My daughter had a 1997 Corolla and she drove it for six years with minimal maintenance. Even the AC still worked after it was 20 years old. Too bad she crashed it into the back of a pickup, or she would probably still have it. Even after that collision, it was still driveable. We put the hood on the driveway, stomped it flat and then put it back on.

Based on my personal experience, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TOYOTA’s 4.0 V6 and Mazda’s 2.5 V4 skyactiv engines. They are both naturally aspirated. Both of my vehicles, my 2013 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 TRD OFF-ROAD and my 2015 Mazda 6 Grand Touring are powered by these engines respectively and I have NEVER had any issues with them and they are still running strong. I am pretty convinced I can drive both vehicles half a million miles!

Right on! The engines mentioned are so bulletproof - in our family, we have 3 Toyota Corollas. The oldest is a 2003 version. Besides regular maintenance, the replacement of a starter, otherwise everything is original. One Camry hybrid for 10 years - it only requires regular oil change. They are a testament to the solid built quality of Toyota's products.

Back in 2021 I bought a 2008 Honda Civic 4 cylinder 1.8L from a friend. He had been using to make his 160 mile daily commute (80 miles each way). When I bought it, it had 335,000 miles on it. I have put 70,000 more miles on it in the past three years. It now has almost 410,000 miles on it. Replaced a starter, radiator, and transmission fluid sensor. Other than that, just tires and brakes.

Jesus Chris man. Yeah the R18A1 inside the 8th gen civic is absolutely bulletproof if you maintain it correctly. Or sometimes even if you barely maintain it, it will still be bulletproof. Mines a 2010 civic lx and i got 119,005 miles on mine. An im planning on keeping it forever, so it’s awesome to hear your story that you got 400k on yours 😂. Its sad that they don’t mention our engine in this video cause the R series engine is insanely reliable. You can also rip on it like crazy and its still just starts up every day lol theres a guy on youtube who hit 1 million on his R18, then a couple other guys who hit 500 grand

all 10 are Japanese designed engines & over the decades I've owned 2 Honda's 2 Toyota's & now a Mazda CX5 & all had excellent trouble free engines. I sold my Camry with 320,000 miles & it was still going strong. My CX5 was built in Japan & it's an excellent vehicle in fit, handling & engine/transmission etc.

I had a Honda for a long time, now I have a Toyota. I am pretty sure my Toyota gives me less problems than Honda. Honda was more fun to drive, though, very dynamic. But from my experience, Honda is behind Toyota when it comes to reliability.

I think that the supposed turbo issue comes down to owners not knowing how to take care of a turbo. Use premium grade gasoline, full synthetic oil, a minute of run time before driving and a minute of cool-down time before turning it off.

My 11 Rav 4WD Limited had the 3.5L V6. It was Extremely reliable. My 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road has the same 3.5L V6. I purposefully bought my 23 Tacoma because I was wanting to get the last of the 3.5L, as I heard that Toyota was dropping the 3.5 and replacing it with the 2.4L Turbo. Screw that. Historically a Naturally Aspirated engine lasts longer than a Turbo.

I wouldn't buy a V6 twin turbo from anyone - AT ALL. Toyota has had a number of 'new' trucks with engines grenading after 60,000 miles with the V6 twin turbo engines. I can't imagine any of them lasting 200,000 miles, never mind 300,000 or more. Also, 'The Car Care Nut' goes in to a somewhat lengthy explanation of how the 'aluminum block' Land Cruisers V8s are failing at 200k (head gasket issues) - and the engine is nearly unrepairable - but the old 'iron block' Land Cruiser V8s are lasting 500k miles or more.

When I found out that Toyota was dropping the 3.5L Naturally Aspirated (NA) V6 in their redesigned 24 Tacoma and dropping in a 4cyl Turbo, I started looking for a new 23 TRD Off Road, double cab, 6’ bed with the Premium and Technology pkgs in White, Barcelona Red or Lunar Rock. 23 came and went and I wasn’t able to find what I was looking for. I finally found Exactly what I was looking for on 2/29/24. It was a new 23 “Leftover”. The dealership was wanting to sell it so they dropped the price by almost $4K off the MSRP. They also gave us (me) a Tri-Fold tonneau cover, running boards, lifetime oil changes, tire rotation, car care kit, and an 8 year 75K mile bumper to bumper warranty. It also came with the TRD Performance exhaust system. I installed a cold air intake and the OTT. I Love my truck and it was worth the wait. I only drive 8-10K miles per year since I retired and I’m quite sure that I’ll drive my Tacoma until my death. I’m quite sure that my wife will still be using it to plow the 5-7 feet of snow off our private road during the winter months until she too dies. Toyota recommends to change the oil every 10K miles but I’m Old School and change it every 5K miles, so I’ll have to pay for every other oil change.

