In this video I discuss the number one most underrated reason to join the airforce. Getting away from my hometown and the people I dealt with daily, was by far the best thing I could've done. A lot of people will tell you you're crazy when discussing big dreams like joining the Airforce, but they're really just holding you back.

I joined the Airforce last year, and I'm graduating from tech school tomorrow. After BMT (which honestly isn't that bad), the Airforce is the best career you could ask for. The life style is amazing

I'm 39 years old, and I'm in a different cave. I'm in a career I don't enjoy, but have felt trapped because my trade is enough to provide for my family, but I feel like the world is passing me by. But I decided I don't need to feel trapped. I started watching your videos and saw a recruiter. I went from a couch potato at 199 lbs to 170 lbs and now running 1.5 miles in 15 minutes. I have had 3 medical diagnoses that I am going through the process of getting waivers for. If you have been thinking about joining the military and haven't, the only thing holding you back is you. Hopefully the next time I comment on one of your videos will be when I am about to go to MEPS. Love your content, it is so informative and motivating.

Hey Phillip. I'm also in the process of joining the Air Force for active duty. My recruiter told me that with all the waiver stuff his boss has to look over, I might not even be given a choice of what job I want and I may even be permanently disqualified altogether. Is it the same for you? I actually turned in my enlistment packet online in late November and am still waiting for my recruiter's boss to look over my papers. 1/16/2024.

I'm graduating in May with a college degree and joining the Air Force for several reasons, including family issues and job security. The job market is really tough right now, with many jobs requiring a minimum of 3+ years of experience. If you are 21 like me, struggling to find a job, start your life, and get away from a toxic environment, I would consider the Air Force. I had the privilege to stay at home with my parents and get a college education, for which I am thankful, even though I have been paying with my mental health. At least now I know what I really want to do. At 17 and 18, a lot of us don't know what to do. A part of me always wanted to join the military, so that's how I ended up making the decision. But if you are 17 or 18 and you can't go to college for whatever reason, consider the military. It can help you stay out of trouble and avoid wasting time. Don't be afraid to make a decision. Staying in your comfort zone is your biggest enemy. Don't do it. Make a decision and stick to it. Please, guys, take the leap and move forward with confidence.
@davidanunez2

I wholeheartedly concur. I got my masters last May and got nothing out of it (sadly). The job market was a depressing mess to enter after graduating. After a year of basically wasting away, I am now planning on enlisting to the Air Force. I’ve been comfortable for too long, and though I am grateful for my room and family. I think taking this leap to the skies is just what I need.

I've been seriously considering joining the air force lately, I'm 30 years old. I'm very unhappy with my life but I'm just terrified of what might happen. I've suffered a lot of trauma in my childhood in addition to having adhd and being on the autism spectrum. I hate bringing up oppression olympics but I had to go through so much just so I could function at a minimum wage job. Its disheartening to fail over and over and never see your work come to fruition. I guess what I'm saying is that I'm afraid of failure and I'm afraid I won't survive in a military environment. Anyways I've been watching your videos over the past week or so and they've been quite helpful. Thank you for making them.

@@yingyang7448 The lesson I’d pass on is to go in with the job you want guaranteed in writing. Also the base of preference if that’s an issue for you. I went in “Open” and loved the service but hated the job. I submitted 13 cross training applications because no one explained to be when I first went in the difference between a first termed and career airman. First termed have the opportunity to cross train a lot easier than if you reenlist and then try it. Also, pick a job that can be plugged in anywhere, don’t get too specific. Being a B-52 crew chief really limits you but being IT, Medical, Weather, Base Ops, ATC, etc means you can go to any base worldwide. Good luck!

I live in the middle of nowhere in a town with only 1000 people. I want to get out and be challenged, have my world views tested, and grow as a person. This video was honestly so encouraging to me because I've been debating enlisting as an active duty airman for about 5 months now. I'm no longer scared that the airforce "isn't for me" because I would rather enlist and KNOW if it is or is not, than to be wondering for the rest of my life and wandering aimlessly.

What if I have the opposite situation where I have a great job and career prospects but I want to join the military (to gain discipline, increase fitness, security clearance, military benefits…) My new job in aerospace is too good to give up but I don’t see when in my life it would make sense to join up. Possibly I could keep my job with reserves but that still requires basic training or officer training school and 2/3 of my yearly vacation time. I’m also still unsure whether I’d join the space or Air Force, it appears that many SF careers are still listed under AF but not vice versa
@Jodywithawhy
@Jodywithawhy 8 ай бұрын
The reserve or guard may be best for you. Especially since you have a good situation already. Something to keep in mind, your job cannot require you to take vacation time to go to basic and tech school. They will put on leave without pay status until you return. As far as Air Force or space force, the guard and reserve don’t have a space force yet. So that makes it pretty easy to choose. Good luck.

Hello sir, I watch a good amount of your videos and I am a little torn between joining or not joining & going active or reserve.... However, if I do go reserve....can my job put me in another position or do I get to keep my same position when I get back? I have a good local government job with great benefits but it's not in my degree field (cyber security) I'm just really trying to make sure I won't have to start over if I go reserve.... Thank you for your service & for reading my post. @Jodywithawhy

@Beezaboy345 your job has to legally keep you if you go to basic training. They cannot fire you. As far as going active or reserve, it really depends on your situation. I’d recommend talking to both recruiters and figure out which path fits your goals better. 🤙🏽

I think it starts with people who’ve been in. When I recruited, you won’t believe how many prior service came in my office and said they didn’t know how good they had it while serving. I think the current members take their life and benefits for granted, and it’s not until they’re out they realize what they had. Also, you have a lot of bitter people right now, and they cast that onto the new members. Making it a terrible cycle. It’s just unfortunate.

Hey! Just wanted to drop a thanks for all your vids so far. I'm 27, highschool dropout with a GED, only had two jobs, and was diagnosed with ADHD as a kid, but stopped taking meds when I was in 8th grade and learned to control myself. I've had a lot of fear concerning whether or not I'll be let in, but your content has helped me reign it in. I'm still training and doing PT to not be a twig, but plan to take the leap no more than a few months from now.

I’m wishing you good luck. I would recommend you see your doctor so you can have something in your medical records stating you’ve been off of meds since 8th grade, and have performed well. Also that doctor doesn’t see any need for you to continue medication in the future. This will help your medical waiver when it comes time.
@zalidaris

MSgt Jody is correct---best thing I ever did was join the AF in 1982 and get away from home....enjoyed a 21 year AD career and a 17 year civil service career before retiring in 2021. My worldview was greatly changed due to all the people I met and cultures where I lived....the world is much bigger than the town where you grew up. It’s hard coming in from being prior service. The positions are very limited. You can always try, but most recruiters don’t put forth the effort. The guard or reserve would be the easiest route, but then again those aren’t full time positions immediately most of the time.

It depends on what she’s trying to accomplish or what she feels she needs to do to be satisfied. Sometimes people may have the best situation, but they feel there’s holes in their life, and they think serving their country may fill that hole. So it really just depends on her and her goals.
