Blue sapphire is very popular gem in the world. There are two types, we called cornflower blue sapphire and royal blue sapphire. Today we selected cornflower blue sapphire gem to discuss with you. We will discuss about the colour, polishing of the gem stone and selecting the gem stone.
We bought a blue sapphire gem stone at the Rathnapura gem market and we hope to cut this gem stone. Let’s meet Mr. Chandrasiri to cut this gem stone.
Now you can see the burned gem stone. We bought a rough gem stone. So we should careful about the gem stone to make high value after cutting the gem stone. Before we cut this gem we should decide how to polish this gem stone in which side and how do we balance the colour.
First we put this gem stone to the white colour water bowl to check the colour. Actually the dark blue colour is around the gem stone. And also we can see the blue color at the center of the gem stone. So now we decide to cut and polish the gem stone to enhance the blue colour.
Now we meet Mr. Chandrasiri who is a specialist gem cutter in Sri Lanka. Let’s cut and polish the gem stone which is weighted in 5.7 carat. We decide to cut this gem stone in oval shape.
After cut the gem stone it is 7 mm height gem and 4.5 carat weighted.
Next we make the top of the gem stone. And after that we can polish the gem stone.
Next we cut the bottom of the gem stone.
The finished gem stone has 2.97 carat weight. We could protect more than 50% weight from the cutting part. And also we could protect the colour from the gem stone.
