They are beyond amazing! They’re performing at the Grammys this year and they’re nominated as well. Please reconsider doing a new song off of their new album, specifically Kiss From a Rose (lol it’s on their Christmas album, but obviously it’s not christmassy). Also O holy night! Yes Pentatonix was in Candy Cane Lane, at the end of the movie you see them in real life. Scott, the tall blonde is the baritone, but he has an incredible range and covers the bass when the bass sings the solo, Mitch the dark haired guy with a high voice of an angle, Kirstie Maldonado, Kevin is the amazing beat boxer and Matt Salle is their incredible bass singer…. Just wait till you watch Kiss From a Rose (PLEASE REACT TO THE LIVE VEVO VIDEO) and see what they ALL can do.

Just so you know they’re performing in the pre show that isn’t going to be aired but will be live-streamed on the Grammy KZbin channel. That’s also when their category will be announced. Unfortunately, they’re not going to be on the main show.

Not doing Hallelujah is doing yourself a disservice. It’s their most popular song with over 700 million views. Choose what you wish next but please do it sometime. And this is coming from someone who is very tired of Hallelujah but I’m also aware of how good it is and why it’s so many peoples favorite. Kiss from a rose will blow you away too. It’s also recorded live.

There are a number of mentions for their appearance in Candy Cane Lane. But nobody seems to mention that the original trio (Mitch, Kirsten, and Scott) made an appearance in an episode of Bones called The Strike In The Chord which was the 16th episode of season 11. They're the three in the middle here. They also grew up together.

I saw their concert in Orlando on December 8. They are simply stunning live! I was in the eighth row on the floor in front of the stage. They moved to a second stage in the middle of the concert venue and performed a more intimate series of songs. They did pure imagination and Christmas Time medley, as well as some other of their Christmas albums. They truly took the roof off of the arena!

Try one of their evolution videos. The Evolution of Music, perhaps. 1st Singer, Scott Hoying Baritone/Bass. 2nd Singer Mitch Grassi Tenor, 3rd Singer Matt Sallee Bass, 4th Singer Kirsten Moldonado Alto, Beat Box and Percussion Kevin Olusola. Their arrangements usually feature each of them picking up different parts of the song. It is difficult to label their voices, because they all have great range. Their current release Kiss from a Rose has an arrangement featuring Keving Olusola on cello. Kevin plays cello while beat boxing he also has a great voice. They are all exceptional performers as you will see as you experience their music. Welcome to the rabbit hole. One member change Matt Sallee for Avi Kaplan

