Yes that has been very frustrating. People just disappear from the builds. Honestly i am finding the community to be very Unhelpful. It's completely different from the ICE community who have this knowledge base and they share it. Sometimes it feels like pulling teeth to get info, and i suspect that the people that get zeros are just a little bit more reserved and dont have as much patience?

Good find Motard Squid! I picked up a 2012 Zero XU without a battery pack off Craig's list for $895 June of 2022. It was easy to bypass the computer and build a 14s battery (58.8 volts peak). These bikes are a blast to ride. I have over 2000 miles on mine. You have probably already tested the motor and controller. It is not hard. When you get it running, set the controller to 100% throttle and try to keep the front wheel on the ground. Thanks for all the excellent info on your channel.

how did u bypass the computer? Cant find anything :( How about BMS. Did u replace it? Same chemistry and capacity as before? Or?

Hey man, I just got a Zero FXs for free from a a cousin, but with a non functioning battery pack as well. I know alittle bit about lipos and speed controllers from my drone building days, but I'd love to be able and talk with ya for a minute to eliminate some of the guess work on my end.

As you write, you are not an electrician. Seeing the way you go about it, I would refrain from assembling the components and dispose of the electrical waste before someone gets hurt. . .

I have rarely seen someone with 0.0 idea dare to do such things... by the way, there are probably 21,700 cells, which not only contain more energy, but can also release more energy (amps) and also have a nominal voltage of 3.7 volts . Maybe you'd talk to someone who has at least a hint of what's going on in a battery pack before you blow up the house installing new cells.

Don't do it! I made a video years ago about rebuilding them. Original 2009 10 and probably 11 were really bad design. The BMS never went to sleep and so kills 1/2 of cell to keep the others alive so most owners have their battery go bad in no time. Zero wants $1800 to rebuild and the one I had done had trouble later.... The other stupid design is using big gum bands to hold battery to web strips to connect! Use a small bicycle 48 volt charger instead of the delta and it will last much longer, just plug into the red and black charge plugs, not the white. The 164 cells are expensive and impossible to find, I know. I had batteries last 5 years doing that! I now use 1/2 slab 48 volt M Smart car battery in my zero and no BMS with slow charging bicycle charger 1 to 200 watts max. Runs faster! more current. Most others won't fit. I converted a 2009 to street and ran around Santa Cruz where they are made for 7 years and still use it for off road, so love the bike and simplicity as little goes wrong. You can bypass the main controller, find the schematic on Altrax web site if you know electronics!

No fear of lithium batteries? Suicidal acting - you could have filmed your dead! The batteries can burn down in some minutes by having a high temperature as you won't think about....
