Anne Meara, Anne Shedeen and Andrea Elson played grandmother, mother and daughter in this episode. Anne Meara was 20 years older than Shedeen who was 20 years older than Elson. Therefore, Shedeen/Kate fits right in between the other two by age. Meara was born in 1929, Shedeen in 1949 and Elson in 1969.

Curious as to what you mean by tragic? I can somewhat relate to that, when I watched this show as a young boy it was one of my favorite things growing up and became part of my life....when the series came to an end I was unaware of it being canceled, I remember 1 week seeing the the finale not realizing it was the finale, and seeing Alf get surrounded by the ATF, and then thinking it would be concluded the next week, tuning in Monday night at 8:00 and there was no ALF...I was sooo confused and admittedly a little traumatized...I had no idea what happened, where the show what, what happened to Alf, nothing!!! Never got any answers. And as a boy growing up in the 80s we LIVED for characters like ALF, that was a very sad moment in my youth, along the lines of the death of Littlefoot's mother, Simba's father, Atreyu's horse and Optimus Prime...we eventually get a "follow-up" 6 years later with a TV movie, but the damage was already done 💔

I was surprised when i read the review as to y this series came to an end. They said it was "boring" or became "boring". Nonsense I am old and watching it in 2023 and also when i was growling up and i find every episode very entertaining and DIFFERENT!. Sad to hear ppl say it became boring, I do not believe that. Ppl just had more option of series to watch :)

true at the time there was so much TV theres so much more now but at the time it was wild that there were competing media: tv and movies mainly and the beginning of video games and a wider taste for animated content. no internet. its a bit of a cliche but there was something nice about those "simpler times". at the time it was even a novel thing that people could record TV and movies on VHS, which is how i remember watching this episode as a kid.....

As I am sure we all know, she was married to comedian Jerry Stiller, who later appeared as Frank Constanza on Seinfeld who openly hated Jerry Seinfeld's parents. Jerry's mother was played by Liz Sheridan, who played recurring character Mrs Ochmonek on this show.
