Mother in China reunites with missing son after 32-year search

Li Jingzhi spent more than three decades searching for her son, who went missing as a toddler in central China’s Shaanxi province. She travelled to nearly every Chinese province, following every lead that never panned out until the spring of 2020, when DNA technology confirmed that a man in Chengdu was Li's missing son, Jiajia. After being reunited with her son in a nationally televised event, Li became a high-profile advocate for helping families in China find their missing children. Recounting her long search, Li said she never lost hope. Her son, Jiajia, meanwhile, spoke out for the first time about his years growing up with his foster parents and how reuniting with his birth parents helped him to understand that he was not abandoned.

This story brought tears to my eyes. He was getting bullied and his foster dad didn't care. This mom went out and searched and searched. That's amazing dedication. Jiajia is such a beautiful guy. Not exact quote, but when she said (basically) “I had the abilities as mother to raise a child, but that was robbed of me” that was very heart breaking… it’s not easy and at times a lot of mums ‘regret’ it (not actually, just angry/extreme emotional words), but they always want to come back to their kid(s) again. She was prepared/ready and she was (mostly I hope) happy raising him but all of a sudden he was gone.. 😢

For those who wonder where the biological father is (the red shirt guy @ 4:17), the biological parents were divorced several years after the kidnap. The father wanted to put it behind and try for another kid, but the mother refuse to give up the search. It's definitely a tragic situation for the family. If it wasn't the kidnap, they probably would still be a happy family of three. That's why I strongly believe China really should increase the penalty for kidnapping and children trafficking.

When I lost my cat for a month, i couldn’t sleep, eat properly, always anxious and cry myself to sleep. When I found her it was the best day of my life. Now, imagine a mother losing her child for 32 years!!!! It must have been a million times if not infinitely worse! I can see her genuine happiness but also felt her resentments for not being able to raise her child. They were both robbed. But at least they got each other back. I’m really happy for both of them!

This is like my dream to be able to run into my moms arms. She passed away when I was 4, and my dad about 6 months later. I can whole heartedly understand what her son meant when he said he felt something was wrong (with the new caregivers not caring at all). Now as a parent myself I cannot look at my beloved daughter and not wonder how or why someone could not be caring for their child fiercely. The father is alive. The man at the reunion scene was him. He is very ecstatic too. If you watch the Chinese news, you will know they divorced, because they could not stand the home without the son, and the father felt too guilty. But they remain friends.

A true mother who gave birth to her child should not be weak but hold and grasp onto hope no matter what when where why and sometimes how difficult life it is when looking for her lost son and finally her prayers has been answered and it touched my heart that if I was taken like that person who was maybe kidnapped or got lost by someone or by himself and suddenly after a few years of struggling to older age of not being able to recognize his own mother til there's proof that his mother still alive including her son is not harmed or hurt when they're separated til a few years passed to his independent adult age he's more likely to be alright now as I saw this video.

Reminds me of the case in india, mother lost both of her sons in one day: the oldest one was struck by a train and killed while the younger one was later lost somehow and ended up being adopted by a Australian family. 20 years later, the mother and the younger son reunite, truly emotional.

I'm so glad to see the son reciprocating the mother's love. I've seen videos of children finding out who the real parent is and then deciding to stay with the parent who raised them. I don't blame the children but it's like even when the lost child is found, the parent still lost the child. If this boy were raised by loving parents, it would probably have been the same. I'm sure all of the parents no matter how heartbroken wished the best for their children, that they were in safe hands well cared for. It's a parent's love. Kidnappers should totally get the death penalty or life imprisonment.

@@rachelcookie321 his mom took him to another state & married a man whose family owns the town. They have police, judges, business owners & the list goes on. They produced documentation saying that my son relinquished his rights & that is simply not true. By the time he was able to locate her, she had done all these things against my son. He went to several lawyers & the least they would accept for a retainer fee was $100,000.00. Because it takes lots of money to prove that a judge signed fraudulent paperwork! We just didn't have that kind of money!

This is scary, I'm from China and I remember when I was little my dad almost lost me twice and I was very lucky that I didn't get kidnapped because the worse could've happened... I was with my dad at a shopping mall and he put me down for a second and I moved away, fortunately an old lady saw me walking alone in the streets and picked me up, and my dad was able to get to me minutes later.

That woman is such an amazing person. I am so very happy she has found her kidnapped son and has helped reunite others with their lost/stolen children. I can't imagine the pain and stress of such an event. May they both live in love and peace for the rest of their lives. Enjoy you two. You deserve it. ❤❤❤❤

It's strange how others misfortune, even when you do not know them, and then their happiness can affect you so much, to the point that you yourself shed tears. I am so overjoyed that they are now reunited and can again be a family, but at the same time, feel so sorry for those who are still looking, and are yet still apart. I hope their prayers are answered one day soon.
