Not just the correct method, but also the right type. There are certain fire extinguishers for different types of fire. The las guy finally had the right one.

Let this be a lesson to you kids. Pull the pin, aim at the base of the fire not the pretty flames, squeeze the trigger, sweep side to side, and most importantly don't stop until the damn extinguisher is empty. That was the mistake all 3 times they stopped putting extinguishing agent (CO2, and dry chem) on the fire before the extinguisher was empty, and with the fuels being above ignition point they allowed oxygen back in and the fire reignites instantly. So lesson to learn if you're going to use an extinguisher on a fire EMPTY IT!

I opened this because a towel in my bathroom caught on FIRE - quick flames -- lots of smoke, scared the hell out of me. I threw it in the toilet, poured water on it....no more keeping matches around the house. I'm throwing them all out.

This is an example of exactly what NOT to do if you see a dryer fire. DO NOT open the door. Call the Fire Department and get everyone the hell out of the building.

Almost staggering levels of incompetent cluelessness whenever any average person has to deal with a fire of any kind. Hint: in order to put the fire out, you may actually have to be closer than one country away from it before activating the extinguisher. They're approaching it as if it's going to detonate like a bomb or something. It's just clothes on fire ffs.

The extinguishing process would be easier if the machine manufacturers add a hole in front of panel for emergency fire suppressant injection. Not so much modification to original design, just add an extra pipeline into the drum with a red pull-off or break-glass cover on the panel. Hook up a safety switch that'll bring the whole machine to an emergency stop if the cover is removed or smashed. When a fire occurs, break the panel, stuck the nozzle of an extinguisher into the hole and spray. Less risk of boosting the combustion than opening the door.

In a case like this wouldn’t it be better to keep the door of the dryer closed, while getting the fire extinguisher. Close the door with the fire extinguisher was not working. Thank goodness no one was hurt

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Guess when you're panicking, that whole thing about closing off fuel for the fire goes out of some people's head. Like stove fires? Just lid it, don't pour water on a fat fire, FFS. But hey, we're here, not there.
