I wasnt sure if i was happy with my 03 i got with 24k for 2700 in 2021 but every time i ride it i fall in love with it even more. Its just an all around amazing bike. Using it for longer trips and an eventual cross country trip. I use my vfr for everything else not more then a few hundred miles and a cb400 for commuting.

It is funny your heading motioned the Goldwing. One of my coworkers had owned Goldwings in the past and bought a Beemer and said he was going to trade it in on another Goldwing. I told him to look at the ST1300. He went to the Honda dealer and saw one, and said "I'm not buying any crotch rocket" but the salesman told him to take it out on a test ride. He bought it on the spot and loved it. Took it on many long trips and loved the handling, etc. (Only thing is he had to put risers on the handlebars, and complained bout how the heat from between the tank and seat was like "roasting chestnuts on an open fire" if you get my drift.)

Thats funny he thought it was a sportbike. I guess if you are coming off one of the older goldwings it does seem like it. Yeah i know that st1300 heat issue. Ouch, better keep it movie on this bike.

Great review, one of the best bikes I have owned (I had the older 1100), used it for shopping and commuting as well as touring. It does have plenty of power (for 2-up touring with luggage) and handles well but it won't keep up with a sports bike unless the rider is a complete novice. Always check the clutch when buying used because it's a lot of work to replace because of how the engine is set out - do some steep hill starts, do a few quick launches to warm it up, then check the hill starts again - should be completely smooth, no juddering and no slipping.

I've never owned an ST1300 but always wanted one, but did owned an 07 FJR , 10 RT & 12 C14 & now an 18 Goldwing tour DCT , which you need to ride one & compare it to the ST 13 , the 18 up GW is surprisingly good in the Twisties & not too shabby in speed also

I am a new subscriber and really like your content....I am a new owner of a 2005 ST1300....at first I thought it was boring but have come to realize the bike is a very consistent...what would be good is a walk around on the ST on what mods are on the bike.

The weave is due to poor weight distribution. The fix is to ensure your rear shock preload adjuster is full. If you do not feel resistance after about two turns from fully out then you need to refill the adjuster.
@motardsquid
@motardsquid Жыл бұрын
People keep saying that. But i don't buy it. I've had 40 bikes and none of them exhibited this. No matter how loaded they were they more stable at high speeds. If the st1300 is only stable with cargo evenly then it is a major design flaw.
@DavidR8
@DavidR8 Жыл бұрын
@@motardsquid I’m not saying it is more stable with cargo. What I am saying is that if the bike is loaded and the rear spring preload is not increased to ensure the correct ride height then you will get wobble. Before I refilled my adjuster and increased preload my 2005 was awful at highway speeds. After I refilled the adjuster so that it would actually increase preload the bike was and is still rock solid two-up at much high than legal speeds. This change has been proven by one of the most experienced ST mechanics from the ST-Owners forum.
@5eurosenelsuelo
@5eurosenelsuelo 3 ай бұрын
So on one hand it's the preload of the spring and on the other the dampener fluid. How often does the dampener need to be refilled? Why is it leaking in the first place? I'm planning on buying this bike and the whole weave issue seems the only reason to not do it and it's scary.
@DavidR8
@DavidR8 3 ай бұрын
@@5eurosenelsuelo it’s important to understand that the preload adjuster is compressing the spring. So there’s a lot of pressure trying to force the hydraulic oil past the seals. And the bikes are old now so the seals are not what they used to be. I filled my anytime I noticed that it took more than two turns to feel resistance on the adjusting knob. It’s so an easy task that it’s trivial to do. Once filled and working properly there’s zero reason to be concerned about the wobble unless you don’t adjust the preload according to the load.

Im in the process of looking for a sport touring bike, narrowed it down to the Yam fj1300, Kaw Concours14 and Honda St1300. Leaning towards the Kawasaki well because I'm a Kawasaki guy. The FJ1300 is impressive if you want to win the race. The Honda styling just a little off for my taste, but is the better bike in most other ways. I love HP sadly so will probably go with Kawasaki.

2003 was the only model that had the issue. 2004 onward it was fixed. It was due to the damping system from what I gather. I’ve never had issues unless I’ve had a top-box on and that’s to be expected. Issues >100mph.

Almost in the videos. I very fear for that stability. Maybe one day you need go fast for ramdom reason and you fear that thing of stability. I dont like. For the rest look like the best of all. I got nothing on the 1300 stability, except a story: I bought my 2004 contingent on a < 10 mile test ride. Felt a bit squirrelly but otherwise great. So I budgeted for a packaged suspension upgrade, front shocks and rear main shock and bought it. Then, silly in hindsight, a check of the tire pressure showed about 30 pounds, not the recommended 41. Oops! Anyway, once I get back on the road after extensive maintenance and delays, I hope correct tire pressure will have chased the squirrel away!