Pentatonix a "brief" background. They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America′s Got Talent as non−competitors a couple of years after that. The founding members are:- Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five−to−six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead); Kirstin "Kirstie" (Rhymes with "Thirsty") Maldonado (the only female member, natural mezzo soprano, but can go down to low alto and as high as upper soprano, also can sing in whistle notes that are off the scale); For a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”. Mitch Grassi (a true contra−tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease); Avriel "Avi" Kaplan (dark beard and long hair) -NOT in this video, true basso profundo, trained as an opera singer, also can go up into the tenor range; and Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also is a world−class cellist who plays cello on some of their songs, has a beautiful high tenor voice and gets occasional lead vocal solos as well, graduated pre−med from Yale and speaks several languages including Mandarin Chinese). Kirstie, Scott & Mitch grew up together in Arlington, Texas, and began performing together as children in local youth musical theater. They ended up in high school together and performed in the choir. While there, they formed an a cappella group called The Trio which had several performance videos go viral on KZbin, most notably a cover of Lady Gaga′s "Telephone". The three of them are best friends and consider themselves to be almost siblings. Scott & Kirstie (who were a class year ahead of Mitch) both graduated high school in 2010 and went their separate ways to different colleges, Scott at USC and Kirstie at Oklahoma. While at USC, Scott joined a USC−based a cappella group called the SoCal VoCals, where he met alumnus Ben Bram, who was now an arranger and vocal coach for the NBC TV show The Sing Off, an a cappella competition show. Ben convinced Scott to get The Trio to audition for the show. The three reunited (Mitch had to skip high school graduation ceremonies to go) in Los Angeles for the audition. They found out that the rules had changed, so they needed at least five members to audition. Ben put them together with Avi (a native of Visalia, California), who he knew from Avi′s performing days at Mount San Antonio College in California. They found Kevin (from Kentucky) through one of his KZbin videos that had gone viral featuring him playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time, a talent that Kevin coined as "Cello−Boxing". Kevin arrived in Los Angeles literally the day before the audition! Scott came up with the name "Pentatonix" after the pentatonic scale. They performed a re−arrangement of "The Telephone" for the audition and passed, despite having been together as a five−piece group for less that 24 hours! They won The Sing Off that season (all of the performances are available on KZbin), in which they received a substantial cash prize AND a record contract with Epic Records. They pooled their prize winnings together and all moved to Los Angeles, and all got apartments right next door to each other in the same building. But just a week later, Epic dropped them because the marketing people didn′t think an a cappella group could sell records. Instead of giving up, they were determined and began recording their own songs on KZbin, hiring Ben Bram as their producer and arranger. These usually consisted of the five of them sitting on a couch and performing cover songs live. Several of the videos went viral, and Sony (the parent company of Epic) decided to give them another chance by placing them on one of their smaller labels, Madison Gate. They released two secular EPs and one Christmas EP on Madison Gate, all of which were strong sellers. But when their cover of a medley of songs by Daft Punk not only went super−viral, but also won them their first Grammy, they were promoted all the way up to RCA Records, Sony′s top label. They began writing and producing their own songs in addition to their covers, began putting out a Christmas album just about annually (which has become their best−selling genre), and have had multi−platinum album sales, sold−out world tours, and have won two additional Grammys. Avi began getting burned out with all of the touring and heavy recording schedule, was suffering from anxiety and personal problems, and learned that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer in 2017. He announced he was departing from the group and taking some time away from the music industry. Matt Sallee (from Baltimore) joined them in September 2017. He did only become official when they renewed their RCA contract in February 2018, but he recorded with them in September as a featured artist and went on their Christmas tour as a featured artist, as well. When he attended the audition for the group, he had already mastered the Bass part for most if not all their past catalogue. He was successful and has proved that he fits in well with the group. If you think there have been other changes to the line up - look again. This is the ONLY change. Kirstie and Mitch are like chameleons and change looks frequently. It is an often debated subject among the Pentaholics as to just how soon we introduce the "Beginners Guide" as we don't want to overdo the introduction. This is a compilation of snips of a whole load of songs which PTX have released. It highlights each member with some of their solos and then a brief history in video. It is quite long - 14+ minutes and is a little dated now (Feb 2020) but is a good watch kzbin.info/www/bejne/onXbepmtm6igh6c&pp=ygUdYmVnaW5uZXJzIGd1aWRlIHRvIHBlbnRhdG9uaXg%3D. After a year away from music, Avi has now returned as a phenomenal solo artist in the Folk/Americana/Roots genre. Ben Bram has been in charge of their production, including arranging and directing from the beginning. He is often referred to as the sixth member. Scott and Kevin are major players in the arrangements, but every member contributes. A good watch is "The Recording of Evergreen" where a camera was invited into the studio for the second week of recording/ Also, all members are songwriters for both Pentatonix and their own solo work. Ed Boyer who mixes everything of theirs (even the HWB Livestream) is the one who pulled Ben Bram into the sing off in the first place. They have Grammy wins for Daft Punk Medley, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Jolene featuring Dolly Parton. They were nominated for a 4th Grammy for their album Evergreen, but didn't win. Another nomination for Holidays Around the World album in the 2024 list! Kirstie became a new mum which caused a pause in touring after their Evergreen Christmas tour 2021. Mid March 2023 Kirstie has announced that she is engaged to Ben Hausdorff, their videographer. No dates YET! They have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame installed in February 2023. They are the only a capella group with a star! They came 3rd in the 2023 Masked Singer performing as "California Rolls" being unmasked in May 23. Things you need to know because if you get these wrong Pentaholics will come after you with pitch forks and torches! Ha Ha!! 1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good. One exception is the 90's Dance Medley where Cher used autotune as an effect - so they had to. 2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the official video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen. In the 2022 Christmas album, there are some instruments not featured throughout the album. 3- They never release something on video they can’t reproduce with the exact same quality live on-stage. 4. It is "Pentatonix" there is no "The".

