There is no excuse for what this student did, which was unacceptable and horrendous. However, more colleges and universities could do a lot more to support first-generation college students who come from at-risk, dysfunctional home environments. When at-risk students attend college, they have no idea what they're doing. They don't know how to relate to college, relate to professors and other college students. Christopher Jones, Jr., the shooter, hadn't been living with his parents since he was 16. His father, who was interviewed about the shooting, seemed apathetic. His father even trivialized his son's cries for help before the shooting occurred. It takes a lot for children to come to their parents for help, and Christopher told his father that he was being bullied by other students and he felt paranoid. All signs point to a home that was completely unsupportive and dysfunctional. Christopher basically had no parents. He was living with his grandmother prior to going to college, which is typical in at-risk communities. I was an educator in predominately black schools for many years. Witnessing the rampant dysfunction in many of today's families, It is only by God's grace that more students don't go this way. There are far too many people without values and standards. People are not having kids (on purpose). They are not living right and respecting the difference between right and wrong. Students are outrageously disrespectful towards teachers and other students in many of today's schools, from elementary school and beyond. Adults don't want to act mature anymore and do grown-up things, like get married, PLAN for a family, and set expectations and goals for themselves and their kids. People are making poor choices and children today are showing us (in their behavior) the outcome of a degenerate society.

I'd like to speak directly to today's parents. WHERE ARE YOU??? There are far too many absentee parents. Even parents living with their kids are not available and present for their kids. We need to start putting these parents in prison, right alongside their raging kids. If you don't want to deal with your kids, outside of prison, then maybe you'll want to finally deal with your kids in a jail cell! These lousy, good-for-nothing parents, who are just getting knocked up, leaving their kids with grandparents, are ghetto and ratchet. America desperately needs HIGHER-QUALITY PARENTS. Colleges and universities could also do a lot more to support first-generation college students who come from these at-risk, dysfunctional home environments. RAISE YOUR KIDS!!!! BE A RESPONSIBLE PARENT. This isn't fair to unleash raging, angry, and unsupportive kids onto everyone else in this world. If you don't want to raise kids and you're not financially capable of even taking care of yourself, then please USE PROTECTION and BIRTH CONTROL. Practice abstinence, since you should be focusing on continuing your education in college, networking with other professionals in your field, acquiring marketable skills, and getting a CAREER that pays above minimum wage. There should be NO TIME for having sex anyway, with a busy schedule. Then GET MARRIED and PLAN for a family, so that it isn't a "surprise" and you're well prepared for your kid to come into the world. Set goals and establish PRIORITIES!!!

This is another atrocity where young people have been massacred. Did the shooter have this gun on the bus? Did he take it into the performance venue? Are there no measures in place to prevent something like this? The shooter had a police record and NO ONE SAID ANYTHING??? HOW was the shooter permitted to register for classes? When you are a student at UVa a HOLD is placed on your account for something as minor as a data point missing on your health insurance or if you have even a tiny balance on your financial record!!! Yet this shooter who left the scene of an accident (Hit and Run) and who had gun charges on his record was permitted to live with and attend classes with innocent students. THREE DEAD KIDS with everything to look forward to have been sacrificed to a failed system. UVa did NOT act when they should have for reasons unknown. There is a lapse of 'transparency' and parents must understand that it's open season on young people.

@@clashon4life843, and because your mind is so, "Narrow-minded" you will never understand. If it is hard for a Christian, what do you think it is for the world? And you fool yourself if you think otherwise. @eileencastillo63232 жыл бұрын
Besides being way too little and too late, that is just plain wrong advice. Bullies are cowards who choose easy targets. They do not choose targets that are not going to take any crap from them. Duhhhh Think about your own friends or family or coworkers. You can name yourself which people aren't going to put up with a bully's BS and which ones are going to avoid confrontation. A bully recognizes that faster than you do. Most of the time targets take their own lives. Why should anyone change who they are to accommodate a bully?? The bully's behavior needs to change, not the target's. The bully has psychological issues of inferiority. I would not know how to eliminate bullies and their psychological issues that wound their targets SO severely that they take their own lives and the lives of others. I do know that the profound injustice and audacity of blaming the target, only isolates them ever further, compounds and accelerates the disasterous outcome of bullying situations. Silent witnesses who do and say nothing to the bully (guess why) and then proceed to actually turn on the target like you have, are contributers to outcomes like this. What happens when witnesses defend a target and stand up to a bully? Maybe you should find that out.

They protected their money makers. Their quote unquote star athletes. This is nothing new. This young man was interested in things like runway modeling that would make some insecure heterosexual young men question his sexual preference. I’m sure that this will eventually tie into this court case. The hazing, continued harassment with no justifiable resolve even after going through the proper channels is outrageous. Then the audacity of the media to broadcast his criminal record even after he has satisfied the courts. He was released back into civilian population and was accepted into the university after the background check was verified. The young lady is only expressing her personal experience with these guys that lost their lives. However behind closed doors and out of the spotlight they became a nightmare for this young man. Plainly put they pushed him over the edge. This goes to show you how people can fool many and fake it all the way to the top until they meet someone who can see through their facade. This is very sad all around that four families are forever changed. Furthermore my prayer is that we began to improve our social construct in the upcoming generations. If we don’t soon you will indeed begin to see an increase of these types of tragedies.
