Why is there footage of a fictional bus in this video? The bus at 00:11, 01:43, 02:03, etc. Is from the movie The Big Bus. It was a disaster parody movie from 1976. Someone needs to double check their AI.

All the videofootage of the Neoplan Jumbocruiser is taken from a single bus (there have not been many built in the first place), and this spurs the label "Treberhilfe", which translates to "Help for homeless people". (And yes, the city of Dresden, Germany homeless care center operates this bus.)

yes, not even sure what he was describing for 9. He was showing two different busses, one of them from a 1978 movie called "The Big Bus" and it was never more than a movie prop. It may have been a moving vehicle but it was never a bus for passengers. It was ridiculously long, and had bowling ally. It's been a really long time since I saw the movie, but I think it may have had a pool.

Just a little sidenote here: While talking about the EvoBus (Mercedes) Capacity you showed us the normal Citaro 2 G (5:13). The Capacity is way bigger then the normal C2-G. 19m in lenght and with 4 axis (2 with steering). Just google Capacity and you'll find it. The Capacity L is the longer version with 21m. In the video shown is the old 1 gen Capacity, not the 2 gen Capacity L as was said (6:20). The really big one (Capacity L) was never shown. The importend thing to note here is, that the Capacity is in active service in multible cities in Germany. Its not a one off thing as some of the really large ones shown here. Unfortunatly the Capacity isn't made anymore, because Evobus focusses on electric busses now and the Capacity hasn't been upgraded to electic jet.

I usually travel by car, living in a rural area with lousy public transport. But you don't want to sit on those seats with a ride above one hour. You need a lot of extra natural padding on your own backside, that must not be to wide either for you'll need two seats. 😂

I love the look and idea of the bendy triples and wonder if any rear wheel steering is utilized (couldn't tell from the vid clips) or even viable. With or without, the routes must be carefully mapped out... theres no backing out of a wrong turn! 😮

In the UK buses must run on designated routes without deviation. In the event of a road closure etc. buses can only use designated, risk accessed, diversions. Bus companies receive advanced notice of restrictions along designated routes from the local council, to facilitate route planning.

One big issue I've seen with articulated busses is the drive wheels on the rear section. In snow or ice, these units jackknife. Unless they add drive motors on the front section through the he hybrid power train they are unreliable in winter conditions

If your transit capacity becomes so high that you need to run double articulated busses then you should seriously consider building a tram instead. The weight of these huge vehicles is likely to damage roads in the long term, basically slowly digging rails for themselves in the tarmac. If that happens, you better lay down proper steel tracks and call it a tram.
@The_Gamer_66
@The_Gamer_66 11 ай бұрын
In some Cities like Winterthur it makes more sense to add an biarticulated trolley bus (the same bus as #5 just as trolley bus) onto a line that already is build for trolleybusses instead of rebuilding all the wiring and add tracks. Also the line from Basel to the EuroAirport (which uses the exact model shown at #5) is planned to ether be replaced by tram or heavy rail extension. In Zurich the biarticulated Trolleybusses run "on" tram tracks alongside the trams and extend furter than the tram terminus.
@DJarr216
@DJarr216 11 ай бұрын
A tram requires adding alot of infrastructure which is way more expensive and takes a long time to complete. Busses are a more flexible and cheaper solution. What if you only need biarticulated busses to deal with the increased demand during peak hours or have to deal with high ridership on a section of the route? You don't want to build alot of expensive infrastructure only to have your trams run half full the majority of the time. A higher capacity bus is also cheaper to run compared to having smaller busses cover a route but with a higher frequency. The biggest operating cost of a bus is the salary of the driver As far as the busses weight damaging the roadsurface goes, a biarticulated bus is longer and spreads out the total mass over more wheels and a larger area. it's gonna end up being less damaging to a road then a fully loaded truck or a doubledecker bus.

IN ROMANIA, TROLLEY BUSES OVER 18 M LONG ARE STILL CIRCULATING TODAY FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS. IN BUCHAREST, A DOUBLE-ARTICULATED MODEL WAS CREATED, called DAC 122E or 123E - Double-articulated trolleybus, 22 or 23 m long, derived from DAC 117 E. It was built by URAC and the Autobuzul factories, in the mid-80s. Cluj Napoca these days it is commonplace to see trolleybuses and buses over 18 m long.

im a bus driver, public transport in holland, and i can say, bendy buses (18 meter anyway) are easier to drive, then say a 13m standard bus (we have 12m, 13m, 18m, and on one specific line 21 meter mercedes capacity (tho here you need a permit to operate them on a specific route, you cant just drive them on any line you want)

Articulated buses were created in 1978 in the city of Curitiba/Paraná-BR, after the 80s they began to be found in other cities, and in the 90s the concept went to the USA and Europe, in Brazil we have some with rear engines manufactured by Volvo.

Such excessive coach's will travel effectively empty many hours each day. If instead single buses were arranged so they could couple as multi-unit MU coupling, like railroads with one driver then it would be possible to downsize in slow periods and expand during busy periods. Of course that would be too efficient and use less personnel which the unions would put an end to. Oh well !
