It's a shame about the Taos. It's affordable and is getting the much needed 8-speed automictic for 2025 for the AWD models, but its engine is still a problem. VW is giving it over 15 more hp for 2025, but it's still the same 1-5l engine with poor reliability. The same engine is in the Jetta which has been more reliable. It just goes to show small turbo engines in SUVs, and trucks are not a good combination.

Its insane that manufacturers are putting 1.5l and 3 cylinder engines in suvs
@S.L.S-407Ай бұрын
@ishmamrahman877- They are doing it to meet government emissions standards. To keep the consumer happy, they are adding boosts to give them the extra unneeded power they want. Don't buy a car that has a boost system bc it is very hard on the engine, which may explain why some engines are starting to fail. Add to that a direct injection system which also is harder on an engine, along with a timing belt instead of a timing chain and you are looking at laying out a lot of money in the future. Good luck if you are buying. : )

However, what do you think will happen if people will only buy the 3 car brands like Toyota, Honda and Subaru? Less competition means higher prices for these 3 car manufacturers. It seems reviewers never mentions these items even though they can cause an engine to fail over time AND cost a small fortune to repair. Thank you Shari 💙

I have an '13 Impreza, the 2.0 liter and it does not burn oil. But it is a crap shoot, as every boxer engine has the potential to do this. The Crosstrek has either a base 2.0 liter or a larger 2.5 liter on upper trims. Both have a timing chain. The Mazda has either a 2.5 liter or a 2.5 liter Turbo on upper trims. Both also now have a timing chain. The Mazda has a less expensive rear suspension, so the Subaru will ride better. The Subaru has a full-time AWD system, the Mazda is part time when needed. They are both good cars, but not perfect. Had an older Mazda Protege with the timing belt, this should be changed every 90,000 miles along with the water pump, but they no longer make these older 2 liter engines.