Also, their bass singer, Geoff Castellucci, has a solo cover of Sound of Silence where he sings all the parts. It is insanely good! He has a 5 octave range... Who's who? Here you go. In this song: • First verse, tall blond guy: Scott Hoying, lyric baritone. Scott's range extends from about midway through a normal bass range to a fairly high tenor, probably about 5 or 6 octaves. In live performances, when the bass has a solo Scott can and does take over the bass harmony and rhythm lines. • Second verse, dark haired guy next to Scott: Mitch Grassi (pronounced Grah'-see, emphasis on the first syllable), natural contratenor. Mitch has a range of just over 6 octaves, but he's most comfortable in his higher registers. He switches between chest voice, mixed voice, and head voice seamlessly, and is known for his ethereal high solos. Everyone in Pentatonix says he has the best voice of any of them. • Third verse, black guy in a white jacket on the far left: Matt Sallee (pronounced Suh-lee', emphasis on the second syllable), lyric bass. I'll have more to say about Matt later, after I talk about Avi. • Fourth verse, the only woman in Pentatonix: Kirstin (also called Kirstie, which rhymes with thirsty) Maldonado. Kirstin sings anywhere from a low alto (though not contralto, which is the female equivalent of baritone) through coloratura soprano, the highest female range. And she has whistle notes on top of that which are off the charts. Lately Pentatonix has begun describing her as an "alto soprano." • The fifth member of Pentatonix is the black guy on the right: Kevin Olusola (pronounced Oh-loosh"-oh-luh', primary emphasis on the second syllable, secondary emphasis on the fourth syllable), beatboxer extraordinaire. Kevin is generally too busy being the entire percussion section to sing, but when he does sing he has a lovely tenor voice that occasionally dips into the uppermost reaches of baritone. He's also a pretty good rapper. Kevin has perfect pitch. He began piano lessons at age 4, cello at age 6, and alto saxophone at age 10. He beatboxes while playing the cello, a technique he calls "celloboxing." He performed at Carnegie Hall twice when he was a teenager, once on saxophone and once on cello. He graduated from Yale in 2011 with a pre-med major and had been accepted to Yale Medical School before he decided to become a professional beatboxer instead of a brilliant surgeon. He speaks five languages fluently: English, French, Spanish, German, and Mandarin Chinese. He's one of the kindest people in the world, and when he laughs he makes the whole planet seem like a brighter place. Matt joined Pentatonix in late 2017 or early 2018 (depending on how you figure it), after their original bass left the group for personal reasons in 2017. Which brings us to the one member of Pentatonix who doesn't appear in this video: • Bearded white guy who usually wore a beanie or stocking cap: Avi (pronounced Ah'-vee, emphasis on the first syllable) Kaplan, lyric bass. Avi is an operatically trained basso profundo - his lowest notes have blown out speakers in live performances - but his range extends upward to about the middle of the tenor range. Since leaving Pentatonix Avi has gone on to have an extremely successful solo career; you can find his KZbin channel here: youtube.com/@AviKaplanMusic I highly recommend subscribing. I checked, and the other Pentatonix songs you reacted to were "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Mary Did You Know," both good choices. But that means you haven't reacted to "Hallelujah," and I'm going to suggest that you listen to TWO recordings of it: First, the official video, where Avi solos on the second verse, and then a recent live stream, with Matt: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKLTmZuGltWepcUsi=tC6Ew07JGeQKQvDL It's hard to be sure just what Matt's range is, because it's still growing, but Matt's arrangement of the second verse of "Hallelujah" seems to be designed to show off his full range, and it will blow you away. I've heard that his current lowest note is A1, which is technically basso profundo though not blowing-out-speakers low, but on the high end he comes close to the top of a normal tenor range. I believe that Matt has the largest range of any member of Pentatonix, past or present, and it's still growing. He may yet be blowing out speakers in another year or two, if that's the direction he chooses to go. If not, he may shortly be able to sing higher than Scott. The appearance of Mitch and Kirstin tends to vary greatly from one video to another, so people will frequently think they see someone new in Pentatonix when it's really Kirstin or Mitch. With these two, go by their voices, not their appearance; their voices don't lie. To be clear: Avi is the ONLY member who's left Pentatonix and Matt is the ONLY member who joined later. Pentatonix publishes all their songs on KZbin, even when they're selling them on an album. You can find their channel here: youtube.com/@PTXofficial When searching KZbin for a specific Pentatonix song you can abbreviate "Pentatonix" as "PTX"; it makes searching easier. Pentatonix does occasionally use instruments - once in a while Scott will play a piano and/or Kevin will accompany them on one of his cellos. Also, they've done quite a few collaborations with instrumentalists; I believe that every song on their 2022 Christmas album, "Holidays Around the World," had instrumental backing, and because it was recorded at a time when COVID travel restrictions were in place the instrumentalists don't appear in any of the videos from that album. But EXCEPT for songs from "Holidays Around the World," if there's an instrument being played you will see it in the video. None of the Pentatonix songs you've reacted to used any instruments.