I have: 1989 Volvo 740 with 430,611 miles. 1992 Volvo 940 with 420,112 miles. 1993 Volvo 240 with 397,322 miles. All have the same cast iron, red block 4 cyl B230 engine. None show any signs of age. All are reliable to a fault. Unlike todays cars that skimp on metal and iron in favor of plastic, fiberglass and rubber. These cars are heavy, safe and look cool. I felt comfortable letting my 16 year old children learn to drive in them. All I ever did was regular maintenance....oil, filters, tires, brake pads. All have the original exhaust. None leak any fluids. Cheap to insure, exempt to yearly emissions testing. Perfect in every way... Soon I'll be teaching my grandson how to drive in my Volvo 240.

I go with Toyotas all the way. I had 2 -6 cylinder Toyota Sienna's and for the last 10 years I've had a Camry Hybrid All of these engines are bulletproof And trouble free. I had 406,000 kilometers On my Sienna before I sold it And except for a few sensors that needed replacing the engine was still running perfectly and burning no oil. My 2007 Camry Hybrid is the best car I've ever owned.

My ex-wife had a 1992 Toyota Camry V6 DX. IN 2000 W with approximately 82,000 the transmission went out. After we had it rebuilt, we promptly sold it and bought 2001 Mazda Protege and sold it in 2012 with 154,000 miles with zero issues, never been to the shop except for a scheduled 90,000 service. Not as important as reliability but looked better than Civic and Corolla with much better driving dynamics 👍👍

Just remember, he is speaking about the engines, not the entire car. It all depends on the climate conditions also. In cold countries where salt is used in the winter, you will find lines below the car prone to rust. Rust proofing may help, but not entirely. That can cause leaks which would lead to failures if not caught early. Lexus are bullet proof vehicles all around. I have been driving them for about 17 years now and they are solid performers, more speaking of the ES series. There were some model years that had oil sludge problems, just like the camry. The camry is the USA top selling sedan for years now, that speaks for itself. Everyone should own a scantool. Does not have to be the expensive ones. They have come down on prices now with more features added, that can tell you a lot about the health of your engine and also prevent being ripped of by your trusted mechanic.

Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) is Honda's term for its variable displacement technology. Many Honda 6's are infected with this self-inflicted mechanical disaster. Don't go near it with a 3-meter pole. Some satisfaction can be had with a disabling kit sold on E-bay for about $100 buck. Honda will tell you you need a new engine that they won't pay for.

I have a 2019 honda accord sport with only 65k miles. Nothing but problems for me unfortunately. The 2.0 turbo V4 sputters out and is at the dealers. I had gotten a letter for recall on the fuel pump but the dealer still charging me $250 for a diagnostics fee which I think is BS. What is more upsetting is after I paid it the same problem happened as I drove off the lot the first time. Any suggestions on what I should or can do? Thanks in advance:)

Ford's 4.6L V8, featured in the mid-90s model Thunderbirds (and Crown Vics IIRC) are simply the best engines of that era. As long as basic maintenance was kept up, they run forever. My 96 Thunderbird has nearly 300k miles on it and still purrs like a kitten. It's kinda sad, really, that Ford has been run by ideologically-driven bean-counters for so long now, engine/transmission quality has really nosedived across their offerings today.

Yep, you missed the Mitsubishi 3A92 engine in the Mitsubishi Mirage. Tiny but bullitproof. Port injection, chain timed, low output. Good for 300.000 miles on average. Goes out of production this year too, by the way (after 12 years of production).

Was gonna say, that coyote 5.0L Ford engine is pretty bullet proof and easy to maintain. If you choose it with a 500hp Mustang, yeah it obviously uses some reliability points and transfers it in to horsepower, but its bullet proof in the trucks.

