over 200mph. Beware your Thrust 2 mega machine are capable of breaking legs and ankles as they lose control at high speeds. Raz develops his own components and if you got in touch might impart some valuable information. From what I gather the speeds a few guys are trying to reach are at such a stage dependant upon very small but essential margins and settings. He would love to see your work. Respect

Hi - nice project. I have a wind tunnel at home that I used to design my full-size Le Mans sportscar. The tunnel takes 1/10th scale models (10%) and runs at up to about 100mph or so, scale speed. Our camera shoots at 11 frames per second and, at the moment, I only measure drag and do flow visualisation tests - smoke and cotton tufts mainly. It's a fixed floor tunnel but I may upgrade to a moving floor next winter. The 'sting' and sensors could be also be upgraded to measure centre-of-pressure movement, downforce and general stability. You are welcome to use it. I live in the North Wiltshire area. You could also consider using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). Once very expensive but, nowadays becoming more affordable....

Please Check the distance between the tail cone of the Turbine and entry of the Thrust Tube as this will make a significant difference to this project!! There is a very specific Sweet Spot for this that gives the maximum thrust and lowest thrust tube heating. Many people measure the thrust of this setup and change the distance to get different readings to find the best gap (sometimes the tail cone overlaps the thrust tube also. There is more information on this in the last pages of the Jet Cat catalog. This will make a significant difference to this project!!!

I was thinking that some ground effect would help with the floor stability, then I thought about bottoming out and porpoising or bouncing at high loads at speed, some stiffer suspension would help this and I think would help the car without ground effect. Some C cups on the springs is a simple way of doing that (I think you know about this anyway with your experience). Drag is also a concern with ground effect too but would be less than traditional wings. This is quite interesting to me to get thinking about this, I'm an engineering student and one of my projects was building an rc f1 car with aerodynamics incorporated so I can't wait to see this progress.

Watching it straining the rope at full thrust took me back to being a teenager at Santa pod in the late 70's The first of the twin jet cars (unpainted so I don't know which 1 it was) was being ' tested" in the right hand lane behind the start line at Santa pod. It was physically chained to the base of what would become the control tower over the start area. Anyway, my father was race director at the time and we spent every weekend at the pod, race or no race, so I witnessed Allan herridge stood on the seat of the car, facing the rear while using 1 hand on the throttle, the noise and trust got higher and higher Then with almost no drama it broke its chain and off it went with Allan still stood in it Fortunately Allan was only small and had driven everything from a road car to a top fuel funny car and dragster, so he turned round, slid into the seat and turned it off. When we got to were he stopped he had a big smile on his face and obviously enjoyed the drama and drive.

The way you set that engine in the tube, is actually smart, not only will it bring in cool outside to cool that pipe, but said cool air will provide further thrust allowing you to gain more output than the engine alone, In the US in the mid to late 1990's they did a similar thing to the exhaust zoomies to drag outside air to make even more downforce than the typical exhaust pipes wound. it was even shown to pull something through the pipe (A rag I think) and shoot it like 50 ft. into the air at one race. Not sure if this was the intention by you, but very smart

Diffusers? Front & Rear? Basically smaller find like you have on each side topside, but attached to the underside. This can make the air beneath your car flow smoothly instead of just a lot of chaos. This reduces drag, the first law of thermodynamics is friction and drag is friction of the air against your car. You can reduce this drag by setting some diffusers. Forgive me if you have already done this. I hope you break the record! I'm positive you will ! Good 🤞 Luck!!!!!!!!

Such a dope project! I sincerely hope your car hits 200 miles! Honestly, like all past legends and absolute genius masterminds, the ideology lives on, Not Fast Enough :)

Damn! That's amazing! Have you considered making it even faster by modelling it by the Bloodhound SSC instead of the Thrust SSC? Can't wait for the next episode!

It's modelled on the even older Thrust 2, not Thrust SSC.

This is looking fantastic! Hoping great success. When it comes to highspeed RC getting enough grunt and making it strong always seem like the most fulfilling part of the design. It gets more tricky like you mention killing lift, and ensuring at whatever attitude these very fast cars don’t become very fast planes. Its interesting how Arma’s body design handles lift pretty well with its reflexed shape, I wonder if their guys could offer some data!

I noticed that the real Thrust2 you modelled your car after has a bottom that raises up slightly infront of the rear wheels. I assume this is to suck the rear end of the car down through expanding the air under the car, creating low pressure. This would make the car more stable as the rear wheels get more traction. You may want to replicate this on your car for more stability.

Amazing build, can't wait to see what it can do. I think there are much better options for range instead of spektrum.
