A sexual abuse survivor in China confronts her father and seeks justice | Witness Documentary

After eight years of silence, Li, who works in Ethiopia, is finally ready to confront her father for sexual abuse crimes he committed against her during her teenage years. Determined to seek justice before it's too late, she returns to China with her fiance to collect evidence and initiate legal proceedings against him.
Li finds strength from her partner and lawyer as she pursues justice but faces shame and resistance from relatives, including her mother. Can Li find closure and overcome the horrors of her past?

It is not a crime of a honest mother to tell her daughter to go ask her father for money to help for school, it is just that he mis-uses the respect, trust and loyalty to his daughter.

She could have done more but in this patriarchal society so full of appearance and shame, I am sure sexual assault and rape was and is not something people know how to handle. She wanted her mom to have done more but the mom did the best she could. When you are impoverished etc, you don’t have the self confidence to feel deserving , to fight, have strength etc Not making excuses but the mom didn’t grow up with these concepts, what to do etc. She did the best she could. You can tell she regrets it and is hurt by everything her child has gone through and did help in the investigation.

She is very strong girl. I feel sad for her but I admire her strength and courage after many years. Unfortunately sexual harassment is big problem in world including China and many women even don’t know what’s happening with them in work life and personal life. I feel so sad how a father can become such a monster. I hope in future she finds inner peace in her heart and live happy. This is a lesson for all women’s please don’t quite for those who abuse you or rape you or did anything to you. Rise your voice and let monsters in jails.

In the Bible there is rape and incest. The patriarchy that is encouraged by that culture and society when the Bible was written allows for abuse to occur. The Bible is used today for women to be submissive to men. Try reading the Bible.
