For future reference…when you click on the subs sonar that is activating active suite. If at all possible, avoid doing that. It’s like turning on a flashlight in a dark room. Everyone can see you, from miles away. But you can only see in the direction your light is facing, and not that far.

I think when you turned on your subs active sonar at 4:20 I died a bit inside. Good way to shout to the world that you have a sub operating. Active sonar can be detected between 2x and 3x farther than its effective range. For sonar, everything is going to pretty much rely on passive, especially with the sophisticated towed arrays ships get around this time. The only reliable exception will be ASW helicopters using active dipping sonar.

Yeah the only reason why you'd use active sonar is to ping the contact just before your torps arrive so as to update the firing solution. It's an option although in reality, no half decent SS/SSN commander would chose to do that. Modern day fibreoptic guided torps such as Spearfish simply don't need it

@@NitroaereusActive sonar has civilian uses such as echo sounding which is essentially measuring the distance between you and the sea bed. In terms of military use (i.e. SSN's), It's mainly used for mine detection and navigating tight areas of the ocean but even this is rare as other assets will usually do that along with layering the fleet so as to form a ring of defence using ASW helicopters , ASW frigates, ASW aircraft etc. The active sonar is just there in case it comes in handy so to speak i.e. the SSN is solo and needs it

@@Nitroaereus A case where you might need to use it is that the enemy knows exactly where you are and you don't know where they are. Another might be you are massively outmatched in terms of stealth and listening so active sonar would level the field by potentially revealing everyone. It can also be used as a peace time weapon, active sonar is very loud. In a situation where no one can fire at each other they can instead be very loud and annoying.

Whoo. There's a lot to keep track of, in this game. You'd almost want to have a checklist of things to always do at the start ("light up RADAR all ships..."), so you could just focus on the real-time fighting.

The game gives a lot of tools to help with the micro. A lot of stuff relating to unit behavior can be changed through the side doctrine settings for all units and a lot of things like patrols or strikes can be handled automatically through missions. Lighting up Radars on surface ships is generally a bad thing to do at the start of the game though. Gives their position away.

It's more than that. I played it once before my laptop died. It is realistic beyond belief. So much so that they have a pro version specifically for defense contractor use that has actual data for stuff like the F-22

It's more of a MilSim than an RTS. It does the Naval and Air very well. The ground is serviceable but very abstract.

@@hphp31416 Yeah there was a fair bit of scripting in Harpoon, it still stands this game is just an evolution of the same thing but at its core its not very different. Harpoon ANW simulated the same things in the same way. Like Aim 7x losing track if you turned away, Walleyes going crazy if you didn't keep targets lit and so on .. and the combined air assets, sub assets and surface All worked together. It provided a lot of insight into formation weaknesses too & the importance of AEW and EW... take those assets out and it becomes a lot harder to defend, or use them offensively and your attacks are a lot more effective. I recall EW/AEW Helos could also act as decoys by increasing their signature and spoofing missiles. It was very very detailed for its time . This game is just a modernized version.

I am pretty sure that ASW means anti sub warfare and ASuW is anti surface? Which is probably why your flights on an ASW mission did not engage? Also why did you not target the islands runways and sensors?

Well, you need to brush up on your tactics when a Norwegian Civie with no military experience has you beat. Do EMCON on offensive operations and on approach. For Patrol have one on active and rest on passive. Always have EW and keep a few nearby on EMCON just to not tip your full hand. As for torpedoes, they're good, really good. The only thing you can do, is face away and FLANK speed as they don't have as much gas as a ship or sub.

Yep I can confirm this is definatly not the way to play this game! 🤣 But very entertaining none the less :) - ASW (Is Anti Submarine Warfare) so you assigned the wrong missions type for planes with anti-ship missiles (Needed to use ASuW) for surface ships, easily done though. - using x15 time compression (while appreciate didn't want to make a long vid is never gonna allow you plan, move, counter the live sittuation. - Never use active sonar on subs it gives away there position - subs only use passive and active is a last resort No planning (often a mistake we all do) and some scenarios don't have all best mix forces needed. - No (CAP) air cover over fleet until way to late - No escort of Anti Air planes to cover the strike mission package (most air packages will have anti-ECM+Anti Air to fly ahead & protect/Jam of any bomber/missile strike package. - Your ships didn't fire at the end as they had run out of weapons and ammo! The "Nights of Ni" attack there I see 🤣 The Admirality official statement to the familes of the dead pilots and sailers was "It was a good run, it is what it is" 🤦‍♂ This game is super complex and hard and more a sim than game, but can be fun to try missions many times to improve outcomes. It has a huge database and can be fun to just read up on weapon types but that's not fun to watch of course - I've sent many to the bottom of the sea myself. Can we get an 'F' for those lost in battle❤ I enjoyed it a lot, thanx.

Originally purchased at 50 + 1 x $20 dlc (chains of war) so $70 bucks in before forcing all the dlc to base game and charging again to remain updated. That is before Tacview. As I said, I really liked the game before this forced update. Niche game or not, just bad taste. Sorry you think it's a justified change. Maybe EA can take a note here. Sell a $70 game, $25 dollar dlcs and towards the end of the product cycle put it all in one package and resell. Wait.. That's GOTY packages which are cheaper......

Anyone who has purchased CMANO can still download it right now (either on MG or Steam) and continue playing it, together with any DLCs purchased for it as well as the last free community scen pack released for it (v41). Nobody is putting a gun to your head to get CMO. Now if you say "But I need to get it in order to get all the changes & additions and play the new DLCs and community scenarios" that's an entirely different matter, that's a choice you yourself make and it's for you to decide whether it's worth it. You can stay with CMANO for as long as you like (or at least as long as your installed OS supports it). But to claim you are somehow being forced to upgrade is a false argument. CMANO had a great run, and we supported it with free MAJOR updates (stuff that would easily justify 2-3 brand-new releases) for almost 7 years ( command.matrixgames.com/?page_id=3922 , last official update released March 2020). Think EA does this? Think again.

I'm on Disability and spending money for me is VERY important to make sure I'm getting a very good strategy game that won't get old and boring after a few weeks of gameplay. This is a complete armed forces scenario / operation planning program. It's actually so realistic the Dept of Defense has started using it as well. It's got a learning curve (but it comes with PDF manuals). I just started today myself & this is what I always wanted to do, so like anything else, the more it interests you the easier it is to learn. But yeah, you can literally control & plan even satellites!

Just a nitpick, but why do people pronounce Su-27, Su-30 and so on as "S-U" instead of "Su" (as in "Sue")? It's not an acronym, it's short for "Sukoi". It's like calling your friend Joseph "J-O" instead of "Jo".

Good evening I have some questions if possible please. I’m looking into this game but would like to confirm some things. I want a challenge when it comes to ASW, I want to set my force up and have execute active operations against the submarine. But I want the submarine to intercept these active transmissions and look to evade. Can you configure the submarines settings so the AI recognises when active sonar is detected and automatically take action to evade. The second part of the question can you edit the range of intercept to cover various military sonars like Hull mounted, LFAS or sonar buoys. Thank you for your time.

This is a known bug and is due to background software running, I forgot which software maybe it was LG or Corsair but close the software you have running in the taskbar and that'll fix it

I've played the first two games to the point of stupidity, but have to admit that I got a bit overwhelmed by the third game. The functionality of the third game is kind of like the game series Caesar in many ways, but on steroids. I found the switching between perspectives to be a bit confusing and tiresome after a while, so I gave up. I probably should give it another chance, 'cause it wasn't a bad game per se. -----
