I think I know why it crashed the first time you tried to do the Bridge Jump at the end of the game. The two cops were ahead of you, and it read as you and the Cops jumping the bridge instead of just you. That overwhelmed the game, causing a crash because it wasn't coded for the cop AI to jump the bridge at the end of the game. The In Game Cutscene doesn't count as it's pre-programmed in to allow that. In short, that was sheer luck that the cops were there at the right time.