I just got 2024 4Runner Limited 4x4, absolutely love it. Therfore, I owned 2000 Land Cruiser rolls over 700k miles. I don't know what the name of engine is.

@carhelpcorner Yes. Little sluggish, but I am quite surprised it is quieter than my new 2024 4Runner LTD. You don't believe it, I always put my ears close to the front grille just to listen to the sound of the engine starting. Sound of strong NA V8 💪. The fan and whine kicking makes me feel addicted. I have started doing for 8 years

I had a Toyota Camry which for 6 years was wonderful. Then it went to the garage 4 times in two months. Problems with back brake lights, twice with problems to switch transmission and then mechanic said I was very unwise to drive car with exposed wires in dashboard. I said I can not see thru the dashboard. Then the driver’s door handle broke off. Must have been a lemon. My Toyota Civic is 18 years old and my Honda is 16 years old.

Man i know you were mentioning “newer cars” but to anyone reading. If you want a insanely reliable engine. Get you a 2010 civic with the R18a1 4 cylinder. This engine is legitimately bulletproof and can go over 500,000 miles if you maintain it. Especially if you are always on the highway. The r series is absolutely insane. Please look into getting one if you just want something crazy reliable and still modern looking

Toyota's planetary gearset E-CVT. By a huge margin. Low maintenance and routinely go past 350k with no issues.

I have 4 LS 6.0L GM engines in my work vans personal trucks. Every one has over 270k miles my highest Van has 632k miles. Transmissions suck but the LS engine goes forever

Hi, I don't want to knitpick, but I think that the Honda 3.5l engine you mixed up the km versus miles interval for timing belt replacement (around minute 3:20). Love your revues.

Subaru engines have silicone sealant for engine gasket. They often fail. Also, their cvt transmissions can have troubles with high mileage.

If these engines are great, is it worth considering extended warranty? Of course, provided that you do take care of the car and perform all required service maintenance; and FYI, I'm specifically interested in the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness.

Unlikely you'll get your money's worth out of an extended warranty for any of these. It might be worth it to cover the electronics if you negotiate a great price.

Lots of Ubers have taken the same engine past 400K with few issues. And the issues that have occurred in numbers so far are not related to lack of oil protection.

If that's how the engine was engineered then it should be fine. The far more critical piece is the oil change interval and not stretching it too long.

Just a small example: I cannot agree with Subaru engines being in front of Mazda engines simply because while they last similar hundreds of miles, Mazda engines are far more economic and peppy. That doesn't mean that Subaru engines are not very good, it means that others are better. Btw, what is you source of data, because otherwise your video, while being entertaining and close to the truth, seems to be speculative.

2019-2022 FB25s do suffer from issues with the Thermo Control Valve. Subaru just extended the warranty on that part to 15 years or 150,000 miles.

Not the 2.5 Camry engine built in 2008. Mine had to be rebuilt under warranty by Toyota. Still pulsates after tune up.

Too new to say. It is a very complex engine and challenging to do major service work on. Mazda's reputation has been very good though so it is likely to hold up well. Enjoy it 👍

@@Nothingmuch99 excited to put my hands on 4runner 2025 hybrid one.. the new seaweed green color has a shine and is unique and fresh.. Honda i would stay away from esp because they are not the best in suv... if you trade in your existing 4runner for sedan like civic you will love the hybrid sure but hate the low feel. Because you have equated the low feel with power - supra... so constantly you'll be comparing amd driving supra more... what you need is a grand suv with excellent mileage - luckily its again in toyota- be it the one i told u or sequoia for the appeal.. capstone or the land cruiser comeback is also good... and listen life is short...travel travel travel... tc and god bless

Why are all these companies switching to turbos? It's a well known fact that turbo engines don't last as long as a regular aspirated engine. Toyota is having major problems with their new twin turbo V6s in their trucks. Why change something that's been working for decades.

Toyota 2.5 4 Cylinder the 05 Camry my younger brother drives now has 35,000 miles on it at nearly 20 yrs. old we bought it for our late Maternal grandmother on 30th Nov 2004 its a fully loaded LE model in Egyptian sand gold with tan interior what about the 5 liter Coyote engine in the Ford Mustang since 2010 or the 5.8 that's in the Mustang Shelby GT350 and 500 models
