In this studio vlog, I paint and color a Silk Moth. Silk moths inhabit much of the world including North America. Although moths are often associated with the color brown, silk moths are all kinds of colors with often unusual markings, like 'eyes' to ward off predators. I paint a Automeris io, a silk moth of North America. This Io moth is in the family Saturniidae, or Saturnids which includes over 2,300 species of moths. My illustration starts with watercolor washes and then I add Prismacolor pencil details. After the illustration is done, I take you along with me to Simpson Reef, outside of Coos Bay, Oregon. Wow and Hi! is all I can say. Watch and find out why.
