I'm a Vietnamese American who grew up with the Catholic faith. And since I was brought up in a Vietnamese Catholic Community here in America, we were taught about the Sacraments and the Vietnamese language every Sunday until we reach Sophomore year of High School. We have to prove that we were worthy and ready to receive Confirmation at my parish. Of course there are some students who were forced to attend classes by their parents because of the culture. Sadly after years pass by, I'd say about 80% of my Confirmation class no longer attend Mass or even keep the faith. It's such a sad reality to witness. It made me realize that it's pointless to force people to learn about the faith if their heart does not desire God in the first place. Confirmation isn't just a transition from a teenager to an adult, it's a Sacrament in which our hearts is truly ready to carry out the message of Christ through the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit. I feel like the Vietnamese parents failed to realize that if their child doesn't really care about the faith, they're not ready to become disciples for the Catholic Church.

I think Confirmation is a wonderful sacrament and to our family it was a sign of becoming a soldier for Christ. In our community most children received it around the age of 10 if they were totally prepared otherwise they had to wait until they were spiritually ready.

I was confirmed in the fifth grade because that’s diocese policy but some dioceses wait until eighth grade or even later. I think that’s a mistake. Personally, I think it should be lowered to third grade everywhere. Meaning it should be done within a year of first communion.

I finnished my Confirmation as an adul, but Mother let me tell you if NOT in thier teens they will never do it. In my teens I was lapsed and didn't think of it but later on I did. I god Married in the Faith but only due to my Husband's being Confirmed. They must do this young and as a Catholic seeing what hapoens if not they never last inthe faith. I think You might be unknowingly misleading in this, In a risk if young sudden death they are at a loss of an important Sacrament this avoiding Purgatory. We have these Sacraments that should be completed. NO Catholic should see Purgatory at all if these are completed. Alot if young people are dieing from violence these days so Confirm young!
