In every relationship, people need to use good sense and respect boundaries. A married couple is a unit. Yes, parents are part of the family, but the married son is no longer the child you had raised. Your adult son now has a partner, his wife. Be kind, caring, helpful and gracious to your daughter-in-law. Offer suggestions only if asked. Don't impose yourself or interfere in their lives just because once you called the shots. Don't take over and start running their home the way you did yours. It is a different phase now. Be sensible and accept it.

My first husband's mom was just like this mom, and the sad part was he let her have her way UNTIL I blew up and we ended up in an argument/fight. She told me to stop and I told her to shut up unless she wanted to fight too. She ran out of the house and never meddled openly again. We were married for 3 years and stayed close until he remarried in Feb, 2021 and his wife's insecurities about our longstanding friendship broke us up. She had nothing to be insecure about as I wasn't trying to get back with him (gawd no way would I), but because of the bond we shared. I get this mom's point as she didn't know what her role in his life was anymore so she tried to assert herself as the dominant person.

A mother will always be number one in every child's life weather married or not. The only mistake we women make is that we think when a man marries you,you are number one in your husband's life and that the man should hate the mother forgetting the fact a mother is a very important person in your husband's life . imagine when a husband dies the wife can not bury the husband without the relative to the husband or the parents of the deceased. Without the mother of your husband in this world you wouldn't be called Mrs.

At times husbands need to understand the fact and explain it to their mothers that both hold a different level of respect in their lives .Apparently the sad truth in some homes is that the wives are crushed in order to please their families who take undue advantage later

Tell me about it. I was upset when at a celebration at their home they place me their daughter in law to sit with the kids. Not feeling good to sit with the children I was annoyed - why? I spend 24/7 stay at home with my children without adults around and this is what I have to deal with? I said, "No, it isn't fine with me. I shouldn't be placed with children when I am with chldren 24/7 - 12 months out of each year and this is suppose to be vacation? I wound up sick with pneumonia because no one wanted to help me while my son was sick and they were having a barbecue outside and I could barely sleep or rest during that time. It got worse - my ex-husband was so obnoxious not wanting to go home and said, "this is my vacation and I'm going to take us to TN. I still was sick with pneumonia - and realized I could not stay married to this man who was verbally and physically abusive on top of not showing any compassion during my illness. What will happened if I continue to stay married and as I grow older I develop further illness and I can't depend on him? Big mistake being married to a selfish husband who didn't valued or respected me enough to help me the children or give me a break after staying at home to raise the children?

haah...and very sensible parents are told by the son to clear any issues with him pertaining to his wife, never to say a word to his wife! If parents love their child, they should NOT be a headache & let the child be free to live happily with their spouse! No one should interfere but be supportive!!! It is expected that a married couple grow together as one and leave their extended families so as to start their own!! Think the problem is when parents cant let go & the couple do not want to grow up ! My opinion.

I live with my mother in law. This is similar to what I have to deal with everyday. It’s like your not in your home anymore she takes over the house… telling me how I should feed her son instead of letting me do my thing…. She keeps nagging on me on every tiny detail I did wrong like not closing a drawer that that’s what doors and drawers are for?! I made her cry cause she put the sour cream lid in the trash bag. In her defense she said that I put trash in there that there wasn’t any before I was like “yes that’s the trash bag…”and she was like “no but there wasn’t any trash in there before!” I’m like “ well if I cook a plate of food and put it on top of an empty garbage can that still looks very bad it’s a trash can clean food doesn’t go there.” And then she started crying! She knew she was wrong… and imagine she does this to me everyday constantly she can’t handle one little logical fact of criticism. While I get criticized everyday for ANYTHING. 🙄I can’t even eat a donut from my table because I should use a plate to bite into a donut because 1 crumb fell on the table! It’s horrible!

Mine is the opposite. She stayed with us for several months and was messier than any kid known to humanity. She figured the dog would get it.