Scott Hoying the tall blonde is the Baritone, Mitch Grassi the second singer is a Counter Tenor. Matt Sallee the third singer is the Bass, he took over after Avi Kaplin left the group in 2017. Kirsten Maldonado is the Mezzo Soprano. And then their is Kevin Olusola beat boxer extraordinaire. Kirsten, Mitch and Scott grew up together in Arlington Texas. When they wanted to be on the american show the Sing Off they needed a Bass and a beat boxer, they found Avi through a friend, they found Kevin on You Tube doing his Cello Boxing which he invented. At the time he couldn't join them because he was studying for his Pre-Med degree at Yale, which he did pass. Kevin also speaks Fluent Mandarin from his studies in China. These 5 people to me are the most talented people on the planet as far as A Capella goes. I have seen them twice in concert they are incredible and sound exactly the same.
@Badger77722
@Badger77722 10 ай бұрын
Since your first reactions were to Mary Did You Know and Bohemian Rhapsody, this is your first reaction to the "new" lineup of Pentatonix. The gentleman on the left in the white jacket (3rd solo singer) is Matt Sallee, who is the "new" base singer for the group. In the earlier videos you saw, the bass singer was Avi Kaplan, an original member who left the band amicably in 2017 due personal reasons (his mother was sick, they were touring constantly so he had trouble spending time with her, and he needed more time to "recharge" than their touring schedule allowed). This video was a very good introduction to Matt's voice, since as the bass he doesn't get as much chance to sing solo as the other main singers do. As for recommendations: well, Kiss From a Rose (the live VEVO version) is an amazing video, and I think it will surprise you in several places. I'd also suggest The Prayer, which is a showpiece for Mitch and Scott (2nd solo, 1st and final solo singers here), My Favorite Things (from The Sound of Music) is a Kirstie lead, as well as Say Something (another Kirstie lead). For fun videos, try Come Along, Attention, or Havana.

Welcome back to PTX, you have missed a lot…and been missed! With a cover catalog of over 200 songs, a Christmas catalog over 200 songs, and a growing catalog of originals…not to mention each members solo +/or side projects…you’ll be busy for a while. Better get busy!!!!!

You should watch Daft Punk, and please do Hallelujah. We who watch reactors know the songs by heart, and we watch people do these favorites to see what _you_ bring to the experience, because it's different everytime. Another touchstone is Aha! The official video, then the live fan vid of it from an extraordinary performance at the Star Vista in Singapore.

I'm not sure that the 2 of you can handle Kiss from a rose by PTX. I've seen reactors who are more used to them cry, fall out of their chair, clutch their chests, jump up, and swear. It's powerful. Ease into it.

For everything you wanted to know about PTX see this link en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentatonix . You may have watched or heard Hallelujah a 1000 times, but believe me when I tell you that you haven't heard it until you listen to PTX sing it - over 744 million views.

Great reaction! They are indeed beyond wonderful. You would like Amazing Grace, The Prayer, Daft Punk medley, Perfect, I Just Called to Say I Love You, Shallow, Say Something, Kiss From A Rose ( live VEVO performance) original songs Sing, Love Again, Happy Now, Run to You. And O Holy Night is a masterpiece and you need to hear it before next Christmas. ❤❤❤❤❤

I think that you’ve found a musical style that you like apart from the likes of Allie and Angelina (who are both amazing artists! However there are also two other Acapella groups who you should perhaps consider, VoicePlay and Home Free they both have amazing singers who perform as well as Pentatonix if not better. There are no particular songs of theirs I would recommend because anything that they perform will interest you both 🌹🌹

An excellent rendition of this classic Simon and Garfunkel song, but in my opinion the truly DEFINITIVE rendition is this one by David Draiman of Disturbed. After you hear it I'm sure you'll agree. The accompanying video is also incredibly impressive. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q2qnmGCdbNllopY

I prefer the Disturbed original cover(sic). Please take a look at their live version from The Conan Show kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJyag4mtaK5rm8k). They covered the original by Simon and Garfunkel and Paul Simon congratulated them on their version. The group is a heavy metal group who did a total makeover for this song. David Dramen is the lead singer who was trained as a Cantor and on the night was ill but still knocked it out of the park. Disturbed version inspired Pentatonix to do this version.
