In terms of dealing with, “drama” just remind yourself of this: there is an extremely rare chance that you will ever see any of these people in your regular military career after graduation. So, “losing face” is not a thing if you lose an argument or back down or walk away from a situation that you would normally engage in. So, even though you may feel like you “lost” an argument, it won’t matter as you’ll most likely never see these people again. So don’t worry about just walking away worrying about what THEY feel about you.

I left for BMT on 22 Aug 1989. Your experience at BMT is predicated 100% on the personality of your MTI. My MTI was SSgt Ernie Serrato. He was 100% hardcore 100% of the time. My flight never received a single liberty the entire time. Hell, not a single person in my flight ever went to chapel services in fear of reprisal. We would spend all day Sunday ensuring the dorm was up to our MTI’s standards. BMT is 100% what you make it to be. You will make some great friends. You will meet some really interesting people. You may even meet a person of the opposite sex whom you end up dating (happened to me!). You will have good days and bad days. You will have memories that will still make you laugh 30 years later. The one thing about BMT no one talks about is, you will have something in common with every person whom you ever meet in the USAF. Everyone you meet in the USAF has been through BMT. At BMT, do what you are told, exactly how you are instructed, as quickly as you can, and with attention to detail. The days go by slow but the weeks go by fast. Live each day from chow to chow. Arrive at BMT in shape. Aim high!

Much of what you explain although keyed to girls, is the same with guys, and much was exactly my experience. At one time, I was interested in attending the Air Force Academy, but life changed my opportunities. Although accepted for Army OCS, I did not get to go. I took an enlisted spot repairing radars in West Germany. Regardless, I have to say that the Army was the greatest experience of my life. You will have a rewarding time in the Air Force. I was watching this video since I'm slowly eliminating the branches i want to do and basically everything I've heard in this video doesn't apply to ANY of the other branches especially with the Physical training stuff so if you can't do pushups or can't run at a decent pace join the Airforce because you will be singled out and yelled at in the other branches. From what I've heard the Marine corps also does the color belts to signify your PT level and you don't want to have a low level belt because the DI's will single you out and mess with you so much.

How many people are willing to deploy for a year, fight, rest, and go back for more? While extreme, there are AF folks that do that kinda thing. Tip of the spear jobs. It all starts in basic training. Show up in shape, mentally strong, and ready to learn. I read someone mentioned inclusion. When you join the military all races and backgrounds are included. It's about we not about thee. That statement has magnified a thousandfold while deployed. There is not a lot of time to deal with whining because it's hard. The hard and the challenge is what makes it great. It takes courage to walk a different path. Thanks to all the folks who join and fight for us. She makes informative videos. Listen and learn.

Thank you so much for this video, I want to join so bad, and I have been on and off about it. This video makes me feel more confident about joining. Honestly, the biggest thing that has been stopping me is honestly the shots, and bloodwork. I am not great with needles and have a tendency to pass out, not so much from shots anymore but from bloodwork it is still pretty common. I have mentioned it to a few others who have been in and most have said probably not, but I think I would handle the bloodwork better if they did it from my hand rather than my arm. I tend to handle it better and not pass out that way. I just don't know if they would do that if I asked them to

Most of the shots are done pretty fast. The longest was probably the peanut butter shot, which took a little longer than most shots- but it’s done in the hip/thigh area, and the people who administer it are pretty nice about it. Plus, it hurts less than women for men. The people working at the BMT Med Group aren’t soulless and won’t force you to look at them giving you these shots, so if you’re able to get shots as long as you don’t look then you should be good. Having your blood drawn, I’m not necessarily sure if they do it in BMT- they might, but I do remember it being a MEPs thing. And you can talk to the doctors during it to distract yourself. I think they even ask if you’re afraid of needles beforehand too. In reality, as long as you don’t pass out from seeing needles or freak out too bad- you should still see a recruiter. Mention your concerns, they may be able to better guide you. (And for the love of god research the jobs before you choose one!)

