You do understand that ambulances are built on truck frames & have a lot of weight behind them, right? Surely you also understand that officers have no idea who they may be dealing with & what that person is willing to do to escape, yeah? So why exactly would they place themselves directly in harms way in the hopes that this person isn't completely unhinged & willing to ram them? It's really not that complicated, you also wouldn't be rushing to get into a head-on collision with an ambulance.

I was breasting a hill with a sharp left near my house, and the instructor yelled out, "Look out for the kid on the bike!" I slammed on the brakes and cautiously eased around the corner, and I pointed out there was no kid on a bike. He looked at me and said, "No, but you didn't _know_ that, did you?" To this day as I'm driving the winding country roads to or from work, I assume there's a vehicle (or a kid on a bike) around every corner. Sometimes, people get frustrated by my cautious driving and overtake me at high speed. I have seen at least 10 accidents happening that way, while I haven't had a single one.
