The problem with elections in the USA is not that voting laws that require photo ID prevent some demographic cuts from voting. I mean, of course, these laws are made so that poor people, people of color and other marginalized groups do not vote, because well .... They do not vote for Republicans, what a surprise! But the root problem is that the USA, the richest country in the history of mankind, has a part of the population that does not have some type of nationally recognized photo ID. Seriously, USA? Brazil, which is much less wealthy, is a country where virtually ALL THE POPULATION has photo ID, and all this bullshit of electoral fraud because of photo ID simply DOES NOT EXIST!

It's not only that. For example, poor people get a much harder time getting time off work to vote. Also lines in poorer neighborhoods are longer. Finally, in some places there where armed people near polling places to intimidate.

Its a voter ID not a regular ID. Also, in Alabama and Georgia where these laws were being implemented, the states closed the DMVs in predominantly minorities counties for a while to discourage them from getting IDs. They also ban those with criminal records from voting, couples that with the fact that blacks and Latinos are usually poorer (which has a direct correlation for having higher chances of having a criminal record) and you can see how republicans try everything to discourage these people from voting.

This is well into the 1930s and well after the Civil War. Democrats began to male inroads with the New Deal, the first of the gigantic welfare programs. FDR would not have been able to pass this BS without some Southern Democratic votes. Southern Blacks were grateful and started supporting many of the politicians. Thats why the Dixiecrats were born, who created Jim Crow. Only a few later became Republicans.