Thank you so much, that actually might help a lot! I appreciate it! Also, oh I have definitely been doing my research on jobs that I promise, actually as I write this I have it up on my computer looking at the options.

I also black out from needles, and shots. 😅 I normally have to let people know before hand and they make sure I'm sitting down in a position where I can safely black out lol. I'm sure it's a similar deal. I can still get the shots, I just need some extra accommodations. I have heard that there are so many once you're in the military that it gets easier as you go along though.

Yep I did 4 years and we had a summer leadership school we went 2 every year that was just like basic training. It helped alot. Plus being a drill team commander for 3 yrs going to competitions and all that just gives you so much of a leg up on everyone else. In basic I was an element leader in the dorms and a Guide On Bearer in formation. My TI told my parents he put to much on me or I would have gotten Distinguished Graduate. But its all good I did get Distinguished Grad in Security Forces Tech School!

Hi, first off thank you for the informative video! second, what’s the deal with mental health like ocd? i go to meps in a few weeks and i struggled with ocd a lot in my adolescence and early teen years, but now (turning 18 tomorrow) it’s definitely not as bad as it was so i’m not concerned about it. i’ve never been on any medication for it either, and my recruiter knows this. so my question is do they do a mental health background check at meps and will it disqualify me if i just tell them a white lie that i used to see a therapist in the past but don’t anymore, even though i do from time to time?

You bring your own. You don't wear normal bras except for graduation when you're in your blues if you choose. You wear sports bras everyday, they have to be certain colours. And Underwear must be conservative, no thongs or cheeky.

Hey there! I love your BMT videos - they're really helping me out! I do have a couple questions for you when you have the time: Are we allowed to bring wet wipes? Should I bring a laptop with me, or have my parents ship it to me after BMT? Do you know anything about Crypto Linguists? Ok thats's it for my questions. Thank you so much for making these videos!!
@MikaylaRoseDaly4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I'm honestly not sure about the wet wipes.. I brought face wipes with me and it was fine, so maybe. The worst thing is they'll just confiscate them. You are not allowed to bring expensive personal items like a laptop with you, the only electronic you can bring is your phone which will be locked up. Your parents can ship your laptop, as well as any personal items like your clothes to tech school. I don't know anything about Crypto Linguists so I apologise. Hope this helped!

Younger people who consider a future the Air Force, or Air National Guard may want to look into the Civil Air Patrol. I had an uncle who as in the Army Air Corp (WW2) then Air force, finally full time Air National Guard. Civil Air Patrol experience counted when joining the Air Force. CAP gives you military formation experience, uniform standards and such so you are less green than your pure civilian mates. BTW Basic training has been changed since the bad old days of the Draft. My brother was in the Army in the Late Seventies. He broke his foot 4 days in Basic, so he was held back. Between his 2 halves of Basic he saw the rules change. God Bless all who Serve Thank You.

Wow, this was the opposite of what I experienced in army basic training. We were definitely not allowed to use the latrine whenever we needed. I remember one time we marched off to the next place. The drill sergeants put us in parade rest and walked away. Two hours later, we were still in parade rest and had received no further instruction from the drill sergeants. One guy peed his pants because he just couldn't hold it any longer. Also, they definitely ARE allowed to single you out in the army, and this happens frequently during Basic, although they also did collective punishment a lot.

Haha y'all had it easy with the water! We were canteens filled in the sink. Not to mention the minerals and florid you miss out on by filtering your water... You call it dorms like it's college! We called it barracks like it was training to be a soldier...

As a guy, I heard about all the shots. That didn't concern me. Then I heard about a particular shot called the "square needle in the left nut". I would say as long as you empty it in the toilet and wipe it with toilet paper before you rinse it in the sink or whatever, it shouldn’t be an issue. The showers are open but the toilets do have stalls so nobody will see you actually changing it
