Keep doing the Statesville NC vids. Used to live there back in the 90s.

I grew up in Mooresville. Back in the 1980s, Mooresville didn't have any Mexican restaurants or movie theaters. If we wanted to go out for Mexican food, we would drive up to Statesville and eat at El Tio's. For movies we would usually go to Charlotte, but I'm sure we went to the Newtowne Cinema a few times, too. I guess things are the other way around nowadays.

Thank you Matt for sharing your story. I know in the 90's we would go to a movie theater in Cornelius. I think it was called Movies at the Lake. It was later closed in and turned into Michael Waltrip Racing. Thank you for watching,

Your video was interesting to watch .. thanks. I had to chuckle at all the things that you described as old, when I see them as relatively recent. I can remember when Newtowne Plaza was new, and that was a King's department store as the major anchor (the gated area on the right was the Garden Center). Eckerd Drug, Hungry Bull restaurant, Scrogg's Gift Shop (later Gluttons), etc. I worked at the Newtowne Theatre in the early 70s long before it was divided into a twin. There was no alley to the right because there was no restaurant there yet. Many good times changing the marquee out by Broad Street, eating and drinking at Village Inn, and hanging out with girl friends on the roof of the theatre.

Hey Kevin! Thanks for watching. And thank you sir for sharing your memories about Newtowne Plaza. So the old JR's building at one time was a Kings Department store? I have heard the name in my lifetime. I don't have any memory of it though. Thanks again.

Thanks for the video. We rode thru here last night, and relived a bunch of good memories. We talked about cruising around the mall and having dates at El Tio's.

Thanks for this vid!!! When Dan Bell visited years ago and the ski villa looking pizza place, I knew I had to see it. The pizza place was gone when I visited last year and they were taking down the old road sign for the center. The punch of the mold from JR was quite memorable!!! I pulled up my car about 50 yards from JR and could smell the mold.

Thanks for watching. The smell coming out of JR's building is still alive and well.😂

All of East Broad St just needs a complete overhaul. From the Mall to Kmart. Hell they even got rid of the Bi-Lo next to planet fitness. So much abandoned buildings but no clear future as to when they will be demolished or remodeled for something else. It’s depressing. So much wasted space.

I totally agree with you. I wish they would tell the people of Statesville some kind of plan. My mom shopped at Bi-Lo regularly. She was bummed out when they closed it. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I know there's an abandoned Peebles in Mocksville near Exit 170 on I-40 and an abandoned Sagebrush Steakhouse on that same exit. Good place to go and check out.
