MOTHER 3 Tanetane Hot Spring Probability Experiment - Thane Gaming

I went back and forth between screens 1000 times on Tanetane Island to see how many times I could get Ionia to appear in the "hot spring" during the hallucination sequence. Fassad showed up far more than I was expecting, too!

The lady/Ionia is so rare in game, for no reasons and no gain I encountered the lady only one time during all my playtroughs, searching for her or Ionia is almost like searching for a shiny pokemon x)

Haha it really is! I eventually want to try and get footage of her appearing in every possible hot spring for another video--I'd need a full day with a clear schedule and a few podcasts to listen to in order to make that grind happen 😅

I’ve only played the game once, and I definitely came across her in one of the hot springs. I assumed she was a fixed npc, I had no idea she was so rare!

It's the smallest of details that make me appreciate the world of this game so much. I keep thinking about and coming back to MOTHER 3 because of how fully realized it is in ways not many other games are!

funny, i saw the lady in the hot spring at Snowcap Mountain in my current run. In all my playthoughs, this is the first time i've ever seen her.

2:52 poor Boney's upset about being cut out of the picture 😢 What'd you think of this video? I'd love to keep making secret showcase videos on the series like this in between Dark Aspects episodes. I also have a much bigger MOTHER-related project in the works I spent a day researching that I’m excited about--it’s all about references, and while there’s no brand new discoveries in the video, I guarantee many fans haven’t seen what I’ve compiled (as lots of it was new to me). My goal was to provide better quality footage & screenshots of what’s been documented but forgotten, so I had lots of fun digging for the original sources. I really enjoyed it!! I didn't even know the old man was rare, for some reason I'd constantly ses him in the Osohe castle hot springs! (Unless Im remembering wrong...) I'd totally be down for more of this stuff in between, and of course, whatever it is that you'd enjoy making!

I also distinctly remember getting him in the Osohe Castle hot spring a couple of times without trying, though I imagine this 10% chance extends to all hot springs throughout the game. In these tests on Tanetane, I surprisingly got the Old Man to appear 5 times in a row 😳 that's good to know you'd be down for more of this kind of thing, I appreciate your feedback and trust in what I'd like to make 😊

@@ThaneGaming I think the old man isn't that rare OR i'm a big lucky boi, because I see him on the Osone Castle, Snow mountain and even on Tanetane Island, and even tried to see him again to show him to my brother. Of course, there was more times in the other fountains, but he just appears to me like a bird.

I want to say that the average person will see the old man at least once per playthrough, but I've definitely gone multiple entire playthroughs without seeing the lady. I'm sure it's the same for most people as well

I often forget the lady even exists. I've never seen her in any of my own playthroughs.

For sure! The fact that I had only seen the lady a couple of times in all my time spent with the game inspired me to make this--I knew she took the appearance of Ionia during the Tanetane sequence but whenever I got to that part I tried refreshing the screen a bunch and only ever encountered Fassad... I wonder how many times the average player uses the hot springs during a single playthrough. I'd throw out a random guess at around 100, so maybe the lady was designed to be a surprise for those playing a second time

Same! It’s just a fun little detail that sometimes you’ll have company in even the most remote locations 😅 I don’t think they can appear in the final hot sprint though, which makes sense

Currently on my fifth replay of the game and for the first time EVER I encountered the hot spring lady in the Chimera Research Lab hotspring. The fine details of Mother 3 are absolutely absurd and equally amazing, gonna try and get Ionia to spawn in the Tane Tane Island hot spring now!

@@GabenGotYou I guess I shouldn't be surprised, it seems to happen on purpose a lot (the path to Mumbo's Hut in Banjo Tooie's Terrydactyland, and more recently with the PP bridge in Super Mario 3D World). Maybe I'll use a card to recommend my video about the crude Kirby stage during that part lol

During my very first MOTHER 3 playthrough in 2015, my 15 year-old ass laughed when I found Fassad in TaneTane Island. I mean *dude, you're literally the last thing I want to see in a hallucination.*

What I find strange is that the old man and the lady both appear in the fake hot spring, which turned out to be a sludge of garbage. What on Earth are they doing there? Did they eat the mushrooms as well?

I've played through the game many times at this point but I've only seen the lady two or three times without trying? I see the Old Man a lot...I want to test which hot springs they're able to appear in (I think it's every one besides the final cave hot spring)

I've played through Mother 3 completely 4 times. I've never seen the lady lool (I dont think I've seen Fassad or Iona during the hallucinations section either)

I have dream luck. I had so many rare things happen to me on my FIRST Mother 3 playthrough without even searching for them. I saw the lady while grinding for level 46. Edit: I HAVE JOINED THE NOTICED GANG OF COMMENTERS

Haha they really do look like Shroobs, that's perfect! Yeah it's weird, they are bathing in the sludge pit even though the actual hot spring is behind the "mirror". They must have also eaten the mushrooms, it's the only explanation 😅 perhaps they had a similar journey to Tanetane and washed up there...

If you have a problem with the reverb in your room when you speak I read that recording with a blanket on top of you can help with that.

Thanks for the tip! Is there a noticeable reverb throughout these videos? I do think that I'm a bit echoey sometimes (I record in an apartment, and have to do lots of post editing work on the voiceover to remove background noise). I've made minor adjustments over the years but I know there's definitely more I can do to improve the quality

If you go to his channel you can find his setup, he had his blanket on top of his monitor so he can see the audio recording and over himself if I remember correctly.
